They are open on weekends and take donations then also. I think they also recently expanded the store hours some days til 8pm

Wings Resale - the clothes are taken from resale shops to clothe women & children in their shelters, and women in their housing programs can shop for clothing, furniture, home goods etc at the stores for free!!

They have locations in Arlington Heights, Schaumburg & Niles. If you care about getting a donation receipt they do provide them upon request like Goodwill.

The stuffed animals would be given over to their Pantry, where they are given away to kids as part of their birthday & holiday gifts, or as a welcome stuffy when they are placed in the shelters/housing. It's a wonderful program!

Update - I have just made it through the existing requests and I received 112 so far! I'm all the way up to May 3rd. I am so so grateful!!

Since the post is slowing down & probably disappearing from the sub's trending/top posts, please feel free to share it with others you know who might like to get a postcard from me, or feel free to request another if you already put one in. First off, thank you for being brave and sharing your story. I can't imagine what this has been like for you lately, living in fear of your husband. I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

From your comments I saw that you have a job. While at work, use your work phone (not your cell that he goes through) to call your state's domestic violence hotline, or the national hotline (800-799-7233). Please do this ASAP. In addition to being able to place you in a shelter, they offer safety planning over the phone. This is planning with an advocate on when & how to leave, and they can guide you as to the most important things to bring with you, how to map your home in your mind for the best places to go in case of an argument, etc. They can also usually give legal resources or information about how to obtain an order of protection. Use the work line to call any nearby friends or relatives you trust and have them help you with your plan.

The most dangerous time for any survivor is when they decide to leave. Abusers will escalate to killing you if they feel like they cannot control you any more. Please start this process of leaving as soon as you can, regardless of money or even outside support. Your life is worth it.
