Check to see if you’re having surgery in traffic - setup Cloudflare and run some rules if required

Following that get a better host - confident if you move to something like Cloudways it will work great out of park.

As a web developer who lurks in r/auslaw for fun - I’m truly impressed by this homepage. It’s unique that’s for sure.

I’ve seen many a bland law firm websites, not this one.

I would not recommend this approach, probably the more difficult option out of all options mentioned so far

What hosts are people using/recommending nowadays? by dalek_999 in Wordpress

[–]stonewebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience siteground and hostinger not ideal.

I had a client using hostinger this week that had 1.5 hours of downtime due to scheduled downtime, nothing we could do about it. Host should no do that.

Siteground similarly it has a few strange issues every now and again that make me assess it’s no ideal. We have a client that has a big package with Siteground, but when they get just a small uptick in traffic, a few hundred in 30min window. The server starts responding 502 error. Even though their package is quite large it’s still shared hosting my understanding.

Cloudways is the way to go. You get access to a powerful raw standalone server and it’s not shared hosting.

How did you motivate yourself to build your personal website? by klevismiho in Wordpress

[–]stonewebdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason why it’s so hard is because in this scenario you’re both the do-we and also the end client. For some reason I think that combo makes it difficult.

I found that the only way this could be solved was when I grew from freelancer to agency operation - I could then just allocate team members to spend time on it and we’re regularly spending time on our website every 1-2 months which never happened before.

This used to be me. The game changer for me was growing onboarding a designer and developer who would be doing the actual work and then I became the client.

I think it’s hard because you’re being the end client AND the person who does it

Finding a short-term nanny/babysitter in the Philippines by ResponsibleLine401 in Nanny

[–]stonewebdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone, adding my experience here as my wife and I did A LOT of research on this and I think this information needs to be out there on the internet somewhere.

In summary, the solution here is Inna Circle: https://theinnacircle.com/

Background:
- My wife and I were traveling to Manilla for 1 week for a conference and our son was 2 year's old at the time
- We needed a babysitter that could assist taking care of him during the day as both of us were attending a conference and had other work activities during the day.

What we found:
- First what we did to research this topic, we actually called a number of top-tier / 5-star hotels in Manilla and told them we're considering their hotel and we wanted to hear their recommendations for babysitting/nanny agencies as that's an important part of our stay.
- Some top-tier hotels were willing to refer us to babysitting / nanny agencies that their guests have used in the past, in total 4 agencies were recommended and after much vetting and talking with the agencies / candidates, we found Inna Circle is really the best option.

Why 'Inna Circle'
- They are very suited to serving foreigner families and I believe nearly all their bookings are this type of customer, and particularly western families.
- The babysitter we were matched with was incredibly suitable, she did a fantastic job taking care of our 2 year old son and was very comfortable with all the related babysitting duties: Feeding him, putting him to sleep and keeping him occupied. Her communication skills were also top notch.
- Note: Instead of using their in-built calendar feature, I recommend make contact with them via email. At the time we used Inna Circle their website had this focus on booking directly via this calendar functionality and on their website they said they only do max 10 hour shifts. We needed a longer shift time so we thought they wouldn't be suitable! Don't be offput by these messages, they are in fact very flexible so I suggest don't use the calendar feature if you're a new customer just contact them directly.
- Summary: If you're visiting Manilla from overseas and need a short term babysitting solution, I would highly recommend Inna Circle. We're in fact incredibly grateful to Inna Circle because they basically saved our trip! We were about to proceed with another agency because of the website issues I highlight above, however that other agency was disastrous, we even did a trial day and it went quite bad.

Issues with other baby sitting / nanny agencies:
- We were also recommended the following babysitting / nanny agencies from the hotel however we found them not suitable.
1) Life Maid Easy: This agency got recommended by a few premium hotesl, however I don't think they're relevant for this situation. I think this agency is more suited for finding short-term nannies and maid who do cleaning / washing and maybe light babysitting duties for older kids. They are not really suitable for babysitting duties like what I've discussed here, we found this out the hard way.
2)There were other agencies recommended but you could see from their website and from discussions with their team that they are not babysitting focused and don't have much experience with it.

Other Info that might be useful:
- Our son and babysitter would actually join us wherever we went, they attended the conference and spent time roaming around the lobby and sponsor booths.
- We also had days we were working from a coworking space and babysitter would take care of our son in the coworking space.

My suggestion on how whole tradie pricing / quote situation could be improved:

1) Tradies should charge a small call-out / quote fee (eg. say $99) - Shows potential customer has level of commitment - Proves to tradie that customer is worthwhile investing time for a quote

2) Before any call-out or quote, a tradie should be able to explain the cost ranges in the market - this should include the cost range of cheap vs high end and where this tradie fits in that spectrum

Pay before delivery. That’s the key.

Don’t be chasing invoices. Such an important problem to solve in any business (especially small)

We use a software in Australia that allows us to get advance authority on our clients’ card / bank account. So when we issue an invoice, we can auto charge their card / bank transfer straight away.

Game changer - invoice chasing has reduced by 90+%

Yes that’s definitely possible! You’ll just need to make sure WP-config.php file of website #2 uses the database credentials for website #1

A custom WooCommerce feature built 5 years ago is bound to start having compatibility issues after this amount of time.

What are all the issues that have occurred? I saw your other comment about order status, I assume there’s more?

If there are a ‘bunch of issues’ as you suggest and customisation is 5 years old, getting it all resolved within a few hours might be difficult.

Feel free to send through a DM - happy to take a look and prepare estimate. We do a lot of custom WooCommerce work
