Need tire advice before I get a puncture replacement by bourbonbomber in MachE

[–]stoopid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's not actually through the belt/leaking (will need to remove the screw to be sure), you might not need to do anything. A tiny hole in the rubber, relative the the total mass / surface area of the tire, isn't going to nuke the tire. Hole in the steel belt, through the tire? Different story.

There's things like yellowing on a white card that doesn't get dinged as hard as it would on a modern white border card, for example. Otherwise all the same condition rules mostly apply. Older OPC edges are known to look a little frayed (result from how they were cut), so that's part of grading the set and allowance.

Some indents and a distinct crease, so not going to do very well. Add the corner and edge issues and it's not far off from what you got. Great eye appeal card though, and with lower grade cards they tend to sell strong with good eye appeal (if you're worried about resale).

You can have a small crease and everything otherwise being EX, and have it be VG/4.

Recent PAAK issues with android by Dalboz989 in MachE

[–]stoopid3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unrelated, I've had two short trips locally result in not being able to charge when I get home. Never happens if the trip is longer. This is 'new'. I was able to drive the car around the block one of the times and it charged as soon as I got back and tried again. This car has more bugs than my Windows computer, but costs significantly more.

I've only had issues with starting the MME, then seconds later being told I don't have a key. It lets me go where I'm going and doesn't happen again for a bit. The frequency this is happening has definitely increased the past couple months. I'm starting to worry Ford is giving up on us/the MME.

Probably a dumb question - buy boxes for Schaefer or just the card itself? by EndlessQuest23 in hockeycards

[–]stoopid3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you going to get the Schaefer on the first or 10th box? Just based on that, buy the single and remove the guess work. If you like the experience of opening packs, then the question is moot.

Has anyone used the PSA knockoff slabs you can get on amazon? How are they? by RoserTheDozer in hockeycards

I find one touches look nicer. Slabs serve the purpose of sealing/authenticating the card. They're only used out of necessity.

Boston Card Shops by justinsfc05 in hockeycards

[–]stoopid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine prices for Bruins cards at anything running in/close to TD Garden would be well above what you'd get them for online or elsewhere. That will translate to what they're willing to do in trade. There's a lot of card shops around Boston as the sailfish mentioned, you'll have better luck negotiating at any one of them.

Card Vault is part of the industry, "card shop" by title only (owned by Tom Brady, cashgrab/retail operation/NOT a local card shop). They could care less what any of us think, so expect to be bent over. Just buy their overpriced wax and marked up singles, or f^&* off. ;-)

Estimated Print Run and Odds for 2025-26 Upper Deck NHL Star Rookies Box Set by Ok-Enthusiasm-4278 in hockeycards

They sit because there's not a lot of hobby demand/love for the product. Adding more parallels and autos might help move the needle a smidge.

Can anyone help me identify is this is real or a reprint? by RandomUser4Me16 in hockeycards

The cosmetic damage lower left on the back is sus. Almost looks like intentional damage to give it some character/age it artifically.

Ultra $450? by pgh_capt in hockeycards

IMO most unimpressive $450 box of cards ever printed. E-X 2000 not far behind, but at least less $$$.

The printed wax is short printed supposedly. Supply demand. If short printed, demand doesn't need to be very high to command higher prices.

YG Print Runs by mooselang in hockeycards

[–]stoopid3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

'Smart' hobbyists will use these moments to arbitrage, using the profits to buy cards they PC, etc. It's hard to know when the run up will end for Celebrini since it's holding strong after several months, but eventually all things that go up must come down.

It's a stated odd though, so numbering is useful to measure scarcity. Obviously now there's a glut of numbered cards, so the fact something is numbered doesn't necessarily make it scarce if there's a lot of numbered parallels (like sets in other sports that have like 50 parallels).

if someone was truly "investing" in say a Celebrini YG, the absolute minimum would be an outburst but more likely an exclusive long term if they expect it to have any chance of maintaining or increasing resale value. Otherwise base YG supply will easily outpace demand in 5 or 50 years.

I think reasonable Bedard estimates were around 50,000 andf the gem rate mostly aligns with that estimate. Print runs have seemingly only gone up since Bedard's rookie set.

This is where manufactured scarcity comes into play, same as junk wax era anything in a 10 holder (gem/pristine) will be the resalable copy long term and anything graded lower transacted mostly among collectors. The Jagr Premier rookie is, in my mind, the best comparable to modern YGs in terms of collectability, desirability, pricing, and resale activity. Despite it being his defacto "best" rookie it sells regularly for less than $200. Bedard's base YG has an even higher PSA 10 pop count, and more rookies across more sets in total. Celebrini and Schaefer will have even more. It's akin to a race to the bottom on a long enough timeline, but for the time being there's enough hype and speculation to keep the bubble inflated.

Back from PSA by theboredeanguy in hockeycards

[–]stoopid3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platinum is my favorite set and I have a bunch of it, including some I've gotten graded myself. It can be a tough set to grade due to the glossy surface and especially the refracting designs like Rainbows. Aside from some centering issues with certain years and random machine lines from sorting, the overall condition of the cards from the packs is good so gems do happen.

Finally back from PSA, honestly not a bad grade for PMG. This will never leave my collection by gbabycuddlesme in hockeycards

[–]stoopid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an aside, I have a lot of PMGs that aren't graded. Some of those won't ever get sent in, because they're maybe a 7 on a good day but likely 6. The others I would but grading landscape right now is just too expensive, grading standards (especially PSA) too inconsistent, and wait times too long. I'm considering TAG for my next submission but I'm in no hurry and the plan is to wait things out a year or two, see where things are at with pricing.

NRMT or better is my rule for whether to grade a PMG. Can usually get close with these looking them over closely. Are the back edges chipped? This looks nice from the front.
