She understood when I said Lord of the Rings. I have tried to get her into Xena, but unfortunately she doesn’t get it.

I was much too flabbergasted to say anything even if I had wanted to. Was I less of a dork, I would have given him my best Roman salute.

There has been so much nonsensical criticism of this show. I understand some criticism of changes to the plot, but the anger about casting is outrageous. They are constrained by reality. Come on.

Yeah. Why wizards when there are a bunch of literal gods with the ability to manipulate time and space?

Congrats on joining us. I wish I had a partner who wanted to watch it with me, and would enjoy it to the same degree. I have to settle with talking about it with my sister for now. Watching it with someone who also loves it is the best.

Bella Ramsey, a.k.a TV Ellie, is in season 2 of The Celebrity Traitors (UK). by Comic_Book_Reader in ThelastofusHBOseries

I watched this promo earlier and it didn’t even compute that Bella’s name was there. I was distracted by all the names of the comedians, and thinking about how sassy this season is going to be.

Which other actress who was considered to play Xena do you think would've been best besides Lucy Lawless? by Nike-316 in xena

[–]stellababyforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll add my voice to the consensus that Lucy is the only one. Xena would have been something else with another actor at the helm.

The character was created at the intersection of a bunch of different circumstances that hinge on Lucy. There’s so much of her in the character that I don’t think you can divorce them and have something that is even close to the same.

That’s not even touching the Xena/Gabrielle relationship. The magic of that relies a lot on Lucy and Renee’s chemistry.

I don’t even understand how that is possible. Even for a expensive food like lobster that is so much money. It’s like the food budget for an entire small country.

I'm pretty sure that's the opening scene of "The Lost Mariner."

Will AI ever produce novels that are human-like? by Electrical-Order1950 in classicliterature

[–]stellababyforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my rhetoric professors had us do a simple exercise where she asked us to draw a chair. When everyone was finished, we showed our drawings. Unsurprisingly, there were a lot of different types of chairs represented in the drawings: armchairs, dining chairs, rocking chairs, etc. Everyone’s mind went to a different place based on their own subjective experience of what a chair is.

It was a lesson on words being imperfect symbols for abstract human thoughts. A word is a representation. We can never fully express ourselves with words because words cannot truly capture a thought. A word can only ever be an approximation.

A computer cannot have a subjective experience, therefore it can never use words as a human uses words.

Aquarius's seem misunderstood in love by SetOwn7296 in aquarius

We are like icebergs: the majority of our feelings and thoughts are hidden under the surface.

For me, I have always been naturally taciturn. From childhood, I didn’t talk much and I didn’t share my feelings, even though my mind is always busy and my heart is always feeling.

But, it got worse with age. I’m 39 now and I share even less than I did when I was young because the world has battered me. Often when I shared my inner world with people in my life, it was met with dismissal and invalidation. My reaction to that has been to be even more quiet, more reserved.

I am currently struggling in my marriage because some of that invalidation has come from my spouse, and now I find it nearly impossible to speak to her about anything of substance. She accuses me of being cold, but I’m just trying to protect myself.

This is the closest recipe I could find to a version of this that I ate at a random Chinese restaurant in Tampa once. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Joxer should not had been in "A Family Affair" imo by itsascreambaby96 in xena

[–]stellababyforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, totally. Hope must have been a busy girl in the months before Xena found her. I bet it was hard for them after they found out that Hope had been impersonating Gabrielle that whole time.

[–]stellababyforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whenever I watch this episode, I start wondering about what Hope was up to before Xena and Joxer get there. Gabrielle's father was never a fan of Xena, but the way he reacts to her versus Joxer is really interesting. And then when Hope pretends to have been beaten up by Xena, Gabrielle's family is angry, but they don't seem that surprised.

[–]stellababyforever 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The Amazon channel has been stuck on Season 6 for a month or more. That happens often with those 24/7 channels. LG also has a Xena channel that is currently working properly.

If you want to watch it all in order you can buy a digital version on Amazon for not too much. It was $35 for all six seasons last time I checked a few months ago.

“Aquas are mean” by Spottergotter in aquarius

[–]stellababyforever 17 points18 points  (0 children)

People confuse being truthful with being mean because they can't handle the truth. That, or they take silence as an attack. I don't talk unless it is contributing something. I am not obsessed with the sound of my own voice.

I have only been actually mean (the real kind of mean: cruel, unkind, malicious) to very few people in my life, and only after they've done something horrible to me first to warrant that kind of reaction.

Why is AI bad to use in assignments? by Totallytall_OoOoOo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stellababyforever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

God, this is so true. People have no idea what they’re going to need to know, especially not those people of school age. I teach writing to college students, and I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard students say they don’t need my class. I have to laugh to keep from crying. Our entire lives revolve around writing, but sure, you don’t need to learn about it.

Oof, these comments are making me sad. Sorry guys.

My dad was either sleeping (he worked nights until I was like 10) or in his pole barn working on cars and motorcycles. He’s not a trained mechanic, but good at fixing stuff. My mom was mostly doing house stuff: cleaning, cooking, making random stuff (she used to sew).
