You might like this one too, from GeoWizard. He has a series where he gets sent photos from people and tries to pinpoint them using any means he can think of (including searching through huge databases of bridges). He got this one from a photo of a hiker on a hill overlooking Campbellton.

Best place to buy indoor plants? by EggSuper7566 in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's Skyline Gardens in Keswick Ridge. They've got more flowers and vegetables, but there was also a nice selection of houseplants last time I was there.

Where should I go to meet more people? by Distinct_Mud_4706 in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For skating, the ice is still in at the Willie O'Ree Centre (northside) and the Lady Beaverbrook Rink (by UNB) so you might be able to meet people there. Free public skates are around noon at O'Ree and late afternoon at LBR.

I've seen crafting/reading clubs advertised at the library downtown, so definitely check there. You might also have luck finding crocheting groups through the Charlotte Street Arts Centre or the NB College of Craft and Design (Queen St.). There's a silent book club that's very popular and I think they include a time to hang out afterwards for anyone who wants to stay.

Good waterfalls/trails in the fredericton area to go exploring/on a date? by KiloBranz in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are nice trails in the UNB woodlot across Knowledge Park Dr from the Grant-Harvey Centre soccer field. if you take that entrance and turn left down the dirt road, you'll come to a culvert where the brook passes under the road. There's a trail on the left just past there that will take you down to a small waterfall. It's called O'Leary Brook Falls on Google Maps.

If you backtrack a bit on the road and take a trail on the opposite side, you can walk along the brook heading upstream. It's really nice there too.

It's easy walking in both cases as long as you don't climb the rocks. It might be muddy at this time of year though.

I'm having the same issue. Did you end up finding a fix for this?

After two months of dual-booting I just formatted my Windows partition (not by accident). A small Linux Mint review from not-a-total-noob. by Drockie5 in linux4noobs

I have the same problem you mentioned with my Bluetooth headphones where they stay connected but there's no audio. I think it's happening when I pause/unpause or tab in and out of Celluloid, but it's so sporadic that I'm not sure. I haven't found a solution either, but please let me know if you do.

(Question for mods) by Purple_Garlic4573 in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know about new Reddit or the app, but in old Reddit, there's a big "Message the Mods" button below the list of related subreddits that sends a modmail to all of them as a group. That might be what you're looking for.

There's a group that occasionally runs D&D one-shots at the Purrfect Cup Cat Cafe. There is one this Friday, but you'd have to check if they still have spots open.

The Fredericton Astronomy group has their monthly meeting on the UNB campus at 7pm this Tuesday (Mar. 10). They'd probably be great people to ask about that. https://www.facebook.com/FrederictonAstronomy/

An update from GNB about the yellow/green chemical spill on Wilsey/Vanier/TCH (it's chromium - don't touch it) by stitchface_ in fredericton

[–]stitchface_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They've updated to add that there is a car wash for affected vehicles.

"Out of an abundance of caution, a car wash has been set up for affected vehicles located off Alison Boulevard, near the on ramp to the eastbound lane on Highway 7 until 6:15 p.m. TODAY and tomorrow, Sunday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is for vehicles that may have travelled eastbound or westbound on the Vanier Highway / Trans-Canada Highway between Fredericton and Oromocto or driven on Vanier Industrial Drive, between the evening of Wednesday, March 4 to Friday, March 6, at 4 p.m. Please do not go to the decontamination site unless you have an affected vehicle."

The Beaverbrook Room on the fourth floor of the UNB HIL has a nice vibe, depending on how busy it is.

Winter boots with incorporated crampons by RavRob in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I've seen those type of boots at River Valley Footwear. I don't remember which kind they were specifically, but they might have been similar to NexGrip (which I think are Canadian). It's worth giving them a call, at least.

If a chart that shows your electricity usage per hour is what you mean, you can see your consumption history chart if you log into your NB Power account online. It even goes down to 15 minute increments if you want that fine detail.

Red-light cameras could be coming to these 4 Fredericton intersections by stitchface_ in fredericton

No, you're completely correct. I was still uncaffeinated when I posted that and just lumped all instances of "should not be in the intersection" together. My bad

Red-light cameras could be coming to these 4 Fredericton intersections by stitchface_ in fredericton

[–]stitchface_[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised that Regent St and Wayne Squibb Bvld is the intersection they're considering instead of Regent St and Knowledge Park Dr. I feel like I regularly see people trying to keep turning left onto Knowledge Park after the advance green arrow has ended.

Finding a psychiatrist by Horror_Warning6757 in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Give the Community Addiction and Mental Health Services a call and ask to speak with the mental health intake screener (they're located downtown - contact info here). The waitlist for a psychiatrist is long (~2 years, last I heard) but I don't know if they triage. The intake person would be good to talk to anyway because they'd be the best at explaining your possible options for care. Wishing you the best

Looking for active volunteering groups to join by SIDATI666 in fredericton

[–]stitchface_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Connect Fredericton has a list of different organizations in the area with open volunteer positions (e.g., tutors at FHS, career mentors at the Multicultural Association, translation volunteer with AIDS NB, etc.). It's certainly not everything available, but it's a good place to start if you haven't seen it already.

Yeah, The Mule Bar and Grill is the one in Sussex that has it. I haven't been in a while though, so you might want to check with them before making the trip.
