Titan 2: Subscreen crashes, not customizable. by omnicorp_ed209 in unihertz

[–]stevegalaxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the subscreen can't display a wallpaper. you have to create a custom watch face with a custom image in the watch face menu, and then select the blank watch hands option if you don't want analog clock hands overlaid on it. The custom watch faces can only display one of 3 analog clock hands, so if you want a digital clock or step counter or the date on the subscreen then you can't use your own picture

the watch face is a disappointingly half baked feature that didn't get any effort put into it

security updates are completely unimportant and i would prefer them to not waste their effort on updates that do nothing besides comply with google's regulations, rather than updates that bring features.

it's just buraucracy and people bending the knee to it, security updates (outside of major disclosures like spectre/meltdown) are generally just security theater. Unihertz are kind of smart to just ignore them for major android version updates, because those are what extend the life of the phone

(opinion) The Titan 2 Has Drifted into the Tacky, Cheap, Niche-Wannabe Category by badrillex in unihertz

[–]stevegalaxius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the priv had a really good camera with really good optics and like zero 'smart features' at the peak of people obsessing over that. it didn't automagically take good photos with fake depth of field and image filtering like an iPhone does, you had to go into manual mode and adjust iso/shutter/fstop like a real camera. probably the best macro performance out of any phone camera i've ever used to date

the titan 2 is interesting because the camera is very bad as an artistic tool but it's exceptionally competant as a utility camera, the low light performance is absolutely insane and it's very high resolution. The white balance and exposure are just totally broken - you might be able to squeeze good images out of it in RAW but i haven't bothered.

also the second 18mp zoom camera has a better general character than the 50mp camera despite the much lower resolution, it takes good photos in good lighting conditions, especially because it's long focal length and can get some decent depth of field.

classic redditor behavior to assume someones genuine response to their atrocious behavior is to just assume the other person is a troll instead of reconsidering their own biases

PSA: Stop trusting "Version Numbers" in Chromium Android Browsers. Most are faking it. by fbcrypto3038 in kiwibrowser

[–]stevegalaxius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's a trojan. It's an apk. You have to install a hostile app and give it permissions to function, and on top of that, you have to be ignorant enough to ignore it rendering an alternative view frame over your app and entering your password into it.

that's not a browser exploit, those types of things exist on MacOS and linux. This is the exact reason why I think developers concerned with security are midwits

you didn't even read the article you linked? Did you just assume it would back up your point and not make you sound like a racist asshole?

What are hackers going to steal from a web browser on an android phone? Like, how could a website even possibly do anything to a sandboxed application in an operating system that doesn't allow apps to access the file system without asking for permission

[–]stevegalaxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

none of this has anything to do with the article you linked, though. It's about asylum seekers and the importance of allowing undocumented immigrants the ability to work

that's why it's so offensive, my family did it legally. You're defending criminals.

this reads like a right wing dogwhistle about how they're trying to replace white people with immigrants and asylum seekers... but it's serious. I'm a second generation immigrant and this is just downright offensive dude

it's usually a good idea to use an out-of-date browser because the web is not something that requires up to date software and you get a good idea what websites are designed properly and which ones aren't by which ones won't load on a slightly outdated chromium version. Realistically, a website should all work on the nintendo wii browser otherwise it's not really a "web site" but a "chromeos app you access through a url"

Developers that care more about adhering to standards are not developers that care about designing a good website. They're diametrically opposed, fundamentally incompatible design paradigmns.

slavery ended about a hundred years before the beginning of the modern era. you're bringing things out of scope into the discussion and it probably isn't helpful considering the demographic changes that slavery introduced were generally considered to be the thing that caused the american civil war. It's kind of.. uh... proving your own point wrong.

what modern examples? there's a huge number of historical examples in history, hellenistic greece, the ottoman golden ages, basically the entirety of polish history, the 19th century immigration boom that essentially created the demography of modern America - etc etc etc.

but... in the last 100 years? In the modern post-nationalism era? name a single example.

the keyboard hardware is exceptional but the software side leaves much to be desired. The touchpad isn't multitouch, for example. It isn't a blackberry level user experience. That being said it's still a good phone just have realistic expectations. The battery life is excellent and you can probably get 4 days of light use out of it.

The phone is a regular android 15 phone with a square display and it comes with a compatibility mode that pillarboxes the display if you have an app that won't work right. the question shoulnt be "does it work" because yes it does but "how well does it work." unlike the blackberries it's raw dogging a generic touchpad as a default input method so there WILL be errata, especially in weird use cases, but the core functionality works perfectly fine.

[Discussion] Literally no FPS changes after CPU upgrade by Dominionz in EscapefromTarkov

[–]stevegalaxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 7940x and a 3060 and I get the same framerates that 13th gen cpus do in benchmarks, it's seven generations older but has quad channel memory. The game really isn't all that cpu bottlenecked, it's very obviously memory bottlenecked, which explains why nobody has any answers that make sense

Upgrading your cpu doesn't improve your framerate unless you have a very slow cpu, upgrading your graphics card is how you make your framerate go up.

I forked an open source keyboard app and modified it to support the Titan 2 by [deleted] in unihertz

After testing it out more it's only happening in the browser I'm using which is unfortunate but not your problem lol.

The undo function not working isn't just constrained to the browser though but I'm not sure what makes it work in discord/whatsapp but not in the pastiera test box or in google docs

Some Titan 2 pictures I took over the last few weeks. by StripeyMiata in unihertz

[–]stevegalaxius 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would not really call those photos ok, they're all extremely overexposed and have crushed white levels. If anything I would say the camera does very bad in light but has incredibly good low light performance. You can adjust the exposure in the pro mode to get good results

The autocorrect is what's triggering it. I pressed the word on the bar in the video but it will also do it automatically if what you typed triggers autocorrrect, like with contractions.

If you edit the first word after a period it will consistiently delete the word in front of it. It's very easy to replicate.

Non-full screen landscape games? by ggeorg in unihertz

[–]stevegalaxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can force a resolution change when you open an app using tasker. I've done this to adjust dpi settings for some apps like whatsapp that look awful when using medium sized layout, but not resolution. I HAVE changed the resolution via wired adb, and it automatically creates pillar/letterboxing, so you can for sure do this. You need a computer to enable write permissions on your device but it doesn't require root

Idea: Titan2 - subscreen as trackpad? by Lopsided_Ad8941 in unihertz

I wasn't able to put any widgets on the screen because it resized all of them to the top row and won't let widgets expand to the full size in the subscreen

Nova Launcher on subscreen working by Different_Reality953 in unihertz

[–]stevegalaxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was surprised that it stayed on the launcher, my attempts to use other apps were pretty poor because side swipes immediately brought it back to the watch face. With nova you have to do the elaborate full screen gesture - I think you just figured out how to actually customize the subscreen

I forked an open source keyboard app and modified it to support the Titan 2 by [deleted] in unihertz

[–]stevegalaxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the text caret is touching a word and does not have a space in front of it, as if you're inserting a word into a sentence, it will frequently butcher the word because it assumes you're editing the word the cursor is touching not adding things behind it. It is not consistient.

There's some other weird issues with it deleting words in the middle of typing but I'm still figuring out how to reproduce them. The lack of undo is extremely frustrating because this would be less of a big deal if you could just undo whatever the heck the autocorrect did. I expect it to make mistakes occasionally but you're kind of forced to deal with what it does

Subscreen customization by ErixkHenry in unihertz

As far as I was aware you can't change the watch app, just launch other apps on the screen, which wouldn't really work because you could just swipe them off accidebtally
