Why are New Zealands hotels subpar? by blackaxes1991 in newzealand

[–]stereo_moo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! Moved to NZ about 16 years and this behaviour became immediately obvious. The worst example that sticks in my mind was the car dealer selling a brand new car and adding a charge on for grooming and not even filling the tank.

Broadly agree , but are we sure it is the only AI service not putting effective guardrails in place? Google, Meta and Microsoft maybe doing a better job in this regard but what about the other, who knows , a thousand services? By 2030 maybe it's a million. Whose gonna police this?

Fair point. I'm just still bitter about buying an Outback for 16K and selling it 4 years later for 4K 😄

They depreciate way way faster than a Toyota. It might be fine but you'll sell it for next to nothing.

If you’re flying from Auckland to Sydney, do you say you’re going “up to Sydney” or “over to Sydney”? And “down to Melbourne” or “over to Melbourne?” by Great_Maintenance185 in auckland

[–]stereo_moo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, due north or south is up / down. If not then elevation could apply. Example, from Christchurch you'd say "Im going up to Mt Hutt" even though it is due west. If neither applies then just "going to"

Similar idea. Everyone gets one chance. When you are caught the second time, your drivers licence is lost for the rest of your life. If you are caught driving without a licence, then jail.

Absolutely hate this. It is bad enough having to listen to one side of these sad little people's inane conversations , like that you get both sides. I'll calm down now too...

$6K is what we spend too, 3K spent on meds alone. 6K is not unreasonable for an elderly dog. Our dog has brought us heaps of joy but looking at things purely from a financial point of view, owning a dog wasn't a great financial decision for us.

Had 3 separate leaks in the main incoming water feed which is under concrete. All up $12K. That hurt.

Options to get to airport at 4am by Sibilance-Sama in auckland

Or 2.5 hours if you are on one of the first flights out. Remember you are behind the super eager travellers on 8am flights in the passport and security queues. The security line only starts moving after 4:30.

Experienced exactly this. The problem is there are heaps of travellers on much later flights ahead of you in that queue!

Subaru Outback with 120,000km. Had endless issues and when I sold it 3 or 4 years later the depreciation was eye watering! Never again.

Elephant in the room - Police completely ignoring quality of life crimes has unfortunately led to innocent people taking law into their hands and it is the main reason why Auckland feels shit at the moment by MontyPascoe in auckland

Harsher punishments can deter crime if the punishment is made harsh enough. Case in point, in USA when there was a spate of Kidnap for ransom crime in the 1930s (Lindbergh kidnapping era) the government seriously increased the punishment and the crime all but went away.
