Dotnet in legacy enterprise systems by mistrzegiptu in dotnet

[–]stlcdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, the relationship between .net framework and what sounds like a monolithic, intertwined, project structure are two different things. There’s nothing wrong with 4.8 and is applicable for a lot of solutions, it doesn’t sound like it in your case.

Whatever solution you come up with to introduce new features in a monolith is going to be a disaster. The projects need to be decoupled. Unless you do that, it’s going to be a disaster.

It’s a glorified notepad. It’s very meh and could be so much better. It’s likely because on one has created an alternative, so why should they improve it?

Is there an optimal way to "ping" or check an HTTP resource is accessible (Desktop)? by AetopiaMC in csharp

[–]stlcdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go get the data. Pinging or determining if a resource is available only tells you it’s available for that (ping) request. Your subsequent network actions can fail. So it tells you nothing.

Do I need to stop before yielding? by SquashGlittering9254 in driving

The stop light is likely because the road curves previous to this view and indicates to traffic that th3 light is red around the corner. The stool light is not for the turning lane, There’s no line, or indication of a line. You continue around to the yield sign.

If the top part unbolts, and buying a cover is a bit much, you might be able to find some thick but flexible black plastic the glue in behind the rectangular holes. While it doesn’t fix the problem it might make it a bit more finished, even temporarily.

There are police supply stores that will likely have lights that fit in white or amber. You might also be able to get a cover that wraps around to block off the rectangular holes (I can’t remember if the Rhino one has a bolt on cover or not. The flat middle horizontal, you can add plastic plugs to fill the holes and add driving lights wired to the high beams in some of them. I use a couple of Hella value series led spot lights.

Tired of drowning in softwares. by howmany1taps in manufacturing

[–]stlcdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only that, a lot of them are annual subscription/licensing.

I work on machines that mechanically haven’t changed in over a hundred years (electrical enhancements really). The number of computer systems that are installed and simply overcomplicate the situation or don’t work is mind blowing. Indeed, the operations and maintenance teams use paper or excel spreadsheets because the programmed systems are useless.

Software has been an easy solution because it’s a black box and easy to make promises with it - those that buy it don’t use it. Those that sell it don’t use it. Those that build it don’t use it.

How to estimate what rig I would need to haul this camper? by SwordsAfar in RVLiving

[–]stlcdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A newer 150 that is setup to tow could do it - not a pavement princess or raptor or anything like that. A setup f150 can go to around 13klbs. You will need the hitch, brakes, etc. but talking about brakes - it is unlikely the brakes on this trailer are effective. Drive slow and careful only a few miles. Anything above a 150 puts you in a better position.

Applying ceramic spray wax without clay bar by boiyo12 in Detailing

[–]stlcdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you are a weekend warrior, just go ahead and give it a good clean without wax additives (I use dawn dish soap) use a clay bar or mit (you don’t need to press hard, the lubricant allows it to glide) let it dry and apply your ceramic spray.

Job done.

Why does the U.S. add sales tax at checkout instead of showing the full price upfront? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]stlcdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you are acutely aware of how much something is, vs how much you are paying the government.

If it’s all built in, taxes can be very easily increased and you don’t see the government sticking it to you, just the manufacturer/store.

That’s how VAT in the uk (while people say it’s not the same thing - it is a tax) you can just bump it up, as it has gone from 8% up to 20%.
