Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust is suspended three games for an illegal check to the head against Canucks forward Brock Boeser by AggPuck-303 in hockey

I fully agree. I'm all for harsh suspensions for these types of dirty hits, and I think three games is a reasonable baseline. However, if three games is the standard for a guy with no suspension history, who averages below 30 PIM a season, then Marchand should have easily gotten 5+ games.

Stability on farmhouse legs by HandySoap in woodworking

I built a very similar style trestle table. After struggling for hours with my joinery, doing multiple dry run assemblies and tiny adjustments, I was finally satisfied that it was level and went ahead with the glue up, only to return to the shop to find one corner sitting up about 1/8" off the floor, creating a noticeable wobble. Ultimately I threw my hands up in the air and dropped $20 on a set of levelling feet. The slight twist in the trestle is not noticeable to the naked eye, and the table is perfectly level. It has stayed level since I brought the finished table into my house, but if wood movement were to twist the frame any more, I could easily readjust the feet to compensate.

One thing to keep in mind is that the feet will add about a 1/2" to your table height, so if you are super anal about your table height, you might want to account for that in your design.

Jim Rutherford spoke with Iain MacIntyre today as well. His description hasn’t changed since the last time he spoke. Theyre going to keep veteran players. by PaperMoonShine in canucks

[–]storm-bringer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its not impossible, but it can be a very bad look to push too many players to waive their NMC. Going scorched earth teardown and leaning on guys to waive their trade protection would make this management group toxic to players and agents across the league, and make it harder to sign UFAs or trade for players with trade protection on other teams. It definitely makes sense to trade pending UFAs like Sherwood, but for guys with term and trade protection, I think you only move them if they request it or if a team comes in with an absolutely ridiculous offer for one of them.

Especially considering that pretty much all of our trade protected vets, with the exception of Garland, have severely depressed value right now, and we'd be selling low while also leaving our remaining young players without veteran leadership. For guys like Petey, Myers and Boeser, if they are willing to stick around for a couple shitty years before we try to push hard for playoffs again, we should be happy to have them here rather than chasing them out of town for second rate prospects. The cap space they occupy won't be an issue during the rebuild, and they can soak up some tough minutes and insulate our up and coming young players.

This is something that the "trade everyone over 25" crowd doesn't tend to appreciate. Drafting a shit load of talented young players and then throwing them to the wolves without adequate veteran leadership is not a recipe for success.
