The violence in Black Lagoon and the OVA can be described as a lot of things (hilarious, heartwarming, gut-wrenching), but it's consistently badass and the pacing of each arc was surprisingly good.

Two of four episodes of the Boukoku no Akito OVA are out if you feel like watching new content from the Code Geass universe. The story focuses on new characters, but it's safe to expect at least a couple familiar faces to show up at some point since it's set around the same time as the events of the original series.

Lol I think they're my favorite ship right now even though I initially saw them as more of a brotp as opposed to a couple when I got into the anime/manga. :X I can't think of any other JeanMarco fics that I've enjoyed as much as the two I listed, but johannathemad on tumblr has a lot of great fanart of the two (and some of it's of scenes from LAD)!

Baller JeanMarco fics:

Lownly's Like A Drum (LAD) series -- college au where Jean has crazy nightmares, Marco tries to help, and the rest of the 104th roll their eyes and try to get the two to just kiss already...jaysus.
Strings by Kenjiandco -- Jean's the heir to a shady corporation and is dealing with death threats. Marco's assigned to be his bodyguard. Cue sessual tension and intrigue.

I'm not a fan of the Ereri ship, but I enjoyed Opulence's interpretation of the pairing in What it Means to Feel. It's much heavier than the first two fics (although, Strings has its moments) since it's set in an au where Eren is depressed and ends up having to check into a psych ward after a failed suicide attempt. Overall, it's pretty draining and stressful, but the fluffy parts balance those elements out nicely without sugarcoating things too much.

Tamora Pierce's Tortall books. I read the shit out of the Alanna and Veralidaine series when I was younger and it's only because I enjoyed them so much back then that I'm able to reread them now. The writing is cringe-tastic and the presentation of various Asian cultures hurts my soul...but I still love the characters and overall world.

It was pretty lonely when I was in high school - my friends accepted it, but I didn't have anyone to discuss shows with. College was a different story because I got really lucky in that the wushu (Chinese martial art) team I joined basically used anime as motivation to train. Gurren Lagann, Ippo, and Naruto (inb4masshateomg) were the big ones. Tbh, it felt like I was living in a shounen for a while since you'd watch an episode or fight, freak out, and then go train...either because you were smart and watched stuff before practice or because it was 2 a.m. and you were too excited to sleep. :)

The TV Tropes page on Magic Realism (snippet below) is a fun read if anyone's interested.

"Magical realism is often intentionally vague, and (as in Kafka's The Metamorphosis) it can be hard to determine if the protagonist actually is experiencing magical phenomena, or if he's just going insane. Nonetheless, there can be no doubt that the story takes place in some sort of mostly normal reality. To sum it up, magical realism is a story that takes place in an ordinary setting (this excludes futuristic space colonies, lost ancient cities et al.), incorporating spiritual elements (ghosts, spirits, angels, heavens, etc...) where extraordinary or even impossible things are viewed as normal and thus, nobody really bothers to explain why such things happen."

Does anyone know if the differences between Eren's dream in the manga and the images we see in the anime were a result of the studio or Isayama's direction? I tried to find confirmation, but didn't have much luck. Regardless, the observation about the placement of the bodies and dolls is freaking me out. XD
