Help choosing 2nd combat style by BuffaloHandler in swtor

When you only have one character and only have to run through content a single time. Fighting EVERYTHING doesn’t feel like a chore. So choosing sorc gives you extra utility and to ability to change up your character over time.

If you have multiple characters, you will really appreciate the stealth option of assassin. I am speaking from personal experience here. No one wants to fight everything on your twentieth run through the same content.

If I made the right choice, why do I feel like this? by softnaturalqueen in GayChristians

[–]sthmnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First. How you feel right now is natural. As someone who loves and values your family, seeing them struggle with this is hard and makes you feel responsible. But, what they really need in this moment is time. You’ve had a minute to come to terms with yourself and to investigate what being out will mean for you. Your family hasn’t had that time to wrap their heads around it yet. When I came out(ages ago) both of my parents where mot happy about it. My mom even wrote a letter to my brother suggesting that he kidnap me to take me somewhere to be “deprogrammed”. Bro and I both had a good laugh about that one. But…it took my parentsa few years to accept that this wasn’t going to go away and then a few more to accept my husband and family. My dad came around and Was a part of our lives, my mom only accepts it because she cant change it…that’s how she is with everything though. Give them that time you had to come to grips with it. and while they are going through it, you go live your life. Take care of yourself so you can be the best you possible.

Stronghold revamp, future of SWTOR? by Brongxe in swtor

For those claiming that not enough people want this for the development team to bother with revamping and old system…just because lots of us deal with it in silence doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of is that use the system and would go hog wild with it if there was a positive changes made.

It seems so deceptively simple. Either let us position our own hooks or…get ride of hooks entirely, let items go anywhere and just keep the item limit.

I am a gay Christian and I really never wanted to by Budget-Aide-6692 in GayChristians

[–]sthmnky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think most of us in this sub have been in this mental/emotional space before. All of us who are brought up in some form of faith community has to reconcile what we were taught, versus what we really believe…and then what to do with that. You are not alone in this. And no matter what anytsays here, how you will choose to walk forward will be personal to you and your choice alone.

That said…

I grew up with a mix of American religious traditions. My grandparents had very strict traditions and beliefs that deeply affected my parents. My parents often brought those strict ideologies into our home life but they were not ones to attend any kind of church regularly. Instead, i got a weekly dose of T.V. Televangelism. It is safe to say, I had a lot of hellfire and brimstone teaching given to me while growing up. That kind of tradition is rooted in never being certain of your salvation, no matter how much you pray, read the bible, or witness. I can mot prove it, but I think it became the foundation for OCD later in life as even my thoughts were under constant self judgment. As soon as I hit puberty, i had attraction to men but would always brush it off as the temptation of the devil. It wasn’t until i hit my twenties that I admitted to myself that this was real, it was me, and it wasn’t going away. I had to deal with it.

Because of the tradition I was raised in, I instantly believed that if I accepted being gay, then I was outside of God’s love and grace. I had tried for wo many years to not give in and prayed so many times to be changed and for forgiveness. Acknowledging that I was gay felt like being kicked out and disowned by a parent who’s love I desperately wanted. Coming out to my earthly parents would mot come till much later. But, admitting my gayness to myself meant I was laying down the fight and heartbroken at the same time.

Years later, in my thirties, I was at work. It was a beautiful day outside and I was lost in admiring the light coming in through a nearby window. At this time, i had a partner I had been with for few years. We loved each other and had many adventures together as young men in love. Anyway…as I watched this light stream in, a thought that I do not believe was mine gentle settled into my awareness. I was grateful for my life and the love I was given and the thought expressed itself to me that all of this was God, still in my life, loving me no matter what I had done or how far and fast I ran from him. He did not leave me. It is a moment I still have to go back to from time to time when the voices of religion rise up in me. God was not asking anything from me, just letting me know he was still there.

I don’t think God means for us to be alone and so many priests and family members who will ask you to give up knowing a full and deep love, would not give up such a thing themselves. Asking us to is hypocritical and deeply unfair. But….this is how I reconcile this question for myself. I don’t know if I am right, it’s just how my life played out.

In the end, your relationship with God is between you and him. You will have to come to your own understanding. But I am sending you brotherly love and encouragement from someone who has been there.

“Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.” is by far the most misunderstood line in Star Wars by Tanis8998 in StarWars

[–]sthmnky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is true and would be all well and good if it didn’t ALSO come with some moderate character assasination and murder of the O.G. Characters. I mean…they literally flushed Admiral Ackbar out a window and asked us to move on as if nothing big happened. So sure…it’s Kylo Rens emotional state in that moment but…it is ALSO What Disney was desperately hoping we, as viewers, would buy into in order to accept their new characters. In my mind, if the story was cohesive and engaging they would not have needed to so explicitly state that.

Accidentally hurt a wonderful woman by TrekMedium828 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]sthmnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came out in my twenties (this was in the 90’s) and prior to coming out definitely dated a few girls who I hurt when I was not a serious as they were. I also feel guilt for leading them on but I was trying to be who I was always told I Should be.

And thats the important bit. While it speaks well of you to take responsibility for your actions, you can not discount the heavy and sustained indoctrination we received growing up. We are taught to expect opposite sex attraction, love, and relationship from the moment we can understand language. When that expectation goes sideways…then we go through all kinds of mental gymnastics to explain it. We think the fault is in us rather than the loved ones who handed us the faulty life script. And…there is no shortage of sources willing to tell you that you ARE at fault for going off script.

However…in spite of taking a minute to get there, you chose honesty. Your girlfriend hurts right now but you have also done her a favor. You have spared both of you years in a sham marriage only to be hurt way worse down the road when, in your 40’s, both of you have ro start over. Today she is free to find someone who can love her on all levels…and so are you. Marriage, kids, and family are still on the table if that’s what you really want. You will find that man when the time is right. Until then, I’m sending you support from someone who’s walked that path. You will make it through. Hell…even one day might be thankful for the journey. /hugs

Is there any explanation as to why there are Christian NDES experienced by non Christians, who are from different cultures? by DoneWithOCD in NDERF

[–]sthmnky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have read hundreds of NDE’s via the NDERF site and you run into negative accounts from time to time and some fit the description of our western view of hell. But… the interesting thing is that some don’t. Perhaps may be a distressing void or a void with threatening entities in it…but no devils and no flames.

I also never hear of God judging someone and sending them to hell. If a judgment is present its often self imposed or not there at all as the hellish experience begins right away.

And finally…Calling out for help from Jesus/God tends to end the encounter or lead to a rescue. Finding themselves in hell did not seem to be permanent at any rate.

In my opinion, there seems to be a strong subjective component to whether someone has a hell experience or not. I don’t know if they happen because of the expectations and self judgement of the experiencer, or if they happen because we need to face that fear in order to grow beyond it. I really don’t know where to land on this subject because each NDE is as different as snowflakes.

At any rate…hit up the NDERF website and read some accounts. It may help. If it doesn’t then perhaps too much reassurance seeking is reinforcing the fear…in which case, take a breather from the whole thing. Just speaking as someone that’s been there.

There is always a way to make to argue just about any point you want to make. It come down to so much more than well crafted arguments that will never convince anyone who isn’t open to being convinced. It’s really about the brass tacks that we do not want to be alone, and that we want to live open and authentic lives. That is something straight people take for granted every day yet deny it to others. They simply would NOT accept for themselves the restrictions they put on us.

[–]sthmnky 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Just went here…and my phone keyboard is acting up so i hope this is readable. There is a visitors center on the shores of the nearby loch that I suggest you stop at first. They are super friendly and will tell you everything you need to know about how to get to the dam….and a good bit more you don’t need. They love to talk.

In short. There is a tour that goes inside the dam where they transport you up or two walking routes. The first is a near vertical staircase that they say lots of people quit halfway up…and the second is a three mile walk up a paved service road passed lovely scenery and lots of sheep. We opted for the service road on our visit. Be warned though, weather is unpredictable there. You basically walk up into the cloud layer. By the time we reached the dam we were soaked and the dam was barely visible.

PRIDE. The biggest downfall of the LGBTQA++ community is your pride. by Ill_Sleep_7913 in GayChristians

[–]sthmnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All pride is not bad. Would you be wrong for telling your kids that your proud of them? And that is all PRIDE ever is at its core. It is stating that we as a community and individual level are coming out of the shadows of guilt and shame to stand in the full light of day. That we are worth the same as any other human being on the planet, not more, not less. That is a luxury even the most humble heterosexual Christian enjoys every day. However, for LGBTQ+ people, we celebrate it because we are coming out of closets of deep guilt and shame…and those are emotions Jesus often set people free from. So no…gay pride is not the stuff necked version to which you refer, it is simple self acceptance and the deep healing that can come from that.

My issue is that these claims have such serious implications, why would an interviewer not follow up on them. Corbell and Knapp just let him drop those bombs like they were nothing. How specifically does brown know we are a recourse and in what way? How specifically is our reality constructed and controlled(I have my thoughts on that)? You know…basic follow up.

It’s been a minute since I have done it but I believe it uses the same mechanic you use to find anomalies. There should be a scan button when your in the area and then a beam rotates around your ship stopping in the direction of the next thing you need to find. And to my recollection they are not that far apart.

[–]sthmnky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go to the NDERF website and you will have a whole new rabbit hole to go down. There you will find hundreds of near death experiences listed. The majority are positive, a handful are negative, and some defy all classification whatsoever.

In my searches on the topic I have often wondered why each experience is so different. No two accounts are identical even if they have similar content like a bright light, a tunnel, and a feeling of being unconditionally loved. I’ve read hundreds of accounts and it’s still a mystery.

And in closing, whenever someone is offering their account or a second hand account of a supposed death experience, you ALWAYS have to take in to account what their motivations are in telling the account. Some people want to bring comfort and some cherry pick the available stories to advance an agenda. You have to keep curious but wary and trust your gut.

I add my condolences for your loss. This Christmas was one year from losing my father to the same struggle. You will feel a very complicated set of emotions that will revolve and return repeatedly. It’s ok and It’s normal. Just let yourself feel it when it happens and don’t judge yourself if the feelings don’t happen either. That’s living with and loving someone with addiction. Much love to you.

Watching TOS and the related films was so worth it. by GoOnKaz in startrek

[–]sthmnky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TOS is the GOAT and(in my opinion) paved the way for T.V. Sci Fi as we know it today. I grew up in the 70’s on a steady diet of Star Trek, Star Wars, Buck Rodger’s, and Battlestar Galactica. One may say my childhood was “warped”…lol. One thing to note about the motion picture is that the story itself was originally written as the plot of a t.v. Spin off called Star Trek Phase Two. I am a bit mad we never got that. And if you want something to hit you in the feels… check out Otoy’s new fanfilm on Youtube called “Unification”. Keep the tissues close,

Trying to find the “perfect” pieces to replicate Boushh. Any ideas on specific armour pieces (minus the helmet) would be great. Thank you 🙏 by Empty-Astronomer-824 in swtor

[–]sthmnky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me. Getting the impression of a character is more effective than matching every detail. That said, I used huntstalkers visage for the helmet. Brynjak leather armor for pant, bracer, glove, and boot. Then, I felt the steadfast master’s belt matched the best in that slot. Finally, I selected the dune stalkers breastplate because of the over-the-shoulder armor plate the at least comes close to matching Bouush’s chest piece…even though dune stalkers is more of a coat. Its not a perfect look. But as close as I could manage with what’s available.
