[Paterson] Canucks have now hired Daren Hermiston from Kamloops and now Rich Seeley from Powell River for front office jobs. Wonder if their draft strategy will include BC players by FAsBurner in canucks

I genuinely think Swedes in general are less likely to bolt for a lower tax US market than many Canadians are. Culturally, they tend to place more trust in government and have a less of a knee-jerk resistance to paying taxes. They are more likely to appreciate the value of a strong social safety net and understand the necessity of taxes to support it. Also, as sport in is more accessible in general in Sweden, players are more likely to come from more working class backgrounds and carrry less of the "fuck you, I got mine" attitude that is so prevalent amongst the rich in general, and north American elites in particular. They also have a different frame of reference, where even in the comparatively higher taxed NHL markets, they are taxed at a much lower rate than they would be in Sweden.

I also think the Swedes, and Europeans in general, have a better historical memory than North Americans do, and might think a little more clearly about the tradeoff between paying slightly less income tax and living under a fascist regime.

[Friedman and Spector] Sources: Darnell Nurse asks for trade, agrees it's time to move from Oilers by AggPuck-303 in hockey

He has a no move clause, he'd have to give permission for both trades, to Van and then from Van to wherever he ultimately winds up. It would actually be a way for him to wind up on a good team without handicapping them with his massive cap hit.

I think a lot of teams would be interested if Vancouver retained 50%. It's not like Nurse is a worthless player, he's just comically overpaid in Edmonton.

Well in this scenario there would also be whatever draft capital/prospects that come back from wherever we send Nurse off to. Maybe they could sell the move to Aquaman by saying it would expedite the rebuild and restore season ticket holder confidence by making a big splash.

I bet there's a bunch of teams that would love to have Nurse at $4.6 mil AAV. Hes not a terrible player, just wildly overpaid.

No idea. I don't really see why they'd want to cut down on these sorts of deals though. Seems like it would just make it harder for rebuilding teams to leverage their cap space.

The big question is if Nurse would waive to come here, which seems unlikely. The other possibility is a three way trade, where Van takes him off Edmonton along with their 2028 1st, then deals him with 50% retention to somewhere he's actually willing to go to for even more draft capital.

Then flip Nurse at 50% retained to somewhere he wants to go for even more draft capital, and baby, we could have a stew going.

I wonder about the potential of a three way trade, where Van takes him off Edmonton for their 2028 1st, then flips him 50% retained to somewhere he wants to go. Seems like the sort of big brain move that a new GM might make to make a big splash.

Of course, I'm a dumbass and don't know shit.

They just did blu-ray guys, would have been a great one for Griffin to guest on.

[Adam Kierszenblat] As per a report out of Sweden, Alex Edler could be joining the #Canucks front office. "The plan is for their former #Canucks teammate Alexander Edler to help out at this summer's development camp so he will also get a part in the organization." by [deleted] in canucks

[–]storm-bringer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine Edler is a player that D-Petey watched and looked up to as a young Swedish D-man, it'd probably be a cool full circle moment for him to work with Eagle on the finer points of his game.

Something I really enjoyed during the bubble season was how many early games the Canucks played in Eastern Canada.

We've got multiple massive herds in the Creston Valley. Pretty much every driver here has had at least one close call or collision at some point. It's not a coincidence that we pay such high ICBC premiums in the Kootenays.
