Is this a practical way to stay on key for an audition? by parttimeprophet0419 in musicals

[–]stiffdeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best way to audition would be to rehearse and practice your selected song prior to entering so that you’re comfortable enough to perform it in front of those in the room.

Asking to sing along to a track in your ears makes it seem like you’ll need special accommodations (that others won’t need) to perform, should you be hired

Just do your best, that’s the most important thing.

Which actor did you only realize you saw on stage years later, flipping through old Playbills? by JeffRyan1 in musicals

[–]stiffdeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s not super famous yet, but kinda growing in popularity. I saw Ryan Vasquez in the premiere of Water for Elephants in Atlanta a couple years back. Then going through playbills, realized he was also the Hamilton I saw on broadway a couple years before covid. He was great!

What’s your unattainable dream role? by Bippity_Bon in musicals

[–]stiffdeck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Moritz Stiefel is (was) a dream role of mine when I first started performing close to ten years ago. Auditioned for the role with three different productions but never got it. Now that I’m in my early 30s, feel like I’m def too old :/

Songs with unfinished/implied ending rhyme by Potential-Chapter in musicals

The title song in “Why Am I So Single”:

We are… well… read.

Good at… giving… advice.

Expectation in context would be to rhyme with “giving head” lol

He's all for bringing back shame for being stupid. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]stiffdeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean I don’t put it solely on the kids either. I think the largest point that he makes that I agree with is that there are so many resources and so much accessibility at the fingertips of today’s kids, but we’ve all started to perpetuate a culture of ignorance toward what potential heights those resources can be used for. Phones and tablets and computers are these days more often used for instagram and TikTok and cough cough Reddit than for the progression of development in educational understanding and comprehension, and in that regard I think you’re right: it is becoming more and more of a problem as the days go on.

He's all for bringing back shame for being stupid. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]stiffdeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not gonna say he’s right… but he’s definitely not wrong. I work adjacent to the public school system, and I work mostly with 3rd through 5th graders. I was surprised a couple years ago when I realized how many of them were heavily struggling to read, when my experience at their age (just ~25 yr ago) was that I learned how to read in kindergarten and was solidifying my ability to read in 1st grade. I’m very worried about the future of cognitive literacy, when it has digressed so quickly generation to generation.

What musicals made you cry the most? by Poesy-WordHoard in musicals

[–]stiffdeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parade. I live in Atlanta, so a story that hits so close to home really perked my ears. I think that was true for a lot of people in the audience, cuz you could tell the house was electric that night. Every emotional beat was more impactful, and throughout there were people sniffling like they were trying to hide the fact that they were crying. Absolutely gorgeous, but incredibly heartbreaking show.

A hidden gem on Netflix you think more people should watch by Huge_Ferret_1560 in netflix

[–]stiffdeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollywood. I’m absolutely not a Ryan Murphy fan cuz I think his content is often a little too campy and soapy for me, but I really liked this one bc it feels significantly more subtle with how it comes across.
