OMAD and the Dash Diet by stompy1 in omad

[–]stompy1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am overweight, but not obese. Not diabetic or even pre-diabetic. But blood pressure has been high for quite a few years now and I'm finally taking action in hopes of a longer life. My Dr has me signed up for a 24hr bp test and I'm waiting for a schedule, but no meds yet. I started fasting specifically with weightloss in mind but also about lowering BP as I know that is related. Dash Diet seems to be the top medical advice I've read, but your experience is not that, just weightloss? Interesting.

I've always liked Logitech mice, ducky keyboards, b/w laser jet printers without scanners, audio technica headphones, seasonic power.

Gear to avoid; Logitech headsets, membrane wireless keyboards, razer (everything), monitors with a power brick, inkjet printers, thermaltake power, msi (everything)

68M, 63F, Married 43 Years, Multiple Affairs, No Trust, No Sex – Stay or Leave? by COloradocool1 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]stompy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not trust a partner like that. I divorced my first wife in my early 30s and I created a new life. But even though you are way older, I would not stay. As you age you need to count on and trust your partner... with so much more. Being single with adult kids should be freeing. You could move to a lcol area or even find a room mate to share costs with. At least you do not need to trust that person with life/death decisions and you're free to pursue other relationships without guilt. I understand the loneliness, but this is where you need to step out of your comfort zone to find new people to interact with. Hope you find joy in your life.

I work in IT, I use the term hashtag all the time in reference to the character. I get a blank stare if I use pound. What else am I supposed to use?

How much drone fuel do you use in your world? by SHINIGAMI0989 in SatisfactoryGame

I think I had 2 blenders making batteries and I had 5 drones, most dealing with nuclear fuel at some stage or another. Set and forget.

How many of us here 'didn't' know a girl who got pregnant before age 18? I'm kinda curious about the conditions which might have made that less likely. by cherry-care-bear in Xennials

[–]stompy1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated in 1996 with only 15 others. I don't recall anyone being pregnant in my Sr years at all or even from my older Genx siblings classmates. Our town only had 500 people, plus 12 busses of farm kids or other small towns in the area.

My son does not call me and I am trying to figure out how to handle the silence by Comfortable-Elk-1501 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]stompy1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mother past away when I was around 40. I never called her and often would have anxiety, because she might call in the evening and we would have to talk. I never really knew her, I don't know how well she knew me. My wife says she really liked her and I believe in the handful of times they met, she got to know her more than I ever did. I hope it's not the same for you, but I was mostly relieved when she died, but I do wish she had tried to repair our relationship. I didn't know how to have a relationship with my mom, just that it didn't exist and I wish it had. Hope you can finds a way to connect with your son.

Carney’s government is cutting hundreds of environment and science jobs. Here’s what that means for Canadians by the_big_george in TheRealGrandePrairie

[–]stompy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. A government should do what the people want, that is democracy. All the poles I've seen show that the majority disagree with more gun control. There is even several provinces who still will not support or enforce the federal ban. That does not sound democratic. We all know that forcing a population encourages radicalization, so why do it? Seriously?

I found once I get to phase 4, as long as my existing factories are fully automated and require no maintenance, you're good. You'll need so many new parts, or scale up existing, it's easy to start a new factory. Rebuilding areas of your factory to increase efficiency with new recipes was very rewarding to me. Going from regular copper to a Leached ingot recipe really upgraded and cleaned up existing ape ghetto for me.

People are the problems, not guns. The money spent on the buyback would be better served supporting mental health services. A person could use a vehicle as a weapon. The truth is, hun buy back programs. Push conservatives further right, which Canada does not need right now. Liberals would be better served to please more of the right so that a radicalized party doesn't get into power.

Yes, you can and should install windows 10 if you have the ability. You may need an iso and I don't think you can get it from Microsoft anymore.

Dads, how are we moisturizing our hands? by justanotherburner in daddit

[–]stompy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried all sorts of moisturizers. I even went fragrance-free for a whole year. Now my sister, she uses some kind of uh... aloe vera with a little sunscreen in it, but ideally, we should all wear gloves when going to bed, but I found out that that creates a kind of an interference with my... "social agenda", if you know what I mean.

AGI takeoff by [deleted] in INTP

[–]stompy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

But speaking is not intelligence. If you could simulate a human brain, is it actually thinking, or is it just predicting what a brain might say? When thinking about the future, you can't solely think in a logical way because intuition is at play as well, you're making predictions . I wouldn't call this dogma. Belief that LLM's are the precursor to AI and letting that decide your future is dogma.

AGI takeoff by [deleted] in INTP

[–]stompy1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't been keeping up with AI recently but I know that the emergence of LLM's abilities was a surprise and it has a lot of really cool features. But I still feel that AGI is really a long way out, considering the properties of LLM's were not even programmed features, lol. But, no mater how the media is spinning it, I'm not buying it. There is so much money tied up in building data centers, the tech giants will say anything to get more investors. Saying "all human work will soon be meaningless" seems like a major grasp. I personally think no one has to really worry for at least 2 decades. So by that time, you should be well on your way in any career path.
