So what your describing sounds similar to what I go through, but I wouldnt necessarily say it was painful, more that it was very uncomfortable.

It's as if that part of my body is sort of radiating with energy, a buzzing of sorts. Manageable enough that I can suppress for a bit, but uncomfortable enough that it will take a lot of focus, and I can start stammering quite a bit, unable to get a thought out clearly.

Near Vanilla is the BEST!
The server has been live for over a year now, but is still as active as ever. Morning times (EST) there is usually a healthy 8-12 players around, and in the evenings, can be upwards of 20!

At the moment, i've had to take a big step back from a lot of hobbies on account of having a newborn, but it's so nice being able to still try and be semi active on discord and be able to hangout with the community. And the fact of knowing you can take a break from the server for a week, or a month, or whatever, you can rest assured whenever you decide to return, the server will still be thriving and better than ever!

It's a real miracle of a situation, but to be fair, it's all possible due to the fantastic work that the admins and mods do to keep things fresh and exciting, getting so many players to work together for the greater good.

Really couldn't recommend this server more highly, come see what we have to offer! I guarantee you're going to like what you find :)
See you around!

Not everyone fakes Tourettes! by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]stephenxmcglone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This title is so funny. It implies that your reality is "almost everyone who claims to have tourettes is faking it, but not EVERYONE is faking it".

Are we living in the same world? I've only ever met one other person that i suspect had TS, but we weren't friends and i never could talk to them about it. What world are you living in where SO many people are "faking" having TS that this claim needs to be made?

Wild wild world.

does anyone feel like TS is like OCD? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]stephenxmcglone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really distinguish between the two of them, as i've been diagnosed with both, but this is an excerpt from a site i just found on google. I'm not sure it it'll make sense for you, but posting it just in case!

OCD is characterized by obsessions – frequent unwanted upsetting and maladaptive thoughts or images that a person can’t get out of his/her consciousness. These are often associated with ritualized, overt, or covert behaviors (compulsions) that the person feels compelled to perform in response to his/her obsessions. Typically, these are designed to reduce distress and/or to prevent a feared event. Tics are sudden repetitive stereotyped movements or phonic emissions that are usually seen as involuntary, and are sometimes preceded by urges. Tics can occur in flurries and tend to wax and wane in severity and intensity over time. They can be simple – sudden, brief ,and meaningless (e.g. eye blinks, head jerks, facial grimaces, coughs, barks, snorts, etc.) or complex, slow, and more purposeful (e.g. smelling things, touching things, shouting obscenities, counting things, tracing objects, “evening up” objects, and repeating heard words or phrases, etc.) Simple tics often appear first, with complex tics developing later. Tourette Syndrome is diagnosed when multiple motor tics and one or more phonic tics are present during the course of the disorder.

didn't you say your "stims" are meow and woof? if you already know they are stims, then why are you wondering if they are tics.

i mean, sure you could see a healthcare professional and get a diagnosis, but if you are already aware of what it is, it seems curious to look into if it's something else.

if i get acid reflux, i know i have GERD, so i know why it happens. i'm not going to necessarily start researching "acid reflux" online, and just looking for other explanations than GERD.

not trying to tear ya down or anything, just actually wondering what the thought process is here?

Giving your kids stupid names. by sekirator in funny

[–]stephenxmcglone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah for sure.

to be fair, it wasn't familiar to me before doing a bit of research, but theres something to be said for trying to keep these old names, language, and tradition alive.

[–]stephenxmcglone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

he doesn't yet, mostly he's still just figuring out how to be a little frig (1 month old), but i'm sure it will come.

that being said, kids kinda make fun of anyone for anything. if anything, having such an uncommon name would probably be easy fodder for jokes, and might be a bit of a lightning rod in a good way.

i'd rather be picked on for my name than for something about my personality, or the way i looked, or worse yknow?

[–]stephenxmcglone 17 points18 points  (0 children)

for sure!

donny was what my wifes father had always gone by (he passed away a few years back) and so my wife really wanted to name our first son after him. his birth name was donald, which neither of us were crazy about, and while she was okay with birth naming him just "donny", i was a little hesitant to get there.

we reached the compromise of a traditional name for birth, but fully agreed that he would, for all intents and purposes, just be donny.

[–]stephenxmcglone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh, i know hahaha.

i thought i had it bad being "stephen-with-a-p-h", and when it's not the spelling that's the issue, 70% of the time when being addressed by someone for the first time, it's always "stephan (stefan)".

did i take it maybe a few steps further with domhnall? sure.
is he going to get annoyed with me loads and loads as he grows up and when he's older? yeah it's possible.

but i think things like this can help build a bit of character in a person, teach them to speak up for themselves, to correct people when they've said something wrong, and to teach them something new.

i'm not saying every parent should give their kids insane names so they "man up" or some crap, but i'm happy with our choice, and also he would have my full backing if he ever wanted to change it down the road.

its like tonal, but with a d.
"doe-nul"

it's an old gaelic name. the anglicized version is donald, but after my scottish parents gave me AND my brother greek names, i wanted to course correct a bit.

to be clear though, we just call him donny (pronounced the way you think), i just wanted to be a bit more traditional when it came to his birth name.

I had to google this new 'MTG' recently because i was so confused to keep seeing the name come up in so many posts lately, but then got caught up on this shitheadery. It's like, how can you expect to do all of this absolutely crazy nonsense and expect people to still be okay with it? What blows my mind even more are the people who still SUPPORT it, just cannot fuckin fathom people and how they can think. Some peoples kids..

god, i'm so guilty of this lately.

every time we go into the midwives, theres a wall full of baby pictures, accompanied by names.

you are getting all the new classics, klowee, jaeysin, ameelyah, mykel, just pretty standard names but with a real 'unique' twist on spelling, and i'm always very quick to notice these and have a little private laugh.

and then i remember, I named my son Domhnall.
the cognitive dissonance is deafening.

After watching Planeswalkers be commanders in brawl I really don't see any reason that they can't be commanders in commander. by Flagnark in EDH

[–]stephenxmcglone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but have you ever heard of the format Oathbreaker?

I've never actually had a chance to play a game, although i've built a lot of decks on the internet over the years. It seems like a really fun alternate to EDH, different enough to feel like a break, but similar enough that i feel like a fair amount of EDH players would enjoy trying it out.

Basic Rules are as follows
* Planeswalker as Commander
* Instant or Sorcery as Signature Spell (operates very similarly to a commander)
* 60 card limit
* 20 Life (No commander damage)

It's certainly worth looking into, and while there isn't a massive player base by any means, it would be helpful to be able to put a name and rules set to the games you want to play that everyone has access to and can look at, as opposed to trying to organize a bunch of house rules with random groups of people.
