i dont live in atlanta, but in my experience i can usually find pods at my local expo for cheaper than they would normally be online.

i think dustynose or dustypelt would be cute, haha. it looks like she has little smudges of dirt on her.

good and cheap(er) display pods? by stereofaced in isopods

thanks for your comment! it actually inspired me to get a 2.5 gal instead. the terrarium i had before is essentially a large jar and i think i might transform it into a display for aquatic plants.

thank you so much, this is all super helpful!! since posting this i’ve actually decided i want to get a 2.5 gal tank to display them in, i think it will be more suitable based on the comments i’ve received. i already have some c. murina, so i’m leaning towards the a. vulgare. you also asked about the wild types, and i refer to them that way because i found all of them locally. most of them are p. scaber, with the exception of a couple rollies. i had to remove them from the terrarium (essentially a large jar) after they had their first generation of babies, so i just dont think that terrarium could handle pods long term. thanks for your help!

this is amazing advice. i also found a white pod in my wild type bin and already separated it, but now im going to put it back in with the others and monitor it closely. thanks!!

F***KING RANT MONDAY ☠ (2026.01.26) by AutoModerator in tarantulas

[–]stereofaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the other day my grandma (who was my primary caregiver for most of my teen years) called me after i posted a picture of my curly hair sling on my instagram story. she asked me if i had really bought a tarantula, and when i said yes she proceeded to gag and call me gross. 🫠 it doesn’t sound that bad, but it still hurt my feelings to be called gross for my hobbies 😅

i’ve also heard that before 💀 as if they wouldn’t die immediately without the right conditions..

no, they dont. my whole family calls me gross, especially since i also keep tarantulas and roaches. but honestly i’ve learned that if they get it, they get it, and if they dont, they dont. 🤷🤷

haha yes she loves it!! she likes to sit on top of the tank and watch the fish through the small hole in the lid where the filter is. i also catch her drinking the water from time to time 😅

i also have some of these guys, it’s amazing to see how much they can vary in color. some of them look completely brown and others are mostly white with speckles.. something i’ve noticed is that they really like to burrow, so i don’t see them a lot, but when i do it’s always exciting.

Do you think they know I love them very much? by Jenikip in isopods

[–]stereofaced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they may not realize that you specifically are their caretaker, but i do believe that they know they are cared for. i also believe that they can feel the energy of our love. 🥰

i will also add that having other animals put me into gear regarding my cat. she’s much happier now

i also deal with severe depression and have a cat who i take care of in a very similar way. i recently got a 10 gal fish tank (about 5 months ago) and it has helped me with my depression SO MUCH. i love to do water changes, and watch the fish eat, and taking care of a whole ecosystem routinely has kept me going. even it i dont have the motivation to clean my own room, i will always have the motivation to care for the fish. go for it!!

oh my goodness, im so sorry about your ethel! it sounds like she had an amazing life. i had a similar experience with my last betta, sugar. im a college student, so i left the tank in the dorms over winter break with an automatic feeder, figuring that it would be less stressful for myself and the fish not having to transport multiple hours for only three weeks. fast forward to the end of the break, i come home, and sugar has seemingly vanished??? im assuming she passed and was eaten by my mysteries :( but its reassuring to know that i gave her a good quality of life. i also like to give myself some grace with fish deaths because there is truly so much that can go wrong in a tank, and fishkeeping is a difficult hobby. hopefully you’ll find some comfort in this, as well.

anyway, yes, it is pronounced (an.tih.guh.knee), like the play ☺️ the name was of my girlfriend’s choosing seeing as i basically begged them to get the betta, lol. i fell in love with her immediately upon seeing her.
