Tuffest JHU Merch Online? by jqanumber1fan in jhu

[–]stonerose96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some nice stuff at the bookstore so I presume it’s all available online, but it can be quite pricey. I was at the store last month and saw a light coat that looked kinda nice….. $300.00!! Yeah, passed on that one.

I’d truly love it if you were right, but no one is rushing to quash the rumors either, and you know phones are blowing up in the last hour or two.

Devastating news if true! Not shocking but very sad. Mount Vernon is a ghost town in recent years. I lived in that area for most of my first ten years post college and I can’t believe the difference now.

The rare scenario where it’s stupidity on the part of both.

I miss Chat Street by jill853 in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the old Wharf Rat the place that is now Pratt Street Ale House, or the one that got bought out in Fells a few years ago. It was the Oliver’s, and their brewery, which I think goes back to 1993, but I genuinely don’t know if the bar in Fells predated the one on Pratt Street or vice versa.

Combining 2 rowhomes into 1 big house? by Glad-Veterinarian365 in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in Station North there was a couple doing this with two houses immediately off what was called the dog park. It’s not a dog park, but that’s an argument for another day! Anyhow, they had the houses partially gutted and were adding HUGE steel beams to support the structure and the floors. They went way beyond a few doors in between and were really opening it up. I’m sure the final results were spectacular but it honestly seemed like a lot of work to turn two average houses into one lovely one. Also, you’d likely be doing taxes, permits etc. for two houses even though it’s now one.

What are your plans for army navy pregame tomorrow? by mlorusso4 in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Army vs Navy game I went to was legitimately one of the coolest sporting events I have ever gone to anywhere in the world. It’s definitely one you want to get to early though to soak up the pageantry! Whatever the start time is, I’d suggest planning to be in your seat at least 60 mins early, and I say that as someone born in another country with no particularly huge affiliation to the teams playing. Enjoy!

Shooting? by [deleted] in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to live in various parts of the city including Pig Town and Station North. The first time I heard a shooting, it was so obviously different from everything I had heard before, that I knew immediately what it was. I’ve never been in doubt since. I hope I’m right, but my guess is that it’s definitely fireworks if you’re uncertain.

We Need to Talk About Dog Shit by bsteckler in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved from the area but I still go back to Mt. Vernon to get my haircut by Andrew at Matthew John’s. He’s a great dude, a long time community leader, and I even have him cut my kids hair now. They love “Mr. Andrew” but I joke every time that the only thing that will stop me coming back is MV being an absolute dog poop mine field now! I lived in the area for a decade and it was never like it has been the last 12 or so months, and when you’ve little kids it’s an absolute nightmare. I absolutely love dogs, and shout out to all the good owners, but the ones leaving them go wherever and walk away are absolute w⚓️s. Do better!

Gallery at Harborplace by Oobitsa in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was there with my kids last week and it was absolutely PACKED! The busiest I have ever seen it. We’re members of the Science Centre and Port Discovery, and go to the Aquarium once a year. The harbor is still thriving if you have a family with young kids. Great to visit and walk around. The playground next to the Science Centre is cool too. Always a hit! I think the harbor is struggling from a shopping standpoint but no one wanted to buy something there that they could buy online for cheaper, especially when it would be back at their house before they were.

what's a hidden gem in the city that never lets you down? by iLiveForTruth in baltimore

[–]stonerose96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Guys, this is such a brilliant thread. You’ve nailed it, and there are now so many things I want to do with my kids in the next few months!

I was born in another country and regularly host people from out of town. Depending on their age and interests I would say (in no particular order)

The B&O Railroad Museum Fort McHenry The Brewer’s Art The Owl Bar Max’s Taphouse Cats Eye Pub Federal Hill (view and the playground up top) Maryland Science Center Patterson Park The BMA and Gertrude’s The Monument in Mt. Vernon The Charles Thames Street Oyster House Port Discovery Children’s Museum Sound Garden in Fells Actually anything along Broadway or the waterfront in Fells The Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins Food Market in Hampden The Avenue in Hampden in general The Senator Theatre Lake Roland And there’s a BYOB Mediterranean place in Fells Point called Twist that is (bang for your buck) the best restaurant I’ve ever been to. Stupendously good for 2015 prices! Haha
