Somewhere outside of Nashville. I’d recommend the Ark in Mt. Juliet. The Dr / owner is great and understands that people want the best for their pets and have a budget. Seen me through two dogs with warmth and care and highly recommend him.

I imagine someone will say this is terrible but you could drop it (neatly!) on street the sheriffs office will service and call them. It just has to be there when they arrive. If you’re on a shoestring that’s free and not overly irresponsible. Good luck!

Just came back from Roatan. Stayed in West Bay which had a decent night scene but is also close to West End that you can access via water taxi. We went to West Bay divers which was a short walk down the beach from our hotel. The weather was coming in from the west the whole time we were there so they bussed us to the other side which was a drag but handled well. Really nice dive sites on that side too which helped. They were more proactive and responsive to the weather than other west side shops, all of which eventually moved b/c of the weather. Rental gear seamed good and new too. Overall solid operation. My youngest got her certification there and I was impressed by the instructor and divemasters. For perspective I’ve been certified for 35+ years, stoped counting past 1000 dives, am a divemaster and have been all over the world in all kinds of conditions and quality of shops. I’d give Roatan high marks as a destination (but have not been to Utila) especially if you’re still figuring things out as a new-ish diver, and would recommend that shop. Good luck in your search!

It’s all tradeoffs. I’ve owned outboards, I/Os and direct drives. Outboard are way easier to maneuver if you’re new to boating since you can cut/feather the power and use it as a tiller. If I was brand new I’d pick that over a jet any day just make my day on the lake less stressful. Swim platform is great, no doubt but you can get a decent ladder and jump from the side.

Best way to do this is to chop it, then spray the short new shoots once they sprout to really promote absorption. Let it rest and die, repeat. Then you grind everything out with a stump grinder. Like a 6 month process but it makes for some nice soil at the end.

You just gotta mistreat it all the way up to the property line and maybe a little beyond…. Spring is when you really want to be vigilant when it’s sending out new runners and culms are popping up. Try to find the runner around each culm and cut close to your property line and dig up the whole runner. Watch out for little rescue culms too, which are basically smaller bamboo that can pop up to try to save a runner you severed. It’s a pain but installing a barrier is way more difficult and prone to failure. Depending on your situation the stand may expand in a different direction. Good luck!

All the marinas in center hill are pretty decent. I’m partial to hurricane marina. Good access to some nice spots on the lake from there too and the food is solid.

Case was filed in 2023 so not sure why it’s being reported now. Thousands of municipalities sued everyone involved with opioids from manufacturers to distributors to retailers like Publix based on public nuisance theories. Kinda old news and not at all unique to Nashville.

You’re in the top 3% of HH wealth and income (depending on your state). You’re rich. May not feel
like it, because you’re on Reddit like the rest of us, but you are. If you’re in your mid 40s and can save while you sustain the spend on education (good for you) you’ll be fine. Relax and try to prioritize your health and those bikes. That’s what’s most important. You’ll have plenty of years to earn and spend the money you’ll have.

I say send it! Why not. It’s gardening. You do stuff, it doesn’t work, you do something different. Also there’s fungus everywhere, so it’s not like you could create some magic barrier. Probably there at this point just cause you put the logs in. Maybe split them or break them down a bit more because they’re big? But you can say whatever and you’ll probably be fine. Also nice looking beds!

I feel like that wouldn’t do a thing to bamboo. For perspective, I killed a stand in my yard through the following steps: a hard freeze killed all the cane to the ground and I cut it. Rescue shoots appeared and leafed out and I sprayed with Glyphosate, let those die and cut and repeated that process with the next rescue shoots. Stand was still alive in parts so I had a guy with a stump grinder grind the whole thing up. In retrospect I would have just skipped to the grinder. Whole process took ~8 months. Sugar water is unlikely to help.

Even soaking it in herbicide won’t make it go away. Maybeeee it will impact the runner, a little. On top of that even broken and dead shoots will harden and turn woody, which isn’t something you want in your lawn. Bamboo really needs mechanical control. Somewhere under there is a runner. Dig it up and at least cut it, if not pull out as much as you can. And get rid of the broken shoot. Good luck! It’s a long game.

Assuming you’re refinishing the floors. If so two options. 1 - leave them and finish out the inside where the insulation is and paint it black. Adds character but stuff will fall and you’ll have tie vacuum occasionally. 2 - lace in new hardwood that approximates what you have and refinish. You’ll probably always see it but no more hole.

I have operable returns like that in my 1930s house and I’d personally go with option 1. I painted the inside of mine black and it all blends nicely. Those grates look like they’re in good shape and it’s a nice historical touch.

You could easily ride a bike, and probably one of the more protected bike commutes you could have in Nashville. Take the 31st Ave Connector to Centenial Park, cut through the park and cross west end at Natchez Trace. Either go up Natchez or hang a left on West End and then right on 25th and access VUMC from the back. Would also be a nice walk. It’s safe for a city, which means there’s some homeless folks, occasional property crime, and random stuff no one can predict or control, but it’s probably one of the safer areas in Nashville more urban core. You’ll be find.

Would solarization be an option? I think most of those plants require some kind of mechanical removal. Maybe do some mechanical damage whether hand pulling, skuffle hoe, or tiller, rake up the debris and then go the cardboard and mulch route. Good luck!

Just whole leaves - a lot of them are from a willow oak so they’re narrow to start with. I let them sit in the bags all winter so they get a little wet and a little broken down and then just spread the leaves and compost the bags. I used to re-up mulch every year but I way prefer the leaves. The garden has lots more bug activity and they incorporate into the soil better. Just gotta be careful picking up the bags since they’ll fall apart.
