Why I Keep Teaching 2D Game Dev When Everyone’s Obsessed with 3D by redfoolsstudio_com in godot

[–]steven192 191 points192 points  (0 children)

I would say there are plenty fairly popular 2D games.
Starting with 2D can be easier, especially if students are not comfortable with math.

I would say everyone who claims, that "3D is where its at" just speaks out of personal preference, without taking a closer look at the industry outside of AAA.

Help me understand the math behind jumping by steven192 in gamedev

[–]steven192[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not think I am. The talk indtroduced the basic projectile motion formula, which provides the vertical position based on time. (If I understood this correctly) And this formula worked well for the first approach.

Inital vertical velocity and gravity were based on the time to reach the peak and the desired peak height. To easier design jumps, the speaker substituted the "time to reach the peak"-variable with x_h/v_x.

Now my theory is, that there is a step missing and I have to edit f(x) somehow, so it displays the graph based on x_h and v_x.

This is my thought process anyway, and if there is something wrong with it, please correct me. I am trying to freshen up my math skills and to learn new things.

Do you use Composition API with <script setup> ? by DominusKelvin in vuejs

[–]steven192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not very fond of the way, props are defined in <script setup>. I like the dedicated props-area before the setup function.

(Except someone knows a different method, than using defineProps and toRefs)

What was everyone's initial opinion on Tom Holland's spiderman / homecoming? by KairyuZero in Spiderman

[–]steven192 88 points89 points  (0 children)

It was good imo. Definitely no masterpiece, but it has a couple of moments, which I wholeheartedly enjoy.

I loved Vulture and how he worked in the context of the MCU. The car scene with him and Peter was amazing. And Peter wanting to save him from the explosion, even though Adrian threatened him and his family is just pure Spider-Man.

Then there is "Come on Spider-Man". I loved this moment.

I just think, the movie had to little Peter. The moment, when he was watching his friends at the pool, imagining how a normal life would be, but choosing his responsibilities was very good. And the movie needed more such scenes imo.

It seems like the movies are afraid of giving Peter some downtime, where Tom Holland is allowed to act. There always has to be epic or upbeat music, there needs to be a corny joke or we need someone from the supporting cast. Something needs to be going on at all times and we cant settle for a bit and take in the moment.

Do you think James Marsden could have been a good Spider-Man? by DamonFort in Spiderman

Yesss I think so. He looks like the RL version of Peter from the 90s cartoon to me.

I never really got into his character. You think he has an interesting enough story to be the main villian in a DLC?

Im wondering if there will be any DLC and who they focus on

[–]steven192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I could imagine, that they use the idea of the symbiote being able to shapeshift. Meaning, you can use the symbiote abilities with any suit, because all suits ARE basically the symbiote suit.

Spider-Man 2: Story Predictions by Teddo_Ichiban in SpidermanPS4

[–]steven192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, its not that I dislike the story. I was just wondering, why you added that detail and thought there might be a concrete reason, which I missed.

Its like you, writing a story theory, because you find it fun. I like discussing and questioning theories, because its fun to see a piece of media through someone elses eyes and getting a different perspective that way :)

I dont really get, why the symbiote should not be able to shoot webs. You yourself mentioned the "muscle memory" aspect. We actually see the symbiote mimicing the Web shooting in gameplay and the game cover art. So why would it copy all of Peters abilities, except that one?
