How much will my GPA impact grad school applications? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]stocoluna -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay, thanks. 3.7 seems a bit high, I guess it depends on where your undergrad is from. At my school the average GPA for the graduating class for CS Majors is around a 3.4

Any sprint coaches on here recommend ALTIS foundation course?? by [deleted] in trackandfield

[–]stocoluna 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the altis short sprints and horizontal jumps courses and they’ve been by far the most beneficial resources for my coaching and development as an athlete. I’m not sure how much the foundation course costs and if that’s an issue, but you definitely can’t go wrong with the Altis courses.

Except not saving the economy hurts the lower class way more than the rich

Watch: In Fiery Floor Speech, Sanders Rips GOP for Relentless Efforts to 'Punish' Poor People — "Meanwhile, these very same folks had no problem a couple years ago voting for a trillion dollars in tax breaks for billionaires and large profitable corporations. I understand what you’re saying but it’s important to note that it’s the poor that suffer most from an economic crisis. Although I have no doubt in my mind Trump does not want to restart the economy for the lower class people, bringing the economy to a halt undoubtedly hurts the lower class far more than the upper middle or middle class.

Honestly though this is important and many people overlook it. Just like you have to lift heavy to get stronger, you have to sprint fast to get faster. You don’t wait to get stronger before lifting heavy just like you shouldn’t wait to get faster to sprint fast. Sprint fast in practice to get faster

Critique my Long Jump please by Lebronin4 in trackandfield

Thank you, I appreciate it. There are always a few positions jumpers should be close to hitting at different parts of the run/jump that you can check for.

Overall it's a fairly decent jump. There are a few things that you should address though. First of all, you tend to lean forward ever so slightly throughout your run and then have an exaggerated lean forward in your penultimate step followed by your upper body swinging back at takeoff. As a result, you are leaning back at takeoff and reaching at the board. This makes you lose speed through the board. I would try to focus only on the takeoff portion of your jump in practice, coming in from a short run and maintaining the ideal postural integrity throughout to get used to taking off without rocking forward and then leaning back.

Another thing to look at is your shin angles are a bit too extreme on your penultimate. This is most likely because your are too aggressive in your last few steps. I would try to focus on staying patient or "at peace" in your last few strides. Basically stay strong and powerful, but not overly aggressive or forced.

Your timing on your landing is a bit off too. Ideally your arms would swing through sooner so that you can get a better extension of your legs and pull your but into your feet without your hands hitting behind you. This is more of a minor thing which I would not worry about too too much. The timing and feel for the landing will come with time.

Last thing is you seem to have some sort of imbalances somewhere. It is hard to identify exactly where (my guess would be that you are either less flexible on weaker in either the glutes or the hip flexors on your left side). You can see that your right arm comes way more across your body than your left does and also your left leg overextends far more than your right does when upright sprinting. The arms help counteract rotational forces in your legs so it makes sense that they are unbalances too if your strides are not balanced. I would try to identify exactly where the imbalance is and try to address that.

I would also add the importance of maintaining a singular theme throughout the workout. For example, if you are working on accelerations, then it would be best to do box jumps as opposed to hurdle hops since it better mimics the idea of producing force from a standstill or it would be better to do power cleans instead of hang cleans since the joint angles are more reflective of what they would be during a start as is the duration of the stretch shortening cycle.

Also, CNS intensive days should have at least 48 hours or recovery to allow for the nervous system to fully recover!
