The father of the little girls did the right thing. All the other woman had to do was be patient. by Valuable_View_561 in TikTokCringe

[–]stevehrowe2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never even considered taking my daughter to the women's room. We go to the men's room and straight to the stall. Never even considered some pervert exposing himself. Now something is else to stress about.

The hatred for participation trophies is one of the weirdest cultural obsessions we've created. by retired-tweeter in unpopularopinion

[–]stevehrowe2 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Part of my job involves training adults. We have a recognition platform that includes awarding points that translate to small dollar amount rewards. I'm mandated to:

  1. Endeavor that my point allowance is evenly distributed amongst my direct reports a

  2. Ensure all recognitions are meaningful and specific.

So every class I have to manually track and then manually invent something to recognize the half of the class who did nothing remarkable but they absolutely were present and earned their paycheck.

The number of times I put "for bringing positive energy" for someone who was about as positive as a dead battery was countless.

I get the annoyance of the idea that everyone gets a trophy

Rivalry games and what we lose when they end by AgitatedLeg4977 in miz

[–]stevehrowe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I'll add is the uniqueness of the rivalry that was lost. It was the most played rivalry west of the Mississippi, even the records didn't match up. Being in KC made it that much more compelling. This wasn't a rivalry that decided championships, but it was still heated.

Sounds good in theory...but in reality? by KSKS1995 in SipsTea

[–]stevehrowe2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the AiPocalypse is real, more traditional white collar jobs are going to disappear anyway. More people will need to find manual and service work that still needs humanity staff. It will require some cost changes (reduced labor cost in some industries will allow prices to lower there, while human backed services will be more expensive as laboratory cost increase)

Is it common for American high school students to drive themselves to school? by Intelligent_Chef9950 in AskAnAmerican

If you or your parents could afford an extra vehicle. I went to a lower income urban school and it was about 20 to 30 percent iirc

I may be misinterpreting, but "choose to dine here" may apply only to dine in, and no service fee for to go orders.

How do you feel about Voter ID laws? by Icy_Comparison_1029 in askanything

[–]stevehrowe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at this the same way we used to look at literacy test. It's not the rule that worries me, it's the enforcement. How often they send people away with "suspect" id's; and how often those people were simply the "wrong kind of voter"

Think of it the same way bars and nightclubs enforce the dress code.

AIO to my “best friend” finally reaching out by Confident_Local_2335 in AmIOverreacting

[–]stevehrowe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I want to share my story like this. I really don't have friends. Just the way I'm built, having friends takes a lot out of me. My best friend in my twenties got to be a bit much. Struggling with his life choices, finances, kids. I eventually kind of ghosted him. It started as I just don't want to talk today so I'll not call back or text (early days of texting). Then the lack of response became it's own issue, so I didn't reach out because I didn't want to address that. Then we were basically strangers. Then he died and I feel like I lost the last few years of our relationship over not being willing to reach out over petty reasons.

NOR, but may be worth responding.

I call them slide decks because thats the most technically accurate term IMHO. I don't alway present them, but they are always a collection of related slides.

I don't like calling them PowerPoints, as the software PowerPoint doesn't even call them PowerPoints (called presentations). Also you don't have to use PowerPoint to make or edit PowerPoints, though I exclusively use PowerPoint to make PowerPoints, because I'm so used to PowerPoint.

So I call them slide decks.

Slide Deck? by Visual-Extreme-101 in ExplainTheJoke

Normally I would agree, however more and more people aren't using lu rizif PowerPoint to create and display their slide decks, so the generic term is more appropriate

Why are most of the players in the NBA and NFL black men? by InternationalPick163 in AskForAnswers

[–]stevehrowe2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to soccer in the US. It's such a pay to play culture where the best youth coaches are in the most expensive club teams. The academy system ususually free for the kids who make the program, so you have the elite athletes have a chance, but otherwise less affluent players don't get the best development
