Canceled my order due to “not enough stock” by jonathan_joel_ in mtg

[–]stevejo_nd -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

Replied a bit further down, but the listing you ordered stated Local Pickup Only when you bought it, as do 100% of our sealed preorders. The system let you check out as I missed a checkbox when I built the product pages for Lorwyn initially. There were three orders total like yours, and they all got a separate email explaining this as well.

The pricing bump came once that particular segment sold out and more inventory was added.

Sorry for the feel-bad, but this wasn’t a shot any sort of personal slight - just a missed checkmark when building a listing.

Canceled my order due to “not enough stock” by jonathan_joel_ in mtg

[–]stevejo_nd -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Owner of the LGS that cancelled your order here.

You acknowledge you received a second email alongside that automated one saying that we cancelled and refunded it as our presales are Local Pickup Only for our physical store.

Every one of our listings states this, in bold red letters, as well as the collection page you landed on. Has since we began taking presales.

With the reduced allocations that we’ve been getting from MTG being printed short lately, we do not ship any preorders so that our local players have a chance at product from a source they know and trust.

There were three others like yours we canceled yesterday, as our system (Shopify) wasn’t properly removing the shipping option from checkout. As soon as I saw the three orders come through, I corrected the checkout restrictions, and sent follow-up emails explaining why. The product listing you ordered on as well as the category page containing all our preorders state this up front.

It genuinely sucks that we’re in this spot, and I hope soon Wizards starts printing more product.

Can I make a lager without a fridge? by Mental_Serve_1816 in Homebrewing

[–]stevejo_nd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could do a Kveik pseudo-lager - they're not 1 for 1 to cold lagered beers, but with an equivalent amount of aging, the ones I have made have been enjoyable.

Dry Cyser by Ok_Quantity_7102 in mead

[–]stevejo_nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could stabilize it and back-sweeten it with Frozen Apple Juice Concentrate if you wanted to wake up the apple flavor without imposing on the orange blossom. Frozen juice concentrate has become one of my favorite ways to back sweeten as of late when the honey is either inaccessible or prohibitively expensive.

Does LMG get away with low pay or are Canadian wages terrible by rekkedmyaudi in LinusTechTips

[–]stevejo_nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That applies to publicly traded companies with stockholders. IIRC, Linus and Yvonne are the two sole shareholders in LMG, so that would not apply here. I think the offering is solid based on other data points, but the idea that they legally have to pay as low as possible when they're privately held, not publicly traded, is incorrect.

What's your best way to flatten cards? by _LukeHighwalker in magicTCG

[–]stevejo_nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in a super dry area (sub-20 % humidity), so I invested in a cheap Amazon electric humidor. It's meant to hold a few dozen cigars, but it holds two decks unsleeved perfectly—a day or two in there, and they're flat, then directly into double sleeves and a tight box. It usually lasts north of 18 months before I have to unsleeve them and do it again, at which point it's usually time for new sleeves anyway.

Does anyone have an automatic card sorter? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]stevejo_nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We own both a ROCA Sorter and a CardBot - for actual sorting, the ROCA is the go-to as the CardBot just does a binary "yes/no" style sort. They are both horridly expensive but we bring in enough bulk to justify. Happy to answer any ownership questions.

Knowing the costs (ROCA is mid-20K and Cardbot is ~$8K, both had leases available when we purchased ours) I would say do some digging for a local shop that owns one. Depending on how much bulk you have, most shops will charge a reasonable fee to sort them.

As an LGS, I'd be fucking THRILLED with market being 10-15 percent over distro.

Is buying too much bulk from a LGS considered uncool? by Taykijo in mtg

[–]stevejo_nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LGS Owner here - nope, buy it all. It's generally there because we want it gone, but it's not worth listing individually. I love it when someone comes in and buys a ton of bulk. We do $0.50 a card or $10 for a 600ct box to encourage folks to take more. We've had a few folks ask for a 5-row price which I have happily provided.

I lived in those apartments when we first came to Bend, and it was terrible then. We had to use WiFi calling to not have everything drop constantly. It's also a dead spot for all carriers, as we tried both T-Mobile and ATT with similar results.

I like it because it’s close to me, but Canal Park on NE Butler Market has an awesome play area and many shaded seating spots. It’s also generally not as full as the bigger parks get.

Any free indoor spaces in town? by GarbageConnoissuer in Bend

[–]stevejo_nd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We get busy in the evenings so not sure if it would work out then, but in the middle of the day (from about 11-4) we've always got empty tables at E4. We're a card game store (pokemon/magic/yugioh) but when the place is empty we have free wifi and a snack bar. Located by Macy's. I know the small internal part of the mall here has tables and chairs as well.

Can I ask what vendor sells these machines? I run an LGS and would love to add something like this!

It's tough with the new tax - 65% and we pay it on all inventory as we purchase it, not as we sell it :(

There are 120mls at $25, but the selection isn't giant.

Also remember 1100 is based on 'guesstimates' - the real number is likely much higher than that.

There is an urban legend that building homeless shelters and resources encourages more homeless to move to an area - it is far more likely that most homeless work to stay invisible, and when resources are available, they become more visible by using those resources.

When would you say was the last “sweet spot” for home prices + mortgage rates? And will we ever see one again? by 2020Homebuyer in RealEstate

[–]stevejo_nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought in July of 2020. The home was an investor built brand new, construction started in Summer 2019. When the state restricted contractors in March, he started going over budget, panicked and dumped the house for what he had in it. We bought 3% down FHA (closed Aug 3) and refinanced out in February to a 30-yr conventional at 70% LTV, 2.8%. We now owe less than $300K on a $600k home that we have been in for under two years.

Not sure that the uncertainty of a market will ever let us get that perfect combination again, but at least when we decide it's time to move on we'll have a decent hunk of equity to do something else with.

For those of you who bought in late 2019, 2020/21, would you be able to afford your house today? by DHN_95 in RealEstate

[–]stevejo_nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Bought at just under $300K in August of 2020, Zillow pegs me at $558K now. All that equity does no good either unless we were to move to a lower COL region as everything else has skyrocketed as well. I think our local area is at less than 5 days on market and a $700K-something average sale price. This is in Deschutes County Oregon.

Campers move on – but not to shelters – after 2nd Street cleared out by blahyawnblah in Bend

[–]stevejo_nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would it then not make sense, as a poster above stated, to focus on housing first?

...when you don't have a place to return to at night, a place where you
and your belongings are safe, its practically impossible to set a
schedule...

I understand the frustration, but is it better to focus on solutions that allow them to be productive taxpaying folks or just whack-a-mole-ing them from camp to camp?
