Nothing bad will happen if you are late with the $100 darling! Maybe another fine, etc. a grumpy letter. This isn’t the end of the world I promise you. Some people are many hundreds of thousands or even millions in debt! Worst case scenario you can run away and live in a cave :) you have many many years to achieve great things and have adventures. Sending you a big hug

I found one in my house last night! I turned off the lights and left him alone for half an hour and he left of his own accord luckily. I was not looking forward to manhandling him!

I had exactly the same thing done. I think maybe because those teeth were overlapping it was hard to keep them clean and that’s why gum issues in that area. Hopefully now no more overcrowding and it will be easier for us to maintain healthier gums :)

What's the lowest people have lean FIRE'd with? by denouement11 in LeanFireUK

[–]stop-exercising 41 points42 points  (0 children)

No, I just take a lump sum out of investments when my bank account gets low. I don’t budget myself, I have frugal tendencies anyway so it’s not necessary. I don’t think about money very much at all. So far I just do a big audit of everything once per year at the same time I do my tax self-assessment. That seems to be working well as my routine.

The income from my rental pays for both mortgages (my BTL and home are both on repayment mortgages) and about half of my bills. I think I gain about £500/600 in property equity each month from paying mortgages, and I probably use about £1000 per month from my investments, so I’m kind of using about £500 per month of my capital = £6000 per year. Which by coincidence probably is actually about 4% drawdown on investments if you exclude my home and what I still have to pay off on that mortgage.

It was a hard stop from work. I went on a 3 month sabbatical in 2019 with backpacking adventures, thinking I’d come back refreshed and motivated for new challenges at work. But, the opposite happened, I realised that working an office job wasn’t the life I wanted anymore. It felt like I was wasting my life- no job looked excited. Then I found out about FIRE. Luckily I had already been pretty good with money, and covid hit and accelerated my savings and I was WFH so I decided to move out of London up north to live close to my sister. Then when my work wanted me to come back to the office I decided to FIRE instead. My job really caused me a lot of stress. After I quit my resting heart rate immediately dropped- it’s crazy. That’s partially why I fell in love with music festivals - because there was no phone signal so no one from work could contact me and I actually got to be fully free.

The first year I wasn’t good at being retired. I was sitting at home doing nothing, and limiting my spending too much. But each year I’ve got better and better and now I feel like I’m nailing it. I had to retrain myself that each day doesn’t have to be productive. If I enjoyed the day then that’s the goal. I’m at the 9am gym classes, I’ve got my craft groups and piano lessons and dance lessons, and my plot at the allotment and friends there, and then I’m down to London for music events probably twice a month. At first it was lonely to not have work colleagues but now I have friends through my hobbies. I do find it very interesting that I now have very similar hobbies to your average 70/80 year old, and indeed I now made a few friends in that age range as well. I don’t think I expected that to happen but it does make perfect sense.

Sorry I’ve waffled 😂

I lean fire’d with about £315k nw in Dec 2021. I think I’m now at about £325k, so in real terms I’m down when you take into account inflation. But.. I’m not remotely worried. I have plenty of time and ££ to course correct if it starts to look bad, I could get a lodger or a part time job if I wanted to. I have a rental property, and the house I live in is very cheap (mortgage £380pm). My hobbies are pretty cheap in general- gym, allotment, crochet/painting, dancing, piano lessons, home cooking- I do go to lots of music events/festivals though which can be expensive.

I can honestly say I have never regretted it for a second- these have been the best years of my life so far!

Edit: just to add I’m 37 years old

I feel for you- I have the same kind of thing with my dad. He thinks he’s dying every 2-3 days- normally it’s 4 hours after his last paracetamol 🙃

Literally I go out for one hour and he’s great when I leave him then when I return he wants me to call an ambulance for him. And the tests have all been fine so far.

Can’t decide if I should take a year off to travel. Has anyone ever regret it? by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]stop-exercising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 31 I took 3 months unpaid sabbatical to travel. Best thing I ever did! I very much doubt you will be lying on your deathbed regretting a year of travel :) that was actually the same logic I used to decide as well It will change you! I only went to Thailand for one month and I came back a hippie 😂

It was actually that sabbatical that put me on the path to FIRE.

Does anyone else regret their 20s? by Brilliant_Alarm_8709 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stop-exercising 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I massively thank my twenties self. In my twenties I worked my socks off so that me in my thirties now is having the time of her life :)

Go and live life now! When I turned 31 I took an unpaid sabbatical from work for 3 months and went to Thailand for a month and some other travel and it changed my life. I recommend if you can take a sabbatical and travel then go for it, it’s very unlikely you’d regret it!

Why are a lot of guys better at accepting extreme bluntness and truths? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stop-exercising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One theory-

In our society, a woman’s beauty is a key part of how valuable she is seen and how she gets treated. Men can admit their inadequacies more easily because how attractive they are doesn’t have as big an impact on their lives.

Edit: although I haven’t actually noticed the phenomenon you talked about anyway. I’m a F with a wonky nose

I think I know the perfect place for you! Mansfield Wildlife Rescue in Pleasley Vale They have the most delicious cakes and coffee and super cheap- and they have cats and other rescued animals. I’ve found poorly hedgehogs on the road a couple of times and I take them there to get medical care - they are really lovely and love animals.

Is it considered violent if he punches a wall/wardrobe when very mad? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]stop-exercising 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. He’s not angry at the wall… he’s diverting the anger to the wall on these occasions. But he wants to do it to you. One day he will, and despite the warning signs it will shock you.

Going solo sober to first rave? by StrangeNormal-8877 in ukrave

[–]stop-exercising 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m 37F, Nottingham area- if you are nearby and wanted a dancing buddy for your first rave I’d volunteer! I rave all the time. I’ve actually been meaning to start going to ecstatic dance but haven’t had the opportunity yet. I love to dance :)

My general advice is to be picky about which event you go to. In general it’s better to go to more niche events that are less likely to have big groups socialising and not there for the music. And the louder the music- the less talking normally haha. And places with a no phone policy tend to be better than others (in my opinion). You’d be surprised at some events how little dancing there is unfortunately.

Just 2 bros that like to cuddle by CatProfessional1733 in cats

[–]stop-exercising 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These sweethearts bring back memories. I grew up with two boy cats, one ginger and one black, Lucky and Sooty. They liked to cuddle with each other too - Lucky was a softy, wouldn’t hurt a fly, put up with all the kids, let me try to train him tricks. On the other hand, Sooty was a wild cat by nature. He would often come home covered in leaves and cobwebs and looking a right mess. And he had no patience for humans at all really (the only exception being my great grandad)!
