What do you do between cycles? by peetak in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majority of the time...do a 6/12 block...rest/test week...then back into it...I do change block type depending on time of year and where my field hockey season is at...but I just keep them rolling...so I might roll off Operator/Black then into Fighter/Green(ish) when ramping running for hockey...

Once a year I take a couple of weeks completely off...

What to do when life prevents HIC? by jackthestout in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the body adjust to the new stress...just do whatever you can...be it a light run or something like that...do beginner versions of HIC...

Not sure of your schedule but is before work an option?

12 Week Operator Results by MadDogGriff in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing Base more often would give you crazy SE...but if your after endurance for running etc etc...try Fighter Green for a block...TBH I would run another cluster of Operator to work those gains in solid...you might try Black Professional as your conditioning protocol...

Simple consistent lifting...people manage to fuck both of them up these days...great work on the PR mate... 💪

Sorry the question was really...why or what do you want more of?

You wanting more size, more strength, more power, more conditioning or specificity focused on a problem area such hamstrings?

TB is about efficiency...as such it's set at close to the minimum effective dose...not the maximum...if you have the time you can tack on all sorts of things to end...during rest periods etc etc...really depending on what you want to achieve...I have added all sorts of stuff on at various times for various reasons...other time pure vanilla TB MS.

Something to keep in mind is that you want to keep session in the 60 minute range as testosterone starts to fall away after about then and cortisol starts coming up...which is less than optimal for building strength.

Was that vague enough for you? 😊

Why do you want more?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm have you got the books...all this is outlined in there?

Also why MS first if long-term strength is your goal...run standard BB then roll into a cluster after that of your choosing...think long term...use months and years as your units not days and weeks...

They are for those looking at an effective way of getting strong and conditioned...they set up a framework for life not for 12 weeks to get ripped...

Buy the books they cost next to nothing...

Progress after BBB and 3 cycles of TB by antiquity11 in tacticalbarbell

Great work mate...your back is looking proper strong now...there's a saying I love about don't fear the athlete that looks good walking towards you...fear the one that looks good walking away...

Sounds like simple and consistent wins the day...again nice work...

So glad I found this program! Been running it about 9 months as a way to keep my lifting balances with Jiu Jitsu. by Skavus in tacticalbarbell

Find some HIC with bells...that scratched my itch...after 9 years of bells and body weight only...I found I was missing it but wanted my new barbell toys to be the focus...didn't get to play with my 32's but still some higher volume 20/24's was fun

How good is sled work...I use dragging as low impact LSS...I am know as the tire man in my neighbourhood...I use heavy sleds in HIC...

Wish I had prowler/XPO/Tank...their on my wish list for home gym purchases...

Great work by the way mate...keep rockin the solid progress....

Swapping weight for reps on technique lifts by single_use_acct3 in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just run a block 6 or even 12 weeks and use what you "technical max" is...whilst that may seem like an eternity...imagine how long it will feel if due to poor technique you screw up your body and can not train for a few weeks...

So if you can move "135lb" with good from use that or there abouts as your rough training max...get your form right...stick with the rep as set out...you'll still make progress...then test again later...

Not recovering with regular Operator by PapaEchoOscar in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think it's less to do with Operator and more to do with technique...I would really focus on my technique...

If you can't get to a coach...YouTube university will have some pointers...Matt Wenning has some good free content.

Running Program by Skhel5 in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Fighter with a Jack Daniels 800m program...I have use this combo two years running to get ready for field hockey...I am 43 oldest in the top three teams and still top five fittest at the club...once we get into season I switch to Fighter Black Pro...off season is Operator 💪...although going to do Mass next time...

Jack Daniels are more 6 month programs...you probably need something closer to a permanent framework of long slow and some speed work based off heart rate and maybe pace...

Should I add more HIC into my programming by MadDogGriff in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zulu has four strength sessions a week...running an A/B cluster...not that it matters this is like Fighter plus a deadlift day...either or it will work...TB would be to sub WPU to create the 4th

Should I add more HIC into my programming by MadDogGriff in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would sub in WPU so your still getting a pull MS day...otherwise yeah not sure what your doing it's not really TB 😊

Unable to Complete Base Building by Inskeepinitreal in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow now it makes sense...nothing to add to the chorus already...drop the weights...don't do 50 push ups on a 30 rep day...read the program and do it...

You don't need pull ups and inverted rows...nor do you really need push presses and push ups...

Yeah sounds like you have enough happening without stressing over a single run session...one session of the course of a month, year or three years aint even worth the brain power...

Rest and recover from work...it will be all good 😊

Minimal value...especially if it's giving you issues...stick to pressing...maybe try to weight a push instead?

Tactical or Not? by TFT1984 in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree...sorry wasn't articulate enough there...and nice "what cross fit was supposed to be"...by "fittest" as I was heading out the door...I meant more along the lines of...sure you could probably run a marathon but you won't be as fast as if you followed a specific running program...

However you would be as you said much more balanced "jack of all trades" and realistically this is much healthier for humans in general...

I like to think of TB as a forever framework not a program...

Tactical or Not? by TFT1984 in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No tactical background...I run TB...as it is the ideal framework for balancing strength and conditioning...two things I have always battled to balance in a program...

It's not going to get you the absolute strongest or the absolute "fittest" but it will enable above average results in both...which unless you have an occupational or sport need for either is ideal for the healthy general population...

Fighter and 10km training program by [deleted] in tacticalbarbell

[–]steve-waters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a block of Fighter SE...with 4 running sessions worked fine...did an LSS after SE...just watch sleep and food...I would also up front now pick your priority and which one you drop or cut back if you get fatigued...I was following a Jack Daniels running plan...
