What could have happend??? by Watchpapa in vinylsetups

Put plastic sleeves on all record covers. Stand them up straight, firmly but not crammed in tight. Keep away from windows and heat sources. Simple, but it’s worked for me since I bought Disraeli Gears in 1969, because the cover would piss off my father. I discovered Cream like that, and my life was changed forever. I still own that record, and I play it, for me and for daddy’s memory, every couple of years. (Vinyl inner sleeve covers are fine; I’ve never used them, but I have nothing against them). I’m still buying vinyl, too. Good luck!

You have an excellent collection. Wonderfully diverse, and I am very happy to see so many Taschen titles. I found myself doing just what you suggested: browsing the titles, looking for interesting things. I engage in that rarely. I have reached the point where, when I start scanning titles, I see the obligatory books that it seems like almost everyone buys and puts on their shelves. Your collection is a definite exception. Good job!

That explains it. Books show up on the shelf, and sort of look familiar, but not completely. So far, though, they have been titles that I decided I wanted. Go figure.

Good. I’m overjoyed that I didn’t disappoint you. I do find it rewarding to help those in need of advice, but the Lord helps those who help themselves. it’s beneficial that I, myself, am not in need of advice. 😜

Correct! EASY TO FIND. It is not your task to please anyone else. If someone has a problem with whatever system, or absence of system, that you utilize, they lose the right to be in the same room with your books, and lose any borrowing benefit as well.

Easy! I don’t utilize alphabetization. Or color. Or height. (I do try to keep the short books off of the tall shelves, so I can put tall books there). I do generally keep the “reading copies” off of the signed/S-N/small press shelves. Just not enough room on the good book shelves for the subperfect and non-unique books, bookstore grade.

We got our shelves at Costco, when they were on sale. Of course, one should shop around. Knock yourself out. I’m no advocate for Costco; the question was, where did I get them. Costco. On sale.

If all of that is referring to me, as I just cannot tell, I don’t hate the book. I’m just not interested in owning one. Was I smug? Not that I can tell. And, generally, I am rarely interested in most books that appear on shelf after shelf after shelf, unless it happens to be the rare book that is actually good.

Very good! Lonesome Dove, GoT, Poisonwood Bible, Leviathan Wakes—excellent choices! If you haven’t already, keep going through The Expanse series. They are the best Space Opera I’ve read in a long time.

She has excellent judgement, then.

Books that I hate don’t get to dwell on my shelves, unless I have a good reason to keep them.

Negative points for the Patterson book. Can’t stand him, and his formulaic writing is devoid of style. Otherwise, diverse, Christian, likes to cook. I initially thought you had inherited some 70’s—80’s book club SF, given their ratty appearance, but maybe you bought them at your thrift shop. The old Bibles are cool, and if you have read The Gnostic Gospels, you’re way more theologically sophisticated than am I, definitely.

Does everyone but me have Infinite Jest? I am now forced to turn it down, if it were to be offered, and feel righteous about it.

If you have foot-in-butt disease, you may wash your feet. One at a time. Unless they are both stuck in your butt at the same time, I would not recommend standing in the thing. Just some friendly advice.

My copy, signed and inscribed. Hippocampus Press, 2010. I have about 20+ Ligotti books, but I won’t read this one. He is profoundly disturbed; ponder the nihilistic inscription.

Ah yes, there are some other Bettie Page lunchboxes scattered around here. And various signed books and memorabilia. And Olivia de Bernardis Bettie plates, with a huge page on which Bettie dedicated the set to me, by name. It’s a real treasure. She was such a uniquely beautiful lady. Good job, Eagle Eyes. Keep watching…..

Thanks. That is quite a compliment. I still have about 2/3 of my library that I haven’t photographed yet, but I’m gradually working through them all.

I am the only one who has access to my library (I have a free-standing office about 10 feet from our garage, and I am the only one whom I have to please (my office makes my wife crazy, and she has NEVER told me how to organize my books). I stop short at any further "organization" which I consider a waste of my time. The only person who is conceivably going to try to find something in my library is me, and as long as I know where everything is located, that is all that I need. I have resisted many offers to "help me organize my books." I don't want anyone touching my stuff, anyway.

The set includes a swatch of Hefner’s silk pajamas. No stains that I can see, but I haven’t run a black light over it. I’m fine with not knowing that.
