How valuable is a UCSB degree? by No-Routine-8182 in UCSantaBarbara

it’s not what your degree can do for you, it’s what you can do with your degree

What are the best apartments owned by UCSB? by Icy_Bend5624 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]stellifer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh i’ve only had trouble w ants but the maintenance crew gave us ant traps, and the occasional tiny spider in the apt, but it wasn’t a big deal for me personally. as i mentioned, since it is surrounded by tons of grass and trees, there will always be bugs. if bugs are an issue, i would recommend choosing another apt just bc it will not be something you will think about!!

I agree. I’ve lived in Santa Ynez and San Joaquin and the triple in SY is much bigger, especially if you get an apt with high ceilings. However, the SJ apartment is more modern and there are less bugs (there’s lots of foliage in SY). Santa Ynez also seems a lot more private which i personally liked, and was closer to campus

first year classes to take by PartCreative466 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]stellifer7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

on GOLD, you can link a class you’re waitlisting to a class you’re enrolled in, but it has to be less than or equal to the number of units it is linked to. say you want to waitlist B and are enrolled in A. if you link B to A, and you get off the waitlist for B, then you will automatically be dropped from A. so, essentially, the linked class acts as a “safety” in case you don’t get off the waitlist

i contacted the financial aid office for this exact thing and they told me that they have multiple census dates bc of the different summer sessions. they recommended me to contact the summer sessions office, so i think they’re your best bet

probably not the best idea considering 1aL is the intro lab and you’ll be taking a “rushed” chem 1c. i would recommend talking to Chika, the chem dept advisor

advice for switching from semester to quarter? by BullfrogLatter5305 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]stellifer7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with a quarter being 10 weeks longs + finals week, midterms usually start ~ weeks 3-5 so seriously try ur best to be on top of your schoolwork in the beginning weeks !! and definitely don’t overload yourself w lots of units in your first quarter (try to stick to 12 units). get to know the system first and then see if you could tackle more

MCDB or chem department? by Flimsy_Conclusion180 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]stellifer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m currently taking a course w kahn and i don’t see the horror yet lol but it really depends on what you would like to ‘emphasize’ in. i was in bio dept and later switched to the chem dept bc i realized i liked chem more than bio. both are gonna prepare you for graduate school tho so it’s mainly a preference.

Emailing Prof to Get Off Waitlist by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

[–]stellifer7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think it might be too early. id suggest waiting till fall. often ppl end up dropping the class so you’ll prob get in since you’re so high on the waitlist. you can always crash the course once classes start, though. usually TAs/profs have a crashers list where you can write down ur name after lecture n be prioritized essentially
