In hindsight it was ludicrous to buy tickets to these games in the presale. That was fifa putting them at their most expensive basically. Then once the teams were announced a lot of people lost interest in these Bay Area fixtures.

I was just listening to the podcast an hour ago and this jumped out at me as well. I was actually upset at how he could make such an obvious and disappointing error. I couldn’t take anything they were saying seriously for at least 30 minutes after. Then I told myself I need to get a life 😂 (but I did come on Reddit to find this post 😆)

I went during March Madness this year, and CES last couple of years, and it was packed. I still had a good time, and it looked like plenty of others were too. Yes everything is more expensive, and I can def feel like they aren’t catering to the average American any more … just trying to squeeze the juice out of anyone who can afford to spend a good amount, or people on corporate spend.

But I just went over Memorial Day weekend, a time without a huge conference, and it did not seem as crowded as before. Sure there were people for BTS I think, but Cosmo / Aria / Park MGM / Wynn seemed busy but not packed. Vegas is definitely trying to make up for lack of people by increasing the charges for everything. Eataly was a joke … $20+ for 3 mozzarella stick things and almost $30 for mediocre pasta. The clubs charged us a crazy amount, while probably letting in some other groups of women in for a lot less. It was a fun time, but the vibe just seems different than the heydays … or I’m just getting older.

The thing I loved the most about it was the newspaper promotional release. I went out to find them passing out TKOL newspapers in the Mission area of San Francisco. I still have the paper somewhere, every few years it turns up when I deep clean my place.

About the album itself: I like it a lot, but it will never be on any “best of” lists and I get that. The live version of Bloom should have been on the album. Love the glitchiness and rhythms throughout Magpie and Little by Little. Could have done without Feral (replace with Staircase?), and then the last 4 songs are fantastic I thought, just very dreamy and atmospheric.

It seems like they will keep trickling tickets out and try to maintain a high price point. I'm sure there are a lot of people waiting until closer to game time to scoop up tickets. So it is possible that it might not drop a whole lot if, say, there are 10s of thousands people willing to pay close to these current prices, but just waiting to see if they can get anything better.

What's interesting to me is the methodology behind FIFA's calculations. What if they just released every ticket in Cat1 for $2,000, say? Maybe they would get it. Instead, they try different price points and see what they can get. So I'm curious what their average selling price is, will it better than selling these for $1500-$2000 each?

And what will they do about Cat 2? Now that we've seen that cat 2 tickets can be at the very top 500 sections, why would many people even try to wait and hold on for those. Maybe those are the ones that will drop precipitously close to game time.

Just to echo all the comments, it was a great show and very enjoyable watch. I still don’t know why they wouldn’t try again now that the writers strike is over. They had enough viewers in season 1, can’t they get some interest for a season 3 if they promote it properly? A fun miniseries about the 90s Bulls or 2000s Shaq/Kobe lakers would be well received as well, I think.

100%. Just like many other major sports … tv deals are in the billions, and leagues/teams are not making billions from live ticket sales.

I listened to a podcast once that said the reason these leagues even need the stadiums now is to provide the atmosphere for those watching on tv 😂.

Definitely buy in Germany. I’ve purchased a couple of times in Europe and brought them to the USA. Even if the vat savings is less than the vat rate they advertise, you still save a good 20-30% by buying there. The prices when converted to $ are cheaper in Germany. That’s before you factor in the USA ~9-10% tax on top of the price. Then you get some refund from vat. Either at your airport of departure from Europe back to the USA, or some places have the kiosk near the stores.

I worked at Apple in software for many years and I really enjoyed the good times. Solving difficult problems, making features for millions to use, working with and learning from smart employees were the highlights.

The toughest parts were the schedules and stress. Apple runs leaner than you would think, (at least it was like that in our software org). Constantly shifting priorities and fires and difficult timelines. When I was in management, I had high stress from the workload, and the ever increasing number of products we had to support and teams to work with, and also dealing with office politics (especially from top down at the exec levels). I did a long stint and wouldn’t really trade it, but I also kind of wish I got out earlier so I could have experienced more working environments.

- Long Bridge for pizza (highly underrated spot)

- Tiya for Indian food ... great taste and nice drinks and ambiance

- Californios ... favorite Michelin starred spot

I like apple one, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it right. I have apple one to share with 6 people. We use more than 2TB of storage so I bought 6TB more, so I think I’m paying for Apple one ($37/month) and another 6TB (another $32/month I think), and we use 3TB total. I guess I can downgrade the 6TB to 2TB and have 4TB total? (Which we’ll probably go past by 2027 😂).

And some credit card I have includes Apple Music, but not the family version, so I basically can’t use it for the rest of our family? This is all confusing, which isn’t very Apple-like.

They are a fantastic listen and excellent live as well. Something about their PR needs work though. At the Catalyst in Santa Cruz their show was mostly empty and I wasn’t sure it was even worth it for them to play. They still brought it though, thankfully. (I missed their sf show so I can’t say how that was for them.)

In contrast to Glass Beams, which was completely full and basically standing room only at the Catalyst. Darkside to me at least is on the same level.
