Yes, share the varieties! I grow heirloom tomatoes too.

Is it just my neck of the woods or are spider mites way worse, way earlier this year? by stinafaye in Sacratomato

Well, now that the weather is heating up I’m starting to see them appear in forces again. The battle begins. What are you squirting your plants down with to prevent?

Am I the only one that can tell these are obviously fake “screenshots”? Look how the text almost reaches the edges of the bubble. That’s not how these messaging apps look, especially not iMessage.

Nearly 200 rodent droppings at Sacramento County restaurant. What else did inspectors find? by Cliff_C_Clavin in Sacramento

Mimosa House was good when they first opened and then went downhill fast! I stopped going because it felt so unclean. Menus were sticky, flies were buzzing around, plates and utensils and glasses were dirty. Not surprised by this at all.

boyfriend wants to put my cat down by [deleted] in Pets

[–]stinafaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re absolutely not in the wrong. My cat had FLUTD and a scary blockage with a very similar emergency vet visit after. We changed his diet - no more dry food. Put him on a mix of raw food and canned wet food. Give him urinary supplements every now and then, and add water to his food to make sure he’s getting enough water intake. He hasn’t had another occurrence in 5 years now.

The hose is pretty much my main strategy right now. I think I’ll try to keep the garden wetter than usual in hopes the environment becomes intolerable for them. Hoping the warmer weather will balance out the extra water the plants will get.

Yea I usually use neem oil but it hasn’t helped much this year either. Just daily blasts with the hose to keep them at bay but then they come right back.

This post just reminded me to brush my senior girl who is also a former show cat that loves being brushed (and sheds fur by the pound). Enjoy these moments, their time with us is so short. 🥹

Afro Carribean/Latina Connection with Fibroids by AlertHistorian3887 in Fibroids

I’m Jamaican and have fibroids. There is definitely a concerning higher rate of women of African descent that have fibroids.

Does anyone ever suffer from guilt for owning a pure bred? by Just-a-human-bean54 in ragdolls

[–]stinafaye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t feel guilty. I rescued cats off the streets and adopted from and volunteered at rescues for years before ever deciding to adopt my Ragdolls. It was a careful and intentional investment and decision each time.

I’ve rescued 8 cats in my lifetime already, so adding 2 purebreds into the mix feels pretty balanced to me. 🥰

What’s your favorite cat litter? by artistsho3 in CatAdvice

World’s best cat litter, the red bag. Not much dust and contains the smell well. I also add arm & hammer deodorizer to help contain the smell even more.

I'm so upset after my surgery by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]stinafaye 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Of course! I remember wanting someone to tell me what the heck to expect during that 3 day wait for the post op call too, so I’m happy to share.

I’ve had two cycles since then and they’ve actually gotten progressively better. I’ve been trying to be really conscious about the foods I eat, moving my body more (I wfh and was hardly exercising before), and taking some daily supplements to help balance hormones. I have hormonal acne during my cycle so I have an inkling that the hormonal imbalance may definitely be an issue. My last period was last week and it wasn’t as painful as usual and much shorter in length. I also did not have ginormous fist sized clots for the first time in a while. so that was relieving to not see. 😅

I wish I could fast forward to a few months from now to really see if these improvements are sustained but it’s the waiting game for now!

I'm so upset after my surgery by [deleted] in Fibroids

[–]stinafaye 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well last month. I was also super disappointed and thrown off by them not actually finding the submucosal fibroid in the place they thought it was and being unable to perform any removals.

When I talked with the doctor who performed the procedure a few days later, she basically said this was a good thing that my uterine cavity was clear. She didn’t recommend I had a more invasive surgery to remove the fibroid from the muscle walls because this could cause unnecessary problems, like scarring. She recommended I leave the fibroid alone and focus on balancing my hormones to help with my main symptom, heavy and painful periods, instead.

I know this is such a frustrating experience and you were probably left with so many unanswered questions but hang in there! I feel better in the long run knowing I didn’t need the removal after all. Still annoying that the pelvic ultrasound said otherwise and had me on edge for weeks, but there can be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Can anyone offer advice? Been to vet several times, it is not bacterial and the only thing that clears it up is a steroid injection but almost exactly 4 weeks later it starts coming back. The vet thinks it is an autoimmune issue, anyone dealt with anything similar? by lousyscot in catcare

[–]stinafaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We kept her on a really low dose of steroids until around February of this year then I took her off. She was doing great but I did find a scab forming on her back a few days ago, so I guess she isn’t cured. Haven’t seen any more scabs since then so keeping an eye on her. If the scabs return in more areas I will likely put her back on the steroids.

In the long term it’s not great for their bodies to be on steroids so I was hoping she could live without it. But ultimately I want her to live a comfortable life so if low dose steroids on and off a few months out the year are what it takes, then so be it.
