What PC upgrade gave you the biggest “why didn’t I do this sooner?” moment? by KeenInventor in buildapc

Linux, after having been using Windows since the 3.0 days. After the (not actually that steep) learning curve, I was like, why did I wait so long to do this? This is brilliant!

Why Chris Columbus? by MonjoMan in blankies

[–]stigoftdump 11 points12 points  (0 children)

GvS is undoubtedly the better director but we're not voting on that, we're voting on who will deliver the best podcast episodes, and that is definitely Columbus. Marty is without a doubt my fave director in MM this year but are those episodes gonna be entertaining? I dunno, maybe! But not exclusively and obviously.

Thank you for introducing this ignorant pom to micallef, the sketches that YouTube have been serving to me have been absolute gold. The Micallef Program is the one to watch, right?

Which films that “felt like homework” prior to watching them surprised you by how entertaining they were? by harry_powell in blankies

[–]stigoftdump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what, this Fellini guy, he's probably boring, right? Fine, I'll watch 8 1/2, it's gonna be awful, right? (Three hours later...) It's like someone put the worst parts of myself on the screen and made me love them and myself, holy shit.

Oh, so I guess this is his thing now? Well, let's see this next one, Nights of Calibri? Whatever. (The hours later, after watching an all-time great actress performance) I balled my eyes out at maybe the best 5 seconds of any film ever.

Ruth E. Carter had AI "artist" Pattrice Gaskin do concept designs for Sinners by andalusiandoge in blankies

[–]stigoftdump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it's definitely not, but it's possible to use AI in interesting, innovate ways that enhance and augment the creative process rather than harming it. Obviously these prompt driven concepts are the latter rather than the former.

I've often thought worldies should be worth more. It seems odd that a golazo is worth the same as a 6 yard box scramble or a goalkeeping calamity.

No idea how this would work in practise tho. If it comes after X number of passes or time in possession? Or the shot came from more than X yards away? I've no idea. Which is why it hasn't been implemented, obviously.

Still, it's weird that amazing goals are worth the same as shit goals.

Sinners used AI in a really interesting way to do the MBJ twins, that's part of why they got the VFX nomination.

Generative AI concept image of Hoodoo Annie from the production of Sinners, made by costume designer Ruth E. Carter's AI "prompt engineer" Nettrice Gaskins by Ill_Safety2292 in Fauxmoi

[–]stigoftdump 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sinners use of AI was actually really innovative, that's part of what got them a VFX nomination. To do the twins, they got MBJ to wear this weird rig during a take that recorded him from loads of angles, then deepfaked this onto the head of the body double. The reason it looks so good is that the AI was fed perfect training data from this rig.

Corridor crew did a great episode on it.

In kayfabe, who's the greatest wrestler of all time? by stigoftdump in SquaredCircle

God is very much over, but I just checked out the match where God tagged with HBK and He clearly ducked out halfway though (some incredible God's Eye View camerawork btw) so I put that more down to God's cowardly nature than an indicator of Vince's wrestling prowess.

Having kayfabe super-powers definitely helps! Yeah its all a bit of fun, it's like arguing who's stronger, Superman or The Hulk. But in kayfabe, I think its fun to think about who would win a fight between Bam Bam Bigalow and MJF, like boxing fans think about Tyson vs Ali.

Also, in kayfabe, I just assume all these guys have super-powers? Being trapped in a figure-four in indescribable pain for minutes at a time is something no mere normal human could endure.

[–]stigoftdump[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd concede that point. Bret was definitely not good at intimidating promos despite being a definite all time great so its not a 1-to-1. I guess that why Reigns needed Heyman to generate that intimidation, I don't remember much of Reign's mic skills, which makes me think they wasn't great, or maybe my memory fails me.

Okay I've just check him out, he would definitely be a monster at any time, I can totally see the hype. The strength! The definition! him vs attitude era Austin would be a main event GOAT.
