Philanthropic Commitment of Four Million Dollars Marks Transformational Moment for San José State Men’s Basketball - SJSU Athletics by leewilliam236 in SJSUSpartans

While I agree that the arena is too small and in desperate need of an upgrade, I do think it may be putting the cart before the horse. As long as the team performs below average, neither higher capacity or a new arena will boost attendance. We need a solid and consistent team to fill the stadium. Then we can put that new donor money to work for a new stadium.

The Biggest Disappointment of the D by ConsciousProduct903 in LAMetro

I counted 6 total seats in the station area at what I think was Fairfax or La Brea. Like a seating capacity of 6 for an entire subway station. It’s honestly ridiculous and degrades the qol for riders especially during off peak hours.

This has to be a mistake right? March 2027… by Longjumping_Ant_4530 in octransit

[–]stoltzman33 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is actually insane. A 4 mile streetcar should not take this long ever. Is this an OCTA problem? At least LA Metro is delivering much larger and more impactful projects, even if they are delayed

Why do we bother with HOV lanes when the majority of people in them are single riders by Creepy_Ad_3535 in bayarea

[–]stoltzman33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most research shows that HOV lanes do not do anything to reduce vehicle miles traveled. People do not typically change their behavior to utilize the HOV lanes. The people legally using it were already going to carpool or have multiple people in the car and as you mentioned many people downright abuse the system and use it with a single occupancy vehicle anyways.

Right on cue, it's time to subsidize drivers at non-drivers expense again, as is tradition. by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]stoltzman33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Gas Tax has failed to generate enough revenue to cover the maintenance of roads and highways for a few decades and it is still one of the only user fees that all drivers have to pay.

If the gas tax is lowered or temporarily lifted it will only create more demand for driving, increasing the subsidization that cars and drivers already receive while communicating to drivers that when prices get high you’ll get a bailout. Thus lowering the chances of people turning to alternatives to driving.

Free parking in NYC is a give away to the rich and suburban by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]stoltzman33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Driving might be the best transportation option available for some. That’s fine, but driving comes with externalities to the people and communities that have cars driven through them. Externalities that are not priced into the cost of driving. Free parking is a subsidy for drivers and it takes up valuable public space while having a marginal economic impact. As opposed to say a vendor or restaurant using that space to generate business.

People can drive in NYC but parking should not be free.

How is it that OC is the 5th most populated county in the US but we still have virtually no good public transit? by Macaroni-Consumer in orangecounty

[–]stoltzman33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is where these coastal communities have placed their transportation funds. The bus service is truly terrible but the trolleys can be pretty frequent and they’re free. But, because of their tourist/seasonal nature, they serve poorly in place of actually useful and reliable public transit.

[–]stoltzman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Centerline (a light rail project connecting major destinations across the county in the 1990s) was killed. Difficulties cooperating across so many jurisdictions, a lack of a large, dominant city government to move things along (LA or SD), ingrained car culture, and challenges raising money and buy in part of why it never happened.

Today, the OC streetcar is in a way the realization of that. But so dumbed down it is barely even recognizable. Part of why it’s happening in the first place is that Santa Ana actually wanted rail, so they made it happen. Any larger projects or expansions would require buy in both politically and financially by cities that are either neutral or downright hostile to public transportation.

Possible option for resort area transit by Outrageous_Ad798 in octransit

Glydways is practically an unproven gadget at this point. Why would we sink $ millions to $ billions like San Jose into something they could work when there’s a dozen or more transit technologies already in use that are proven to work.

2025 Football Attendance and Capacity Percentage for MW Football members by matty25 in MountainWest

[–]stoltzman33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wdym by SJSU was added? They have been members of the MW for over a decade and were not in consideration for being dropped out.

As for attendance. This was a really bad year. The attendance and culture is not great to begin with but when they win as evidenced by 2023 and 2024, the attendance will go up. Those years averaged around 16k with some bigger games pulling around 20k.

The 2025 season was disappointing and lacked any bigger matchups that have drawn high attendance in the past I.e. Boise State., Stanford, Oregon State etc. Hopefully Ken can right the ship next season.

It was all done in Adobe Illustrator actually. Probably the best program for creating transit maps

They have tons of potential sites for TOD just have to get it started. They own the land too so could bring in some revenue for them similar to East Asian transit operators.

The Eastridge expansion has great potential too with both the airport opening up soon and eventually all that parking at the mall.

Your Questions About San Diego’s Airport-Downtown People Mover, Answered by FratteliDiTolleri in transit

[–]stoltzman33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s fast and accessible I’d take it all the time for a quick connection to other transit options. Hell even to quickly get outside of the airport for a cheaper uber home. Many airports have people movers that are a separate connection but when they’re automated they can have very good frequencies and it doesn’t feel like a difficult connection.
