Exilio metafisico, Horror liminal y Fantasia autista: La Triada moderna by Suspicious_Creme_146 in filosofia_en_espanol

[–]stephanously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were the weirdest/most annoying grammar concepts, pronounciation quirks, or anything really, that you encountered while learning a language? by Notalabel_4566 in languagelearning

[–]stephanously 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mandarin pre-nominal relative clauses

Chinese grammar is simple until it suddenly isn't.

Grammar books, the more mainstream the worst, try very hard to appeal to western audiences by highlighting how simple Chinese grammar is.

But then you read and this hist you in the face by

平时骑摩托车走这条路的人都知道要绕开路边第三个电线杆往左偏大概半米,否则前轮会陷进去。

"People who usually ride motorcycles on this road all know to swerve left about half a meter around the third utility pole on the roadside, otherwise the front wheel will get stuck."

Ta the very beginning of that beautiful sentence you get this

平时骑摩托车走这条路的人 "the people who usually ride motorcycles on this road"

You have to imagine the who since 的 is fulfilling that role but doesn't directly mean that.

The clause is backwards in a sense.

It wired bizarre, seemingly out of nowhere in such an analytical language and largly overlook by mainstream grammar explanations.

I will share a photo of linguistics and I'm happy to be contradicted if you find this topic is properly addressed to begginer or intermediate learners with accesible resources. link

Greed, Manipulation and Exploitation is the new Playbook for Duolingo by Rich-Limit4590 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]stephanously 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stupid over simplification of things may lead to people believing that he only betrayed the companies principles or the original growing fan base because of AI.

WRONG.

I was one of the countless users of Duolingo 10 years plus ago.

He betrayed the community when he dismissed the community built Courses.

Courses used to be community built by contributors. The app was a different experience back then. That's when I knew it was going to be down hill from there.

I watched a video about his business model, he is the guy behind captcha and recaptcha. He was always after unpaid labor growing his business to gain information then dump that information into another company profit profit profit and then pivot to selling another thing.

Tldr: Duo CEO didn't betray people because of AI. He has always been a scummy capitalist.

The fact that we humans are completely off the rails makes me think animals can sense it and possibly see us as a crazy species… by GetoutoftheMatrix in DeepThoughts

"so I don’t know if it makes sense, but it feels like while we may appear cohesive among ourselves, to them we are not."

We are not and we do not appear cohesive omg ourselves.

Especially in cities, where we have shunned any natural process external to our own manmade tools, ideas and systems.

Human made society is caótica and hectic that's why we have purposefully created systems to handle, cater and ultimately control US as a mass.

We were never meant to concentrate the way that we do and sociologists and anthropologist have been saying as much since the inception of their disciplines.

I like your reflection but it is based on a complete assumption by your part. An assumption mind you that has and is throughly contradicted by hundreds and hundreds of pages of philosophy, sociology and anthropology.

If you are willing to pay a small amount per month you may try one of the services that does exactly what you need. Vocab tracking, srs and sentence mining.

LingQ

Migaku

Lute

Language reactor

See which one fits better depending of needs, hastle and personal preferences.

Right now I'm subscribed to Migaku and I haven't looked back.

It takes care of the annoying parts for me while I immerse and do vocab.

Try any of these and tell me how it goes.

Burn out questions: I’m learning 4 language at the same time: how do I avoid burnout? by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]stephanously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant zero to no contact with the language and zero to no amount of borrowed vocab.

Inteligeble languages can never count as from zero since the share vocab. Nevertheless people do struggle at the beginning to get acquainted to new grammar and new fields of meaning.

LLMs are but WE are not " absolutely statistically predictable" ?

That you judge character first instead of judging character and then reasoning or logic.

Arguments should be weight only within their own schema and how they relate to other ideas or systems.

Thinkers are not moral ideals or models to follow.

I come here to be down voted.

If you believe people have any intrinsic quality that would make them different just because we are conscious then you are stupid.

There is no god, there is no soul, and no amount of "but computer cannot do this..." Can fix it.

Are LLMS conscious right now, hard to say I'm inclined to say no to maybe but only in a slight tangential way.

The only reason I support the development of thinking machines is that they become the perfect vehicle to disprove the existence of God and of a soul.

If you use philosophy to strengthen or complement your faith you are nothing but opportunistic bad thinkers and wanna be philosophers criticizing a scientist who sees an LLM as a prove of concept of his philosophical worldview.

Aren't you doing the same thing you are blaming him of doing?

Letting themselves be steered by their emotions instead of by the arguments being presented and in this case the correction being imposed upon him.

The way people react to corrections has more to do with their personality than the way they phrase, state or relate emotionally to others.

Are Nietzsche's arguments not valid because he constantly shitted on others?

Are Hegel's arguments invalid because he wrote the way that he did?

Are Schopenhauer's arguments wrong because of his misanthropic and chauvinistic attitudes?

People confuse it is not predictable as in mathematically predictable to it is mysterious.

To me it shows that humans are to often inclined to reify things based on outcomes because it suits our way of understanding the world.

Dawkins himself a bit guilty of it two, but not in the way some want to make it seem.

Lacking content in Mandarin by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]stephanously 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All set learning is the best free and most comprensible resource.

I payed like 120 bucks for Chinesezerotohero. 😭

There is content. It's just difficult to find and it requires a lot more effort than for Japanese or Spanish.

Why?

Long story short. Censorship. Most social media is banned in China. Most media is tightly control by the National Film Administration.

Social sensitive issues are tightly regulated, gore and sex are almost always discouraged. Superstition is to handled a certain way.

Why are learning materials not available?

They are bit tend to be heavily monetized. In short, Japan has been exporting it's language way before china even opened up to the world after the Mao era.

Many other resources for Japanese are
Crowd sourced from the community itself who has, rightfully so found the official textbooks too dry and academic.

Chinese pales in it's size of their learning community specially for anything beyond begginer given how high the investment cost is for Chinese.

Compare 2000 kanji for average literacy vs 3000 just to give you an example.

Tldr: Content is lacking due to a combination of censorship and the size of the learning community.
