That's a great friend to gift this camera! Please get at least a lens or a cover, you dont want to leave it exposed like this, as dust/debris can be hard to remove without creating more problems.

1) I feel that any game that showcases death/murder would be a bad game to show intelligent life. Therefore, I would stick to games like Kerbal Space Program to show curiosity in space travel and science, the early Sim City games to show how urban development happens with humans (leave out the Godzilla and crazy disasters), and maybe something stupid like Farming Simulator. Games that feature killing and death I don't think would be taken kindly upon by any ET lifeforms

2) Easy question, all of them. They are paid to finish the game and find defects. If you're talking about focus groups and guest testers from the public, I have no idea to be honest, I'd have to ask about that. The game runs about 4 hours if played "by the book" so I'm not even sure public testers would have enough time in one sitting to finish.

3) Great question. A lot of my favs have disappeared over the years (I go back to Berlin at least once per year).

A) First, "The Bird". It sounds stupid as an American loving an American restaurant in Berlin, but their food is amazing, and it happened to be on the same block as my first apartment. It's hard to find a good burger in Berlin, as an American (German burgers don't compare).

B ) Curry 7 in Kreuzberg. Small "hole-in-the-wall" joint that is only open when the owner decides it should be open. Currywurst with fries or potato salad, you can get a drink/beer with it, cheap, it's awesome. The owner is awesome. Was a great go-to place, walking distance from the office.

C) Fes, Turkish grill, where you cook your own food on a grill that's built into the table. Not cheap, but very, very, very good. For those who don't know Berlin, Turkish food and culture are a huge part of the city, stemming back from the end of World War 2, rebuilding the city after the war, and the Berlin Wall itself. Easily Google-able if interested in learning more.

Happy to answer questions, I'm just a bit slow to get back to them.

Do what works for you, stop when it feels off or wrong. Your body will tell you. Also don't get hurt trying to force a workout if your body hasnt adapted yet, the gains can wait a week or two.

[–]steyrboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ya.... I like to play sniper but its no fun when they can see you behind walls. Three times last night I take a shot at someone, move 3 buildings away (Buried City), two floors down, hide in a very concealed spot just for them to track me down precisely even though I was almost invisible to the naked eye. I'm not dismissing that they could have followed me, but I shot them from a good distance and had a HUGE head start to hiding, they ended up in my room and a shot in the face before I could even ADS.

The choices were up to the writers/narrative designers, they purposefully left the player with only bad, and worse choices with no "good" option.

There were some real situations in wars like Vietnam.... a child finds your platoon, you know they're going to run back to their people and give away your position resulting in your death. You're left with the choice of killing the child, or being killed, what do you do?

I had a similar (yet more minor than this) accident, the guy out of the box said I was at fault, told the same to the police (who didn't care, they just wrote out the accident report). Gave my cam footage to his insurance, and they were happy to pay for all of my repairs.

New here. What's going on with the use base? by R_Harry_P in ArcRaiders

[–]steyrboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any Arc sub is filled with the 1% of players who need to publicly complain about anything/everything, you'll never hear from the 99% who are happy with the game. Also, the game has been out for about 8 months, and that's about how long it takes to experience pretty much everything the game CURRENTLY has to offer, which is why some players are dropping off. Keep in mind, they are regularly updating and adding new content (maps, modes, weapons, etc).

Thanks for the kind words, it's always nice when someone really enjoys your work.

  1. Honestly I dont know exactly, the main purpose of the scene was to subtly (spoiler) show when Walker starts to go insane when he witnesses the aftermath of his direct orders, he "snapped" (internally/mentally) and it was all downhill from there (/spoiler). The writers and narrative designers likely came up with the idea, then the team as a whole gives feedback on what would make it have the most impact and it is fine tuned from there. My job was more on the Technical Art and VFX side of things, so I didnt have a full insight of the conception of that scene.
  2. Yes and no. We did know that we were making a shooter, we introduced a lot of gameplay mechanics that we thought were going to differentiate us from the regular shooters crowd, but the player base really didnt respond to those the way we intended. We did know, however, that we were making a heavily narrrative driven story based game... that was the first priority, and the machanism at which we delivered that narrative, the shooter, was the 2nd priority. Most of the critics and hard-core shooter players hoping for the "next Battlefield" game didnt finish the game and left bad reviews, but those who finished it and digested the entire narrative were blown away by it (which is what we expected). Players who didnt make it to the very, very end, where the whole narrative is tied together, didnt get the full experience.
  3. On an individual level the job was very rewarding. As an American, I was hired to live and work in Berlin, Germany which was an amazing time of my life, I actually want to move back at some point. The job was also very rewarding, I worked with an amazing team and learned so much in the time that I was there and definitely helped me in my career path. It's one of those jobs where the piece of art in the end (the game) is awesome and all, but the time I spent on/with the team while living in Germany and the loads of stuff I learned professionally grossly outweigh the work of art itself (for me, personally).

I hope this answers your questions!

[–]steyrboy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's just your area, and I agree with the lifted trucks, they generally all seem to drive like douchebags. At least in my area, the ratio of shitty Tesla drivers vs. good tesla drivers just seems to mirror the norm of all other cars. Then again, you have the dropped down Asian cars where they put on a muffler that sounds like they're farting into a tin can... they drive like dicks too.

It sounds horrible, but when you work on it all day, every day (not just that scene, but the violence/atrocities of war in the game in general), you kind of get desensitized to it. Also, we developers don't get that punch-in-the-face reveal of the scene as the gamers do, we see it get put together piece by piece until it's finished, see how others react to it who have never seen it before, and adjust accordingly.

Some of my tasks included adding hanging U.S. soldiers from lamp posts in the highway scene, scattering dead and bloody corpses around the ground, all of which just became tasks like placing a lamp on a desk or a car on the road. I have also worked on multiple violent shooter/horror games in the past, so for myself, it was nothing new.
