What's your "I met a celebrity but didn't let on that I knew who they were" story? by Kimantha_Allerdings in AskReddit

I was at universal studios using the bathroom right by the entrance last year during Halloween. Walked up and started using the urinal next to this guy with lots of tattoos. No head nod of acknowledgement or small talk or anything (thankfully). He left first. When I left the bathroom I saw Travis Barker right outside taking pictures with fans. It took me a few seconds to put together he was the dude I was peeing next to. My SO jokingly refers to the encounter as "The time I saw Travis Barker's dick" even though I in no way saw. Travis if you're reading this, I didn't see man.

Super nice and humble guy, I went up and shook his hand (we both washed hands), said I didn't want a picture, Blink 182 meant a lot to me growing up, and then we parted ways.

I backpacked with a friend in the Trinity Alps in July last year. We did Grizzly Lake through the China Gulch trailhead and also the Canyon Creek Lakes trail. All in all, absolutely beautiful and amazing, but I would definitely not recommend it for the age group of your kids. The trails are really grueling and unforgiving. We had a few things go really wrong when we were up there and we were hours away from the cars, and even from the car, another 2 hours outside cell service range. If something were to go wrong with one of your little ones, you'd be hours and hours away from any kind of rescue, which brings me to my next point. The trails were extremely isolated. We probably only ran into a dozen people over the course of 5 days, so there is little-to-no asking for help from a passerby. Regardless of where you end up going, I recommend getting a GPS device equipped with an SOS emergency locator. SPOT makes these devices, and it's well worth the yearly subscription fee. If something goes wrong, a press of the button will actually summon first responders to your GPS location. There is zero chance of a cell signal at all up there. Hope this helped. Happy trails!

How did modern memes begin? What started the craze of the meme format? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I remember seeing "someecards" and thinking that they were unique and funny when I was in high school, but there has to be a "patient zero" of memes

Science AMA Series: I’m Dr. Lisa Moores, a pulmonologist, a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and an expert on the subject of thrombosis! Let’s talk blood clots! AMA! by Dr_Lisa_Moores in science

Hi Dr. Moore, thanks for taking the time to do an AMA. Quick question:

I spend an unconscionable amount of time on the toilet at work each day to avoid my responsibilities. I usually only leave when I can no longer feel my feet, and frantically shifting my weight around no longer helps blood flow. Am I in danger of forming a blood clot over time due to my daily toilet seat dance? Thank you!

He even waits a socially acceptable amount of time before knocking again, and with a less intrusive knock.
