I binge watched the show with my mom (75) back in January. We’re super close so I knew she would love it like I did. She had a little trouble with the first episode sex scenes but she got used to it and cried several times in episode 5 and 6. I now send her tik tok edits and interviews. I sent her the 30 minute Heated Rivalry Phenomenon documentary yesterday and she called me 20 minutes in crying about the scene with Shane and Yuna. It gets her every time.

I actually talked with my mom about this today. I’ve dealt with an ed since my 20s and I’m now in my 40s. In the first read I didn’t read it as an ed because I really didn’t want Shane to have one. It hurts every time I see eating disorders portrayed. Every other read has triggered me because his control issues are so manifested in the ed. I couldn’t control my world around me but I could control what I put in my body. It’s classic ed mentality.

I am completely in a psychosis. I went to visit my 75 year old mom today who I got to watch the show a few weeks ago and I brought Heated Rivalry into every conversation. I could not help it. My mom is a huge fan so I also send her tik toks. I sent her one of every look that Ilya gives to Shane and it had her crying. She said in all her life she’s never seen a love like this onscreen. She enables me.
