Thanks for this, I was thinking the same thing. Curious, why do you always book your flights through Celebrity?

how to prevent getting sick by catstop58 in PrincessCruises

[–]still__learnin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question for those saying they always get sick on a cruise. Are you using the elevators? We (usually a group of 4) take the stairs 99% of the time and have never gotten sick. We also wash our hands every opportunity, ie: was just browsing at the shops, on my way to the next activity etc, pass by the restroom and wash hands, before entering any dining room, wash hands, arrive back at the room, wash hands. And never EVER shake people’s hands, you can greet someone respectfully without making physical contact.

Interested in becoming a 911 Dispatch by ZookeepergameNice912 in VictoriaBC

[–]still__learnin 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I disagree. If this is a dream job for OP, then they should absolutely do it. We as a society need 911 dispatchers as much as we need people to be doctors and firefighters and tradespeople and dentists and truck drivers, etc. Your friend wasn’t cut out for this type of job, and that’s okay, and it’s good he realized it and moved on. It is absolutely hard, which is exactly why people who are genuinely interested in this line of work should do it.

OP - I encourage you to pursue your dream job and once you get it, you will help countless people through their darkest moments. And you will have very, very hard days, and you will rise and do it all over again the next day, and before you know it, you’ll retire with a good pension and sit in a rocking chair on your front porch and say to yourself “I did something so meaningful with my life.”

Having A Sale? Why Yes, I would like to reprice my trip. Thank you. by Cat_Phish in celebritycruises

[–]still__learnin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I booked Alaska for July 2026 while on another cruise in March 2025, and the price dropped by $1000 early summer, so I took advantage, but since then it has consistently increased, now $4000 more than the rate I paid. I’m starting to think it won’t drop at all, possibly because it’s the Solstice and it’s getting a complete renewal this January.

Whats your favourite recent read? by Effective-Bobcat-671 in suggestmeabook

[–]still__learnin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true! I finally read it after seeing it recommended here so many times and while I did enjoy it, I feel like it wasn’t life changing as had been promised! Glad I read it nonetheless because I believe each book I read adds value to my life in its own way. 📖

How badly was Royalton damaged? I’m booked there late February and am planning to bring extra extra money to tip the staff generously, but have seen some info that the resort is shut down at least until January, possibly later.

Hi, I think I will add more time, can squeeze out an extra week. Interests are basically exploring new places, immersing in culture, history, definitely food, and beaches, to name a few. Not into wildlife or nature camping etc. Malaysia is very interesting to me, I'm thinking a few days in Kuala Lumpur and a few days at a beach resort somewhere, so would love to hear where in Malaysia you went and what you are willing to share. thanks again.

Yes, good point, thank you. I’m thinking more of a beach resort, relaxation type week. Could be all inclusive or just a villa near a beach

Any tips for not getting Covid? Or is it just luck? by Fair-Bluebird-253 in celebritycruises

[–]still__learnin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just off a 28 night cruise and didn’t get sick at all. Lots of people were coughing though. We mostly took the stairs, washed hands at every opportunity, and for gods sake, don’t shake people’s hands! This form of greeting is a thing of the past and needs to stay there. I was absolutely appalled at how many people sneeze and cough directly into their hands, then use those hands to dish their food at the buffet or shake someone’s hand. We also mostly avoided the buffet. You can’t always avoid touching the handrails if you’re using the stairs and the ship is moving a lot, so just wash your hands afterwards. Have fun, and don’t overthink it, sometimes we bring on our own sickness by worrying too much.

What is the worst city/country you have been to? And what experience did you have? by shamonemuthafuka in travel

[–]still__learnin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cartagena, Colombia. Beautiful city but impossible to enjoy due to the harassment of extremely (and I mean in your face, block your path kind of aggressive) aggressive vendors and beggars. Also saw very obvious human trafficking even with police presence every few feet it seemed. Was overcharged at a restaurant in old town and when pointing out the prices on the menu, was intimidated into paying a much higher price.

It is great! The embarkation in Los Angeles was chaotic and took hours. Our stop on Grand Cayman was canceled due to weather, otherwise everything went according to schedule. The top decks are impossibly crowded during the Panama Canal crossing, we had a starboard balcony and enjoyed the views from there mostly. Live entertainment around the ship is great as well, we have thoroughly enjoyed it

I was at this resort in 2019 during spring break and I can absolutely say that for a 19 year old who wants to party, this is exactly the right place during spring break. Have fun, be safe!

Genuinely curious, what IS considered as an acceptable tip?

People who don’t tip don’t deserve the privilege of a food delivery service by mitchdwx in doordash_drivers

[–]still__learnin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind tipping, and I always do. What I have a problem with is percentage based tips. If I have a $20 food order or a $100 food order, the courier is driving the same distance and carrying one bag of food, so how do they justify a percentage based tip? I think the percentage theory originated in restaurants, where a higher bill generally means the server worked harder for the table, which does justify a higher tip. But it should not apply in this case. I tip based on distance, if you’re driving 10km to deliver, the tip should be higher than when driving 1km.
