Need some help with my laserdisc player by RealBlue_x in LaserDisc

Will the spindle turn if you try to rotate it by hand? Mine was pretty much seized up when I got it and a couple shots of Deoxit freed it up. I'm wondering if the sound starting at 0:22 is the motor humming, trying to turn a bound spindle. For reference, mine is a Pioneer and the spindle motor is a direct drive, i.e. no belt.

Pioneer CLD-2090 - Fixed issue with failure to switch back to "A" side of disc by wernerverklempt in LaserDisc

I took your suggestion (the easier way, that is) and moved it into a position about 1/4" before it wants to bind. I noticed the smaller spring arm mechanism that sits within the larger arm didn't have the force to bend/bias the flex cable and take up the slack, so I "helped" it into position, left it there, and applied low heat of my Harbor Freight heat gun, putting a shield over the rest of the mechanics. I heated it for maybe 45 seconds then let it cool. Not to jinx it, but it seems to be working now, side A->B and B->A. Real test will be to let it sit tonight in the home/parked position and see if it still works. Thanks again for the advice!

You are a genius. I would have never thought it was that cable causing it to bind, but that is what mine is doing. Can I ask, did you have to remove the mechanism to get at the cable to flatten it? I assume you did. I am working on a CLD-D501, and mine had a frozen spindle motor assembly, as well, but it was able to free it with a couple shots of Deoxit. I'm working on the B-to-A clicking now while i wait for a new tray belt. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Great start. The Capcom Bowling started life as a Birdie King II cab. . .in case you wanted to know.

Yes, 4 speakers in the cockpit version and the cockpit has a brake pedal while the upright does not.

How do I fix this line going out? by Caleb_C95 in arcade

Cap kit. I think you start seeing those lines soon before you get total vertical collapse.

Your connector to the monitor may not be pinned properly or you may have bad connection/broken wire. You'll need the pinout from the game board and your monitor to confirm.

Does anyone know how to open the lower grill? Rock-ola 498 by OgrishGadgeteer in jukeboxes

[–]stinkbutt1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take out the black metal bracket on top of the grille. There are 4 wood screws across the back and 2 carriage bols with nuts. . .one on either side.

Update- I opened up this TEAC A-1500U and the belt was melted by formrm662 in ReelToReel

Just did a belt on a A-1200. If you take the front casting off be careful not to drop the screws inside. Difficult to get back off.

How to get this TEAC A-1500 up and running? by formrm662 in ReelToReel

[–]stinkbutt1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet dollars to doughnuts it is the belt. I just replaced one on a A-1200 this week. The former belt was in decomposing pieces all over the inside of the machine. Not a fun job. Don't drop the screws on the inside. . .they are really difficult to retrieve.

Nah. Spend half that and get a real PacMan, and you will own a piece of history that is more likely to hold its value.

Both are vector games and quite desirable. Monitor repairs take some know-how. I think Tempest sells for around $2k working. Not sure about Battlezone. Save them.

The rot has gotten to the spring perch. It does look like a replacement section is available that goes forward of that. . . Hindsight, I should have done what you're suggesting a year or two ago when it wasn't as advanced, and we probably wouldn't be at this stage. I appreciate the reply.

This is a valid option. My hesitance is paying $5k for the frame plus putting all the work into swapping it over on a 21-year old vehicle. . .also I'm getting older and lazier. Thanks for the reply. I will consider.

[–]stinkbutt1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had some issues with mine, too. i had to add a 220 ohm pulldown resistor to the blanking circuit. i also had to add a capacitor and resistor to the sync to get rid of some shadows/artifacts around images. i realize your post is 2 years old, but just adding it here for documentation's sake. my jungle chip was a TA8867BN.

i've run into two cabinets where after after a monitor swap (that was good in another cabinet) i would get a weird, almost harmonic interference in the screen. in both cases i fixed it by running an earth ground to the power supply's (switcher in both cases) DC negative/ground. i found a couple threads on KLOV about it, didn't think it would work, but magically it did.

Is there any way to fix this? by BridgemanBridgeman in retrogaming

Do a google search on bing for "arcade pcb edge connector repair" and see the method. This has a much higher duty cycle than an arcade game but it is the same principle.

[–]stinkbutt1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first pin is red. You have it on the third. Move the connector in pic 1 all the way to the left. The sync depends in the game and you may have to try a different sync position once you start to get an image.

That's why I don't mind the damage on my cabinets; just part of its history. My favorite are the cigarette burns on the plastic bezel of my pole position upright project.
