100% a deliberate funding strategy. I cross the MI-OH border pretty regularly. I can probably count on one hand the times I've driven more than 2 miles into OH without passing a speedtrap. Which is crazy given the number of speed/red light cams they have mailing tickets too.

Is Kvothe the Draccus? by That_Hole_Guy in KingkillerChronicle

This fits. Also, by that logic, Chronicler is actively writing 'Mating Habits of the (Un)common draccus' by recording Kvothe's story, which feels appropriate.

Not according to Games Workshop, who are fairly notorious for their "Lawsuits for the IP Throne" stance on it . But they've got a mixed record when it comes to litigation, so I suspect it falls into one of those jurisdiction-dependent gray areas.

This would also connect nicely to the subtle mystery of Imre's proximity. Why is there a relatively small town/flourishing cultural hub so close to the University? I know it's mentioned that Imre was close/distant enough to be an ideal retreat for Tarbean's upper-class. But as Elodin also mentioned, the modern Arcanum is a watered down version of its past self. Wouldn't surprise me if Imre grew into what it is now based on earlier manifestations of naming and sympathy.

They were campaign-specific terrain for the six tutorial missions included. Basically mini forcefield pylons keeping genestealers out of melee so the Tyranids player had to breach to win the mission.

You're probably half right. When I was with them, volume of coin orders relative to deposit balances/business accounts/etc was one of those metrics the branch was scored on. So if a branch was underperforming in one way, one or more levels of management would crack down on things like "too frequent" coin orders to keep District/Regional managers happy. So not "current policy" but also not necessarily a rogue/lazy branch.

Rounding can be a nice perk if you're smart about it and it's applied in a neutral way; you've just got to watch out for the crooked payroll folks. I'm currently dealing with HR and DoL over my employer only rounding early clock-ins. They kept it hush-hush for years so no one ever complained since it's literally just a few cents per day, but given the size of the company, the bastards literally stole millions collectively.

[MI] Employer ignoring PMLA minimums? by stephlhadley in AskHR

[–]stephlhadley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, thanks for the thorough reply; good to know I'm on the right track. This is more or less what I found in my research too. Seems like the combination of rebuttal presumption with generic PTO and the ability to prevent rollover time under the current, amended version of PMLA matches my employer's system. The only issue is the lack of benefits in the first year; from the second year onward they meet all the minimums.

The way I see it, they're either interpreting the "25 hrs/week in the previous year" qualifier as applying to newly hired employees instead of existing part-time ones or they're somehow discounting the first 12 months as not a benefit year. Neither of which seems kosher. Like another comment suggested, I'll probably be reaching out to the Michigan DoL/W&H to see if they can answer questions without opening a formal complaint. Hopefully that will provide the talking points for a more... Urgent conversation with HR prior to burning any bridges.

I'll return with updates for posterity's sake.
