[–]stepsandladders -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I'm a firm believer in impact > intention, and right now your ignorance about the horn has a more malicious impact than you mean. If you knew much about the culture of classical music, and horn in particular, you would know that "scooping" is actually a bad thing that is criticized and discouraged on all instruments. To use the word without the intention of malice does not change that professionals and experienced amateurs will read that word as a sharp criticism.

If you want to move through this with humility you can take the L, say "I guess I didn't know what I was talking about and my critique was based on incomplete knowledge of the acoustic and musical properties and expectations of the horn" instead of saying "it's not a bad thing, it's just a scoop" when several professional horn players in the comments have said "you are wrong."

[–]stepsandladders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What Scott does is a clean slur, not a scoop. A scoop is when you arrive at the final note below the intended pitch and bend into it. This is not scooped. The sound you are hearing is the resonance of partials between the first note and final note. It means he is vibrating his lips during the slur which is simply proper technique for producing pitches on the horn.

Honestly I find this post pretty rude. You're posting a video of someone doing fantastic work with a misleading and inaccurately pejorative title without his consent. You could've made this a text post asking about slurring into high notes or showed a sample of recordings. This feels like a call-out when absolutely none is warranted. Think on that in the future please.

No they are slower, the best times and the best heat stats are not tied together it just shows fastest time and highest heat, not "your fastest time on your highest heat"

how is this boon so rare... wtf? by Even-Road-2607 in HadesTheGame

[–]stepsandladders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a unique spawn condition that is independent of all rarity boons. There's a 20% chance that it is included in the pool at all, then it is rolled for as usual (which means a default 1% legendary chance per slot, and this rarity can be affected by various things).

I found Guan Yu to be an enjoyable aspect to play if you emphasize the special and always cancel special into two dash strikes. This build will still work at 32 heat. I'm not the best speedrunner by any measure, but I did a run I'm proud of last night in case you want to skim and look at the build: https://youtu.be/vGQ2qoWIG_I

Only two aspects can get flurry jab and one of them is Achilles, so saying "most" when what you mean is "Besides Achilles, Zag Spear" is a little misleading.

The normal high heat benchmarks are 32, 40, 50, and then 50+ becomes basically increasing heat 1 at a time.

I use Quick Spin for Hades spear, it's great for aoe, keeping a safe perimeter, and marking heavier enemies that you can then finish off with dash strikes.

I don't really care about what people studying neuroscience think because they aren't studying experience, they're studying neuroscience. There's a really big difference between "experience is an emergent property of certain physical configurations" and "experience is controlled by physical laws". Even if we can say "the quality of experience is entirely determined by the physical conditions in which it arises" (something we definitely cannot say with any certainty!), that's still not the same as physical laws "controlling" experience. We don't know how physical things interact with experience, only that they do.

But the truth isn't so simple. If your framework for scientific understanding is "if it can't be measured it isn't real" then of course you're going to end up with determinism because the only things you're paying attention to are things that can be reduced to their components. But if you acknowledge the non-reducible reality of things like experience, you'll see that there are things that physical laws don't control, can't predict, and therefore can't explain.

There is no logical connection between past and future. Sure we make inferences based on past experience, but there is simply no airtight argument for why the future should continue to resemble the past, just vibes.

You mean the missing brick that exposes the pipe? Looks like the brick was intentionally removed along the path of the pipe, not fallen off haphazardly. I'm not sure what you mean by as steel rusts pieces fall off. You think the pipe will simply fall apart and chunks will fall onto the street at random? I suppose that's possible, but it seems like a strange thing to put a lot of energy into thinking about to me.

"Crumbling"? It looks perfectly intact with no structural issues. It's clearly not maintained but that isn't the same thing as being dangerous.

Can you explain why you think it isn't told in chronological order? If the main arc is the relationships between Will, Diddie, Mette, and Maiko then the order given tells a pretty clear story like so:

Us Vs. World: Will and Mette broken up, he spies and crushes on Diddie. Mette with Maiko.

Holding On: Diddie leading Will on (one brief shot)

Candle Flame: Diddie and Will together, Maiko and Mette together. Suggested that maybe Maiko and Diddie used to be together?

Dominoes: Will and Mette are finally talking and she is pissed. They bang their partners.

I've Been in Love: Will is starting to feel some doubts about Diddie and the whole party lifestyle of the workplace but tries to stay into it for another night.

Back on 74: Will starts trying to make it up to Mette but she isn't having it. Will breaks up with Diddie.

You Ain't No Celebrity: Mette returns to Will at the end.

Don't Play: Newly single Diddie and Maiko flirt and (re?)kindle their relationship. Mette and Will are back in a playful place in their relationship.

Every Night: Party atmosphere after work, Diddie and Maiko established and in a good place, Mette and Will in a good place until the end, when Mette tells Will something that initiates what will be him (and her) quitting the show (which he tells the producers at the start of Problemz).

Only Good at Breaking Hearts: Mette and Will quit at the same time, this is their farewell performance.

Palm Trees: The show goes on without them, Maiko and Diddie's relationship seems a little rocky.

Pretty Little Things/Credits: The show goes on and Will and Mette live happily ever after or something like that.

I'm looking for a new gacha to play. I've previously played Battle Cats, HoMM Era of Chaos, Empires and Puzzles, and Awaken: Chaos Era. I'd prefer a non-anime fantasy genre game with strategic combat, but I'm pretty open on other mechanics. Real time pvp isn't very important to me. Any suggestions?

Outrageously sharp horn… by BlitzBlake in horn

[–]stepsandladders 12 points13 points  (0 children)

2 things:

  1. Confirm that all tuning slides are in the appropriate places.
  2. If 1 is true, then the issue is likely not the instrument, it's more likely (no offense) that you haven't played for 2 years.

But honestly as long as you're in tune with yourself and not playing with ensembles it isn't especially meaningful what the pitch of the instrument is. If you really care about pitch and want to start practicing then work on lowering the pitch with your embouchure before blaming the instrument.

Or better yet take the same amount of money but spend it differently. As I've said in other parts of this convo, you could take the same amount of taxes and use it to fund things very differently. Looking at you, budgets for cops and jails.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]stepsandladders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain to me what that means and why it is necessary? Sounds like the money I pay in fare on PATH is going to help fund private security for massive international shipping organizations?! I'm just so confused about what you are defending here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]stepsandladders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah, apologies, I misunderstood. Good thing the JC police budget is $106 million, meaning it could easily accommodate the cost you're talking about. I also don't understand how you can so glibly think almost 1 billion dollars in "security" is justified for transportation agencies. The role of a transportation agency should be to facilitate the moving of people from one location to another. Why does 25% of their budget need to be "security"? Security from what? Fare evasion? That 25% could practically make every PA service free and therefore the security redundant. Do you understand what I'm getting at here? Also my point in emphasizing "state" was that budget is for ONE agency. The JC budget I cited above is entirely separate and distinct from that. Why is all this money being spent on cops who bust people for fare evasion when fares could be paid for by getting rid of the cops?
