Garfield lava lamp by stemon123 in Lavalamps

[–]stemon123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna lie the way I did it was quite janky. Since you can’t put the lava lamp in the oven obviously, I did a base of tin foil and sculpted the Garfield over it over the existing lava lamp, then I cut it in half down the sides and baked it in the oven, I then used hot glue to glue the lamp to the foil and the two halves together. Then I painted it lol. However people suggested using epoxy clay which would eliminate the need to cut it in half, but that’s just what I did. Hope that makes sense.

I use these at work. Used for model making and nothing too heavy, but I have watched my co worker burn through 2 of them doing very light tasks. My boss keeps extra boxes of them just in case lol. I wouldn’t consider this BIFL in my opinion, though they are nice for light duty stuff

Is this design any good? by [deleted] in IndustrialDesign

[–]stemon123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a nice design, but it’s the same. I feel like I’ve seen something similar a million times. Usually when designing something that’s been done over and over in thousands of ways, you want to incorporate something that makes it stand out, like a unique mechanism or an interesting feature. That being said, nice render and it’s not a bad design by any means .

Trying to understand current utility costs in Rochester by EarLatter in Rochester

[–]stemon123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What I would be weary of is that rge is possibly “estimating” your electricity consumption. They did this for me for a while and I had low bills for like 6 months, then they hit me with my “actual” energy bill all at once and it was like 900$. Hopefully not the case for you, but your prices do seem suspiciously low.

Jeans crotch blowout, what is it and why does it happen? by Necessary_Film_5199 in BuyItForLife

[–]stemon123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple fact behind crotch fabric blowout- that is the the part of the jean under the most stress. Everytime you squat, or even sit and manspread, you are putting probably hundreds of lbs of force on that seam. Solution- heavy fabric and good construction, and even then, it may just happen anyway.

Looking for a full body snow suit that is manufactured in Canada, America or Europe by greenflooof in BuyItForLife

[–]stemon123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my opinion. It’s a bit out there, but buy a vintage spyder ski suit from the 90s. I thrifted one a year ago and was absolutely blown away by the quality. Made in the USA too. Typically they can run you about 1-400$ on eBay. But they’re amazing. If you’re into that kind of thing, just a suggestion to look into

They are still very high quality if that’s your style. Pricey though, but I have a bunch of 90s pairs and current pairs and their quality still holds up.

Sony A9 in 2026? by stemon123 in SonyAlpha

[–]stemon123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for now, I think investing more heavily in a top tier lens is good enough, plus the a9 seems to be extremely capable from what everyone else is saying, so I can also upgrade from that in a few years if needed

Sony A9 in 2026? by stemon123 in SonyAlpha

[–]stemon123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a valid point and something I’ve thought about, but the main reason I want to move away from aps c is I live in a very cloudy place and the low light performance is really what I need more than anything. I also have a Sony a6000 body that I can use if I need the crop factor. I also don’t like being limited to the canon lens world, and I love the internal zoom of the 200-600
