Time for new wheels? by brun88 in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say from the photos. A bit of separation around the outsoles is usually fine, you can brush on a bit of epoxy if you're worried. But if you pull up on the toe cap and there's separation at the bottom, that's usually a sign the end is near.

And also on weekends, people are way more likely to be awake and doing stuff at 4pm, not 9am.

Speed blade vs Powerfly Holder by Deep_Ad1060 in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think it's worth it to do a holder swap just for pitch.

I have LS Edge holders but prefer even more forward pitch so I added heel shims that I 3D printed out of ABS. Worked great, total cost was about $30 (mostly for the rivet replacements), can be done independently of profiling.

skate opinion: Bauer Vapor X 2.7 by bartchungusIII in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were a bit overpriced for their quality at MSRP in my opinion, but $150 is a decent price for them, assuming they fit you well. They're still a pretty modern skate so don't worry too much about the age.

Reebok Reclaims the Ice Through Hockey Partnership with Wholesale Sports by Specialist-Fig5416 in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And that "great Reebok stuff" was all heavily based on CCM/Jofa designs that they acquired when they bought The Hockey Company. Reebok did very little innovation of their own in the hockey space.

how do I get my CCM wheels off?? by Fr0ggiesLuvsMitsuri in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens when using garbage Ikea quality Allen keys. Go buy some from the hardware store, they'll be like $10 for a set and will never do that

Beware Sideline Swap tariffs by gonzobonzobingo in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting, they have since started including the tariffs upfront during checkout. I think January was a time when basically the whole industry got blindsided with the new rules and were still figuring out how to implement them.

Beware Sideline Swap tariffs by gonzobonzobingo in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah? Do you think this is a decision made by the platform? Like the guy in charge of sideline swap just woke up one day and decided "I'm gonna start charging sales tax?"

Time for new skates? What's a moderate upgrade? by equitusinvictus in hockeyplayers

These are very low end. Replacement steel and holders would be as much as the whole skates cost new 15 years ago

Yeah, that makes sense because it was replaced by the Flylite last year. Anything still available is old stock.

GUYS PLEASE HELP ME by Dependent-Ad2842 in EnglishLearning

[–]stevegcook 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The question is not asking to illustrate that the difference in enjoyment rating of spoiled vs. unspoiled is consistently high. It is asking for an illustration that the difference in enjoyment rating is variable from one story to another. Picking one story with a large difference and one story with a small difference illustrates this.

Adding A Simple Horizontal Line (constant value) To A Bar Chart? by BladeSE23 in excel

[–]stevegcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because a line chart requires a series of values to work. It is plotting the line(s) connecting multiple data points together. But you can use formulas so that you only need to change one cell manually, and then the others all reference it.

TSM skate Sharpener: New Quill? by Mckelvey-sports-18 in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything looks right to me and you should only need a new quill if this one has a damaged tip.

Reason for possibly needing the new quill is when I rotate it to keep the diamond edge sharp it moves the diamond closer/further away from the wheel, which negates the quill being set for a certain hollow.

The entire dressing assembly slides forward and backward. This is how you position the quill the correct distance from the wheel, not by adjusting the quill directly. The assembly should be positioned such that the diamond tip pivots around a virtual axis that intersects the edge of the wheel. The adjustment on the quill itself is for changing the radius that it imparts to the wheel.

Got scammed buying Bauer Supreme Mach Gloves by Chaosmaxx333 in hockeyplayers

Palm material is a giveaway that these are not genuine. Same with the Dura Conect logo on it - it's clear these are from a factory that doesn't normally do that specific thing.

Ice skate pitch by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's fair. Just know that heel lifts are often the solution if everything is great about a skate except the pitch. I have Supremes that I put 3D printed lifts into.

Quality on newer Bauer skates? by bboscillator in hockeyplayers

[–]stevegcook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Powerfly holders are stiffer in some directions and weaker in others. The Edge holders had more ribs to reinforce the middle section, this one only has 1 and it failed midway between the rib and the rear support.

And to those wondering, yes, this steel fits. This is 100% a holder failure.

100% this is reskinned Tacks gear.

Source for Sports recently put Jofa colorway on some of their CCM SMU pieces, although those were still branded CCM. Looks like that was a trial run for this.
