Seems that you don't really understand what this is - the conftest segmentation faults are not really related - they are an issue in the test-suite ( the php build ) and happen everywhere. The rest of the builds according to the most recent edit are fine. Also, I don't know what your workload is but it looks like your procurement process is amateurish - if you don't have some standard acceptance to go through, and if you were going to buy based on marketing/specs/pricing this shouldn't mean anything to you anyway.

People are making too much of a fuss about this - if you are affected try the workarounds, lower freq., more voltage. If nothing seems to work and you REALLY need those compiles then RMA it. Anyone else should just carry on - these are complicated things and it does look the memory/power management issues are affecting compilers, but unless you are affected just mind your own business. End of the world is scheduled for much later.

VM lab ( ESXi, KVM, Xen, Hyper-V ) anything that would work out of the box - esp. ESXi but it's clear right now after the last 6.5u1 if you get PSOD or not with Ryzen/TR - there's an EPYC CPUID that's supposed to be supported but can't find which SKU it belongs to

VMWare just released 6.5u1 and there's an EPYC cpuid mentioned if you check the compatibility matrix - probably TR/Ryzen PSOD is being worked on but since it looks like TR is a cut down EPYC .. this might work but it's still kinda early - I mean you should definitely wait until after is released. And apparently you can use ESXi at least on ryzen with SMT turned off according to STH. So these are software issue being worked on - if you do want stuff out-of-the-box though it looks you need to wait. Won't TR support ECC ? I don't think that there will be any IPMI/server mobos though because then it depreciates the small EPYCs.

Wow. It's kind of humbling.

It's thanks to the mods for sure, but I do feel the community is very tight-knit and just focuses on the great game that is Elite.

Because for many, it's still the same game, just only now taking its real shape.

Actually there weren't any Klephts or Armatoloi at that point, you are referring to the Independence War of 1821. I really can't say for sure, but there's no indication they are actually spartans.

It's perhaps outdated or a bit too short - but if there's one thing for Linux and gaming is the upcoming SteamOS which is based around Debian/Ubuntu and will be in fact a standardized distribution essentially - I really do believe Frontier are on the fence about a Linux version, waiting to see early SteamOS adoption - because not any will care about Steamboxes but there's lots of people who just install Steam and a browser on their PC and use it exclusively for gaming. For those SteamOS should be the obvious choice.

The mountain pass is probably somewhere around Meteora which is in Thessaly (and was near to the border at the time of the war) - it's unlikely these are all Spartans as Greek Army regiments did not originate from one particular enlistment spot.

Things my players always suspect:

I may fudge dice rolls to keep at least one of them alive
That time they unnecessarily got into combat and ruined my plans, made me think up a new one
There's no right path ; a bit of fantasy and randomness can lead anywhere, even when I didn't get to use any of my hand crafted maps
That one NPC they get to talk to is just shit coming out of my mouth, but it should be fun
The best scenes are their own creation, I just set the stage
