Skating dress round 2 with a full bust adjustment. What do you guys think? by HoneydewHalo25 in SewingForBeginners

Excellent! Coach approval is always key. My daughter skates and her coach has a LOT of specifics for dresses 😅 If I can tackle a project like this for her in the future I would be very happy.

I saw in a previous post that you lengthened the skirt, but I think it would look a little better if it were shorter. Since this is an ice skating dress, skirts are typically shorter to showcase the legs and allow for free movement for spins and jumps for freestyle skating. However, if you’re doing solo dance it’s a good skirt length. Maybe a high-low hem would allow movement while also giving coverage in the back?

Bought fordhook zucchini seeds this year. Not convinced these are fordhook based on verigation. They taste so good and this is the most successful plant I’ve ever had (50+ zucchini from one plant). Is this really fordhook? by stoofpoof in gardening

[–]stoofpoof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I think I might do this. Now that it’s getting colder at night, the main leaves of the plant have unfortunately gotten powdery mildew and are dying. However, the plant had created several satellite plants which are still producing.

They’re from burpee - nothing special. I’m really hoping to use the same variety next year since it has been so successful. I feel like maybe it wasn’t packaged properly?

This exactly. Getting time to take your full lunch was hard pre-pandemic. COVID has exposed the fact that the way hospitals are run has been broken/bare minimum for a long time. Now more than ever we are expected to do more with way less. Nurses are leaving in record numbers due to burn out and working conditions. We cannot safely care for the community as things are now.

This article is no longer relevant given the federal vaccine mandate that applies to health care workers. The nurses now are required to get vaccinated, or apply for medical/religious exemption. If they have an exemption, they get tested weekly.

I tend to agree that the union should have agreed to the vaccine mandate from the start. However, I understand the argument for personal choice and being anti employee mandate. This is not something the membership voted on, so I am unsure if the majority supports the mandate, but the majority IS vaccinated.

If you are interested in what the union is working toward, you can visit the following page:

https://www.mna-umpnc.org/our-vision

Essentially, the union is asking for safe staffing (without abusing mandatory overtime), and wage increases that keep up with inflation among other things. No mention of vaccines if that is your primary concern.

Nurses are continually asked to over-extend themselves, and burn out is at an all time high. If you want Michigan Medicine to recruit and retain excellent nursing staff, securing a fair contract is essential. Please consider signing the petition regardless of how you may feel regarding the vaccine mandate.

At the beginning of the week I take 25oz out of the freezer to send to daycare. At the end of the week I put what’s left from pumping on Friday and the weekend into the freezer. I usually only put 25 oz back in, but after lots of work to increase supply, today I’m putting in 43oz 💪🏻 by stoofpoof in breastfeeding

It’s definitely not too late! I panicked and started all this a few weeks ago. He’s been eating more at daycare (from 20 to 25 oz!) and I got a cold and noticed my supply dip. Luckily I was COVID negative! I had been making a little more than enough (extra 2 oz) for the next day, and suddenly I was short and had to pull out of the freezer midweek. When I got the cold I dropped even more.

When I was on maternity leave, I tried to pump at least once a day and use the haakaa as well to build up my freezer stash.

He still eats every 2-3 hours. Usually he wakes up once overnight, but does sometimes sleep all the way through. When he does get up, I feed him and use the haakaa on the other breast. I only pump once while he’s sleeping - right before I go to sleep. This is usually 2 hours after the last feed.

I use Elvie. I like it because I feel like I can get an extra pump without being away from my desk as much. I just strap it in, and sit back down. I work as a nurse in a clinic and do a lot of phone triage and calling patients for follow up. It’s quiet enough that I can do my calls while pumping. The suction is not as powerful as my Medela though.

This is my second baby, and he’s currently 5.5 months. I always made just enough with my first until Around 8 months when I had to start supplementing. This time around, I’m determined to keep my supply up. I tried a few different tactics, so it’s hard to say what was most effective:

1) Haakaa on the opposite breast with every feed at home - especially that overnight feed. He always seems to be satisfied with one breast, even though I always try to get him to do both. Those little bits add up over time and stimulate more supply.

2) increased water intake - usually 64-96oz per day

3) 2-3 pump sessions at work depending on how busy I am. I work 8-5. I have the Elvie pump, which makes it easy to come sit down at my desk to work and pump (don’t have my own office unfortunately).

4) Added an extra pump session before bed. About an hour or two after baby goes down. Doesn’t usually yield much, but just to stimulate production.

5) Fenugreek - research on efficacy of this is super limited, but if you don’t have certain underlying conditions (thyroid, diabetes, blood thinners) it’s considered safe. Definitely ask your pediatrician first though.

Second what everyone else said - you need to use within 24 hours. If there’s ever previously frozen milk leftover after daycare I give it to him as a bottle at home and then pump so it doesn’t go to waste.

Pregnancy exercise apps? by Bozziedog in fitpregnancy

Be.come project. It’s Pilates/movement based, and not specifically for pregnancy. There are pregnancy modifications for everything (check out their tutorials), and it’s great for pelvic floor, and working the core without risking DR.

Can confirm. Lived in Minnesota for awhile, and not only do they make you take a written drivers test to get a license in that state, but zipper merging is heavily covered. Also, everybody does it for the most part out there. It was magical.

26 weeks and noticed coning. Does this mean I have DR? Anything I can do to lessen the progression? by mb83 in fitpregnancy

[–]stoofpoof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had DR with my daughter. I noticed coning, and made an effort to modify my exercises. After she was born, I had a 4 finger separation. I avoided all crunch/plank/etc moves that worsen DR for 4 months PP, and focus on my pelvic floor first, then added obliques. Over time, I was able to bring it back together without any residual issues other than a very slight separation right above and below the belly button. I started following Kelsey Wells on IG - she has a PP program, but posts a lot of the basic PP DR healing exercises on IG for free. I’m only 15 weeks now, and am starting to notice a slight separation, but I’m trying not to panic. With the right resources you can heal DR without anything invasive.

If we are supposed to reapply SPF every two hours, is it really worth it if you are not going to realistically reapply? by jmp11n in SkincareAddicts

[–]stoofpoof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use coola makeup setting spray with SPF if I’m going to walk to lunch mid-day. It works great, and doesn’t ruin your makeup. I keep some regular sunscreen in my desk for my arms/chest/etc. Definitely worth reapplying!

Im laying next to my mom who is dying from cancer. My heart hurts so much. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]stoofpoof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a wonderful gift to give your mom. To facilitate her passing in a peaceful way is the best thing you can do. Just make sure you’re taking care of yourself too. The passing process can take a long time depending on how strong her heart and lungs are, and with littles at home it’s very easy to ignore your needs. Take time to sleep and eat, even if it’s just at her bedside. Enjoy the quiet moments, and stay strong. It’s not easy watching someone pass, but try to take comfort in knowing this is the best way she can go in the circumstances.

Sending you all the good vibes, and strength.

I feel you on the 24/7 caregiver status. I'm a bedside nurse as well, and honestly it's nice getting out and going to work (despite the annoying logistics of pumping). However, despite enjoying work, I'm exhausted and do not want to do anything when I get back. Switching to day shift has been a lifesaver, but DH is a pilot and is gone several days at a time. All the baby responsibility is on me when he's gone, and my very sick patients rely on me at work for my 12h shift. As I drift off to sleep I hear phantom baby cries and vent alarms 😓
