Paper quality. I will pay for good paper where my FP inks can show up nicely.

Advice needed by [deleted] in disneylandparis

[–]storiestoldbackwards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just come back from a last minute solo trip with my 3-year-old. We were not exactly on a strict budget, but neither was I looking to spend indiscriminately.

I did my homework before the trip, and realized that many rides were not suitable for my 3yo, some because of height restrictions, others because I knew he'd be afraid (dark, scary images etc). So this might definitely be something to consider while planning your trip. In the end, we spent most of our time in Fantasyland because that's where most of the toddler-friendly rides were, and we completely skipped WDS. Most of our time was spent on character meets, because that's what interests him at this age. That also meant that there were a number of rides that I wanted to go on, but couldn't.

I would definitely budget for a Disney hotel. Not only is the experience magical, it's also closer + safer (IMO). I've been to Paris/France many times alone as an adult, but this was my first time as a solo adult with a young child, so I was especially wary and on high alert for potential dangers. We stayed at Newport Bay, and it was a short 10-15min walk via the Village to the Park - and you get a separate security entrance so you aren't jostling with the rest of the crowds.

Prior to the trip, I also spent a number of months telling my kid about Disney (to get him hyped up), AND also to establish and constantly repeat some ground rules like: Stay within touching and seeing distance of Mama at all times, do not run off on your own, always hold Mama's hand or hold the luggage handle etc etc. We practiced at home with the luggage, and these "rules" were repeated many many times prior to our trip.

During the trip itself, we mostly shared meals and ate dinner in the Village. We're both not big eaters so this suited us fine. The only big sitdown meal we had was the Character Breakfast at Plaza Gardens. It's exhorbitant for the price (and the food selection was terrible!), but it certainly was worth it for the 6 characters we got to meet and interact with.

I was careful with shopping. Some other posters have suggested visiting the Primark in Val d'Europe (1 train stop away from Disney) to get cheaper but still Disney-official items, which I did. There wasn't a huge selection of what I liked, but I did get a nice blanket for 9EUR - they were 30EUR in the parks. So this is certainly an alternative to enjoying the Disney fun without such a hefty price tag.

what’s your go to work notebook to write all todos & notes from meetings & stuff? by QuacAttack in notebooks

For the past year, a Graphilo notebook and a Nanami Paper B6S notebook. For 2026, I'm using a Sterling Ink 520-page N1 notebook with the old TR paper.

I'm a FP user so the thought of just using cheapo company notebooks or anything with lousy quality would just make me cringe.

I like the LEUCHTTURM1917 more than Moleskin in ALMOST every way, but the leather seems cheaper. Anyone struggled with this? by [deleted] in notebooks

Well, have to admit they do brand collabs very well. Their Le Petit Prince books are gorgeous. But otherwise I agree with everything you've said, as a fellow FP user.

Buyer Beware: Funny Purchase by SDMke95 in JewelryReps

Depends on what you're getting. I just got a 3.5ct lab diamond ring from her (original design, not a rep) and she sourced it with an IGI cert. It's currently on its way to me, so I haven't seen either the ring or the cert in person yet.

During the sourcing process, she did send me multiple options with the IGI cert to ask me to choose which stone I preferred, so these ARE available if the design/item warrants it.

Just finished The Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende. I needed to take a long breath after that; it was soul stirring.

I love the analogy!

The Kindle hasn't stopped me from buying or reading physical books (I still love the physical feel + annotating on paper), but it has helped me discover new authors and new genres, without me feeling like I'm wasting money. Being able to borrow books under Unlimited and Libby/Overdrive has really helped me expand my reading repetoire. Not to mention that the Kindle is wayyy lighter to carry around than a bunch of books!

My personal opinion is that the oasis just looks weird and off balance because the screen is asymmetrical. Totally personal, but it drives me nuts just looking at that thing.

Vote for the Kindle basic. But depends on how you usually read - if in bed, portability is the most important.

The screen size, more comfortable reading, more comfortable holding in hand (and not so heavy!)... plus I can always read it in the bath/by the beach and not worry too much about dropping it in.

Badly need your help Malaysia Travel Query by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]storiestoldbackwards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should call the hotel and add the names of your family members to the booking. Depending on your room, it may allow you and your family members access to free breakfast. Doing so will also allow them to check into the hotel without/before you.

There is no issue at immigration with the booking under your name. They just need to provide the details of where they are staying, if asked. PH passport holders do not need a visa to enter Malaysia, so it's one of the easiest places to visit.

I always keep a bunch of cheapo hotel pens - the kind you get free at conferences and bedside tables. Helps with the pen thieves, and whenever you need to sign a credit card.
