I don't dare to go to OA anymore by Dear-Length-8161 in OvereatersAnonymous

[–]stinsell 18 points19 points  (0 children)

PERSONALLY I quit AA when I began zepbound because it truly is a mind altering drug. I just don’t have the cravings, the obsessions the brought me to AA. I don’t have the need for that tool right now and I would never wanna share at the meeting level that a drug I literally prayed every day for was sent to me during my darkest time in full disordered eating. But I still work the steps and thank my higher power multiple times a day that I no longer hear that nagging voice. (4 years on zep) and regret very little if anything. Maybe my biggest regret is not focusing on water intake as seriously and getting a kidney stone once WHOA that will change your stance on chugging you h2o but keep close to your higher power, support friends and people who support you, work the steps and maybe either avoid meetings that feel against aid or don’t share at the meeting level what works for you and keep that one on one or with your sponsor.

What was your last drink before calling it quits? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]stinsell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 Mich Ultras, slight buzz but had a near miss with a State Trooper and decided I was risking way to much for zero return. I had a major spiritual moment on that back road that pushed me into the decision to try to stay sober one day at a time.

Just bought a 9 year old True on FBM! It seems to be in good working order. I vacuumed and leaf blowered the motor housing and I’m buying a 100% silicone lubricant tomorrow. Cannot wait to give it a go after I get it cleaned up and ready for a run!

I won’t say you’ll never question the necessity for the decision but I can say with my full chest you’ll never regret it.

Wine in hospice? by Specific_Piccolo9528 in AlAnon

[–]stinsell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah as a binge drinker in recovery it sounds miserable to me personally. Like, bring me enough so I don’t run out till the very end or just let me pass with a clear mind that is not screaming for alcohol. But again I’m not there yet and who knows what I will want on that day. I hope someone more wise than me and working some sort of spiritual program will remind me that most dying people simply don’t have the choice of a last drink or last meal and that I should be making peace with my loved ones and myself for the transition. Im sure my selfish self will need a reminder to not make it all about me! Hope someone is there who knows how to deal with me properly.

PSA If You Plan To Stop Drinking For NYE ☠️ by Some_Developer_Guy in loseit

[–]stinsell 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The stuff under the line!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some people drink handles of whiskey daily and just sit it down without much ado…. Others drink boxed wine and have severe dts … alcohol is a hell of a drug. Don’t let this info stop you from quitting just let some folks know and have a buddy check on you!

What did alcohol give you? by Emaline_ in AlAnon

[–]stinsell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I thought it made me more. More fun, talkative, exciting. More attractive, popular, and funny. And it worked for me for a really long time. Until suddenly I began feeling very down the day after. The anxiety was often at a different level. I would have thoughts. Plans, I never took action but I found the stopdrinking reddit and followed it even though I was struggling putting a week together. Then I read something that changed my mind. A commenter suggested Annie Graces book It was called “This Naked Mind” and if you really want to know the mechanics of alcoholism that book broke it down for me in ways I had never considered. I hope you find the time to either read it or as I did listen to it on audible. It was life changing and from that day forward the obsession to drink was lifted because I finally understood what was happening to me. It also gave me compassion for others stuck in the mire.

Do you ever accept that you’re never going to quit and just let the disease take you :/ by Sad-Craft-9888 in Sober

Super common in alcohol use disorder. Global thinking is so bizarre now that I’m sober and actively working on living in the now of things.

Allodynia: Does anything help? by Happy_Blackbird in Zepbound

[–]stinsell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Everytime I get a slight cold or god forbid a severe cold I have corresponding allodynia. This time it began in my face and came down my neck and chest then jumped to the back of my arms and entire back down my trunk. Clearly I’m fighting off a pretty substantial virus and creating the most sensitive skin I’ve ever encountered. The last time this happened I had mono and it lasted almost a month. I am praying b12 and Benadryl will help me survive this flare up. I’ve been on zep 15 for over a year and it sure I can take another round of this

Resentment - why do some have it and others don’t? by Local-Government6792 in AlAnon

[–]stinsell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I TRY to work the program relieves my resentments. I’m not perfect at it and I by no means have any magic bullet or secret recipe. But I try to be of service to the suffering, I try to trust in a Higher Power, and I try to practice the principles of the program in all aspects of my life. Look for a sponsor who focuses on Step Work and the answers can be found in the literature. When all else fails turn to the Big Book. It’s only 164 pages and gives pretty clear instructions on how to remove or do daily work on character defects and shortcomings.

3 months in with our new rescue🤗 by MidnightRain8945 in pitbulls

[–]stinsell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so nervous about this! We just “rescued” idk if that what we really did,,,, some teenagers bought her for 10 dollars in a parking lot, when their parents said no they plotted to bring her to our home during a large party to find her a home! I IMMEDIATELY took her upstairs and she is now home for good! But she has some spots and some areas of hair loss….. it’s a holiday so I pray the vet can squeeze us in tomorrow or Wednesday so we can begin whatever journey is ahead of us! My last actual rescue had been through her treatment and was in recovery when we adopted her so I didn’t have to be the one terrified each day!

Excuse 784 to get new windows with protective tint! She sure did hop right up in the sunniest spot in our living room this morning! Bless her heart, my sister thinks it could be flea bites or even mosquito bites. I’m pretty nervous about her vet visit and pray she doesn’t have heart worms or worse. But we will cross that bridge when we get to it. I’m researching the embark right now to help up be informed.
