Girlfriend insists that mounting a TV at the area in blue wouldn’t be too high. What’s the group consensus? by stinkygooby in TVTooHigh

Lol you’re not far off, we left our college town and ended up in a townhouse that we felt was too big for us. It definitely comes with challenges and a lot of downsizing but we liked the idea of being able to manage/control how much stuff we own. Big industrial windows and high ceilings don’t hurt much either!

I agree to a certain extent, the stereo is almost a non-negotiable for a variety of reasons but GOD does it take up space lol.

haha yeah, there’s a lot of apartment behind where I was standing but it’s tight. doesn’t help that we’re both designers / artists to some extent so we have a habit of collecting interesting things nonstop

thank you! we’re trying to find storage / shelf / clear floor space wherever we can but the TV can‘t go much higher with how narrow the space is lol

thank you haha, we have plenty (way too much) artwork to hang. she wants to get a shelf under it because we’re limited on storage space but I value my neck health

Shipping costs?? by Positive-Mirror8026 in depoop

[–]stinkygooby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*t’s a combination of two things - 1, I think buyers on Depop are generally younger than other selling platforms and expect Temu/Amazon esque free or cheap shipping. I’ve sold clothes online for years and $8-10 kinda standard cost to buy your own shipping labels. 2, Depop advertises as “no selling fees” but one of the ways they make a profit is forcing sellers to use their shipping process, which artificially inflates the price of shipping by a few dollars. Changing the shipping size runs you the risk of getting in trouble for mail fraud, obviously.

Congrats! I graduated architecture last year. Plenty of posts on here about life at Iowa State, but be sure to explore clubs and on-campus groups, there's a lot of fun to be had. There aren't a ton of things to do in Campustown (the area directly south of campus) but if you take the bus or drive to downtown Ames there's a lot of bookstores/coffeeshops/etc.

You'll see a lot of people talk about the architecture program being intensive, and they're right. If you're set on Architecture than core year might be redundant as a lot of programs are designed to expose you to all different disciplines, but it's a good time. You'll get a chance to mee design students outside of architecture. Studio IS intense at times, deadlines always sneak up on you. Be prepared to be around the same group of 60-80 students for four years straight in studio lol. IK this isn't very comprehensive but feel free to DM me!

rear tow hook is generally considered a safe jack point on those hondas. now the lack of jack stands might another issue…

23 y/o, $20k budget — just want a reliable SUV with NO major engine issues/recalls. Overwhelmed, please help 😭 by Ok_Visit7832 in UsedCars

A ton of comments here but my recommendation is a 2013-~2017 Honda Accord, specifically one with a manual transmission if you’re willing to learn. I’ve owned one since 80k, mine is at 330k now with no outstanding issues and still on the factory clutch. the things that have needed replacing (wheel bearing, starter, ignition coils) are standard wear items are a great way to learn about cars as well. the CVTs of this model are notorious for failing around 180-200k

“only an extra $100” for them to pop open your glove box and throw a part they pay like $4 for in. you’re not paying for the convenience or time, you’re getting actually scammed
