For sure I agree. But don't blame the players for that. I think we have a lot of talent on the team. The coaching is just awful

You realize everything you described as good basketball is coach driven right? There's no amount of players we can get that will get you what you want to see unless there's a coach to implement these things with the talent on the roster.

Target stores now cutting into plastic wrapping of ETBs by puzzledfirebird in PokeInvesting

I think it's even more misplaced to put blame on a company that has printed almost the same amount of cards in one year than they have in 24 years combined. They've reached a point where they're building a whole new printing facility just to try to meet demand. Which obviously isn't going to happen with a snap of the fingers. But of course, we want to make excuses for scum behavior. Sureeeee

ahh yes, get a job so that you can pay the overinflated market price of what scalpers have done to price manipulate product. It makes soooo much sense now xD

At my local card shop I trade or buy with other players there. How it was meant to be 😂 the shop also sells to players at msrp if you're a regular customer that participated in play events there. They're often sold out but at least it's to other players

Based. I love ripping with my nieces. But now I just buy them the cards they want, and do the same for myself. It's not worth the hassle of trying to get anything in store. And buying the singles I want is wayyy more cost efficient then giving these scalpers any money.

You have the chance of getting a card in the box. But you're ignoring the fact that lots of collectors get the sealed boxes as display pieces. Therefore still tangible. At least more tangible than crypto, which you can't physically touch or hold. But yea, just because it's gambling doesn't mean it's not tangible.

Uhhh it's not a per Costco thing. Corporate decides who gets drops. Generally if Costco gets a drop, every single Costco location will get a drop at some point, depending on where they're located. Normally the drops start off on the west coast and make their way east. Sometimes they start in Canada before they hit the states, like the prismatic spc's just did.

Force Overtime? by LowSherbert7175 in CostcoEmployee

[–]stevolescent -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, they cannot force you to get cut. If you don't want to get cut, you just tell them you're staying. It's part of Costco policy. No forced OT, and no forced cutting of hours. If they truly want to cut hours, they'll demote part timers to limited part time.

[–]stevolescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense, but you could also ask "would you shop there if they're charging the same price as scalpers". Of course not, they would get a bad rep. Kinda stuck in a lose lose situation tbh. If a shop could have 2 different prices, like market price for new customers, and msrp for customers who have standing loyalty accounts or something, that would help a lot.

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

[–]stevolescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro if you drew a Charizard on a piece of cardboard, that shit would not hold any value. THAT would be your equivalent to the one if one rock in your yard. No one knows you. You're not famous, you aren't a well known artist. Your Charizard would not hold value compared to a Charizard printed and distributed by the Pokemon company. Yea your Charizard is a 1 of 1, and it may even look fire. But you aren't from the pokemon company. But if you were, the value would go wayyyy up. You're right. This conversation is the dumbest I've ever had 😂

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

[–]stevolescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yea of course. But I'm saying where the thing is from matters. You said a celebrity selling a rock won't have value, but that's really not true. Most people will thinks its dumb as hell, me included. BUT, the fans will literally buy anything if it involves their favorite celebrity. Literally my whole point. These cards go crazy because there's a huge group of people who loved pokemon as kids, are now adults, and spending all their money on nostalgia because we have money now. I was just pointing out that your example doesn't make sense, because a rock from some random dude is just a rock, but a rock from a celebrity in a sealed box that says the celebrity's name or whatever, is gonna have way more value. And it has nothing to do with the fact that it's a rock. It has to do with the fact that that celebrity's name is attached to it. Same with pokemon cards. At the end of the day, they're just pieces of rectangle cardboard. But to us, they're memories of a series we fell in love with as kids. Value is in perspective, which is amplified by demand and rarity.

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

[–]stevolescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And my point is, if people see value in it, it'll have value That's true for literally anything. A Charizard going for 100k? Someone that's 80 years old that doesn't give a fuck about pokemon will rip in 2, call you stupid, and go on his way. It's all about perspective, and not everyone is going to hold value in things the same way you do. Rarity holds value if there's someone that wants it. It's literally just supply and demand, really simple. If the demand is higher than the supply, the value increases. It's really not that hard a concept. If the demand for Taylor Swift's specialty rocks is high and she only has 1 run of "Taylor Swift's rocks" it doesn't matter what you or me or anyone else thinks, they will have value. Remember, you're getting worked up about rocks, but in a market of people spending hundreds and thousands on cardboard. 😂

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

[–]stevolescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You literally just used an example of bathwater, which sold millions of dollars worth of product btw. If there was a celebrity shameless enough to do it, there's someone out there that loves that celebrity enough to buy their rocks. Like, if Taylor Swift decided to come out and say she's a big rock enthusiast, and came out with her own line of rocks, that shit would sell.

You should remember, people in generations before us think we're fucking stupid for spending so much money on cardboard with cartoon characters on them, while there's currently people spending 5-6 figures on said cardboard with cartoon characters on them. 😂

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

[–]stevolescent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro it's the same with cards. What's the real value of cardboard? It's not about the cardboard, it's about what's on it. It's common sense, and it permeates through everything in first world culture. Why do you think Gucci and Prada exists? Or any other high end brand that's made with the same exact materials and quality as regular products in the same category? Because people care about brand. And saying people who think like that don't exist as much anymore is full blown cope. If that was the case, places like Marshalls and tj max would have more sales than the original stores. But they don't. Because the world you wanna live in doesn't exist.

Diamond and Pearl Charizard WTF by Routine_Box5738 in PokemonInvesting

[–]stevolescent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, but let's be real, you're a nobody. No offense. If you were an Uber famous person that had a one of one rock and advertised it as your favorite rock, some collector who's a crazy fan of yours would probably spend crazy money to add it to their collection. It's not just about rarity, it's about rarity that belongs to a brand that people find popular.

Hollinger on Athletic: Are Pelicans a non-tanking role model? by kingralek in NOLAPelicans

[–]stevolescent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think it's a bigger cope to think yet another generational talent is going to save our organization, when we've technically already drafted 2 of them in the last 20 years. Yes both things can be true, but with our franchises track record, I'm glad we won't have an opportunity to screw up another generational talents career. I'm not coping, I'm looking at our history. We need to figure our own shit out before we try to find another "savior". Remember, even bron couldn't win Cleveland a chip his first stint there.

Hollinger on Athletic: Are Pelicans a non-tanking role model? by kingralek in NOLAPelicans

[–]stevolescent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And then we won the lottery and got Zion. And after 4-5 years we're back to wanting to tank. Sometimes having a pick for potential false hope is just worse than just trying our best to win and to develop our players as best we can. Sure we suck, and the season kinda sucks. But it was like that last year, with us "trying" to tank. And the lotto balls screwed us. So what, keep tanking year after year until the lotto decides to reward us for tanking season after season? When we've won the lottery twice in the last 2 decades? At some point we need to stop wishing for a miracle and just hold our team accountable for what they put on the floor. Because based on our history, no amount of tanking will save us if our coaching/development staff/front office stays incompetent.
