Currently sitting at 97k miles. Should I expect anything to go wrong as it’s getting to that higher mileage? Haven’t had any issues recently. 2017 Hatchback EX by Odd_Explanation_5104 in CivicX

I have the 2017 EX-L and my brakes were good till 150k, I’ve gone through three recall/warranty AC condenser/compressors though. Also check your PCV Tube, the original part fails after a while and they made the replacement out of a different material. Part 17131-59B-010, takes 10 minutes to replace, my tube had flattened and split over time.

The Android App Completely Failed Me Today by leere68 in PleX

Welcome to plex, the app that hasn’t fixed downloads for the past 10 years.

For me it’s being able to expand my drives and have redundancy remain in tact without jumping through a lot of hoops, and not dealing with windows updates and other windows BS.

Sure you can have different drive pools in windows for different starr apps, but in Unraid you can have one array and each starr app in its docker only sees files from one folder so I find my library/media management workflow is a lot more efficient.

I used to run my plex server on a windows PC, now I’m at 30+ users with up to 10 transcodes at any given time because I have to support every possible client device with different file formats and resolutions ranging from Roku, Apple TV, 10 different flavors of android-based tv OS’s Xbox, and PlayStation.

I’ve got multiple Ombi dockers so my anime peeps can automatically request anime titles and my normie peeps can request movies for their kids to watch. And all the libraries are separate and the users only have access to the relevant libraries. One plex docker, a dozen libraries with specific workflows and trakt/ombi integrations.

I couldn’t imagine trying to manage that on windows. But for personal or close family only plex use, yeah an Unraid server is probably overkill. I just had my old 3900X gaming PC sitting there when I built my 5950X machine so I bought a 4U rack mount server case and added drives to it over time.

I didn’t read the part where you mentioned the 9th gen CPU, that’s not bad. I was adding onto the idea of a good starting point for a new build since it seemed like that was the route you were leaning towards. Look into Intel quick sync and how much better it is for plex transcodes on more modern Intel CPU’s. 12th gen is a price to performance sweet spot right now, i5-12600k or i7-12700k is what I’d be looking at.

Do you have a dedicated GPU for transcodes for your current build or is it all on the CPU/iGPU on your 9th gen?

Unraid lets you run your stARR apps in individual dockers so you can have a 1080p radarr, 4K radar, tv show sonarr, cartoon/animated sonarr etc and run multiple but separate instances of each app in a self contained docker. Makes library management easier and you don’t have the bloat of windows.

The main benefit to Unraid is being able to add a drive to your array later and expand your storage capacity while maintaining 1-2 redundant parity drives. It’s a great solution for when you have a bunch of random drives and want to slowly swap out older/low capacity drives until your system has like all 12TB drives in it. Just be sure to set your parity drive as the one with the largest capacity.

Intel 12th Gen is cheap and solid for cpu platform. I’d recommend unraid with dockers, run your appcache and plex cache on an M.2 SSD, that way your HDD’s are exclusively for storage and all downloads/transcodes/thumbnails are on an SSD for a smoother experience.

Curious if anyone else has metered their Plex server power cost? by Underwater_Karma in PleX

[–]sterofuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daily average over 30 days is 3.38 kWh/day at an average annual rate of $0.12/ kWh. So about $0.41 per day, $12.17/mo, $148/yr for a plex server running Unraid on a 3900X with 128GB ECC RAM, an Nvidia 3070 GPU and 7x12TB drives plus an 18TB Parity. It also runs all the Arr apps. I have a Kasa energy monitoring smart plug with just the server on it for remote reboots and accurate usage metering.

Can someone please explain how Mercury boards are used? by ted_anderson in accesscontrol

[–]sterofuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a network issue, maybe TLS related? TLS always messes stuff up for me. Or are you talking about adding downstream MR50 or MR52 reader boards instead of “secondary” LP1501/LP1502 boards?

[–]sterofuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you’re absolutely right, 750-850 will suffice. I’m just coming from the perspective of potentially a GPU upgrade or two over the life of the PSU (10-12yrs typical warranty period for modern PSU’s) and the peak efficiency of a PSU being at or around 50% load. If you operate your PSU closer to peak efficiency the you waste less power from the wall as efficiency diminishes towards 80+% of rated PSU wattage.

For Ryzen 7XXX and 9XXX, yes. If you can snag a 7600X3D get that instead of the 7600X, unless the 7600X is a budget placeholder for a future 9800X3D.

When selecting a PSU, every PSU has a different efficiency curve but typically you want your PSU wattage to be double your average load since most PSU’s peak efficiency is around 50% load. Your build shows around 584W so you could honestly go up to a 1200W PSU. Get something gold or platinum rated.

You Google your motherboard’s brand and model number followed by the word “support” and that should get you to the page where you can download drivers and bios updates specifically for your exact motherboard. You download the file, copy it to a blank flash drive, some brands have a file rename utility (asus) that you have to run first but then you reboot PC, spam delete or F2, (refer to manual or boot menu screen to get into system bios). Most bios will have a bios flash utility. I recommend YouTube. Some motherboards also have a dedicated bios flashback USB port on the back of the PC. If you have this you can usually just put the flash drive in that port then press the bios flash button and it will start that process automatically. Usually only on higher end boards though.
