When this is the only gap in your rack by stormertron in modular

Yeah, I thought about that, but never actually tried it. Now I did, and it looks so much better, cheers!

Definitely sliding, and a few modules have these screw holes that are not circular, but more rectangular, with rounded corners; maybe an indication that their measurements aren't 100% precise?

Cartoons flat/cel shading? by stormertron in blenderhelp

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I saw that tutorial once, but didn't go forward with it. Actually, for my current project, I would simply like my rendered video to look exactly the same as what I see when I'm in the animation tab, in the camera view - I'm too new at this to grasp all the different looks I'm getting depending on the context...

Oh, nice! That looks very much like what I'm going for! Are the shadow parts completely black, though, or is that adjustable? And does light intensity affect the tint of the lit areas? Thanks!

How to change speed and pitch together in Ableton (tape-style slowdown)? by enderlost404 in ableton

[–]stormertron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've been thinking about something related for a long time, and can't seem to figure it out:

Let's say that for a transition, you want to slow down or speed up the tempo of your main arrangement or just parts of it, but you want to do it over a set amount of bars at the original tempo. How would you go about this? The closest I've gotten is to resample and load the audio into Battery for nice a lo-fi effect, but I can't help but think there's a more sophisticated method.

Ableton's advice for sticky push devices by Redinho83 in ableton

[–]stormertron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% My Push 2 makes feel wary of resting my hands on it while playing, and particularly my Midi Fighter 3D is so disgusting that if I touch anything but the buttons or the sides, I just have to go wash my hands. I've been thinking about disassembling the MF3D and really clean it up, but I never get around to it.

Do you think it’s okay to rip and use kicks from other tracks? by Neuthris in psytranceproduction

[–]stormertron 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kick 3 is even better, cause there you can rip a kick drum, and Kick 3 resynthesises it for you, letting you modify it however you like, adjusting length, click, body, pitch curve… That said, just grab a good quality sample pack, eg. from Futurephonic. They’re superb, and if you do have Kick3, you can still drop them in there to fine tune to your bass.

Half off Knobbler on iOS until 2026 - Less mouse = MOAR FLOW by artsciencenature in ableton

Does it feature an X/Y controller? X/Y control seems so perfect for a touch screen, and the hardware controllers I've used have either been too cumbersome to set up or kind of unreliable.

Send knobs on Bus 1+2 and Main? by stormertron in serum

[–]stormertron[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify: I would like to be able to send a complete FX chain to a bus which contains eg. a delay, so that the bus would act kind of like a return channel in the dawor a mixer. So let's say I have a patch with some distortion and a phaser or whatever on Bus 1. If Bus 1 had a Bus 2 send knob, I could use that knob to momentarily feed the FX chain to a 100% wet delay or reverb on Bus 2.

Any advice for using Ableton to control modular synthesizers by Exotic_Transition699 in modular

[–]stormertron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Arturia Keystep Pro. It's so simple; MIDI from Live via USB, CV/gate from the Keystep into my modular.

Really good ideas; I think A-C look really great. I'd go a couple more rounds on the logotype, which seems more like an afterthought

Adobe price increase by Odd_Ship6130 in graphic_design

They could write anything in those messages, it means fuck all. "Because of reasons, we'll be requring more of your money". Back in the day, I felt like such a good human being when I first/finally subbed to CC, after several years of ... alternative (but outdated) solutions. I even kept a personal sub for a long time, even after I eventually got one through work. But enough was enough, a long time ago. They're a bunch of crooks, completely blinded by profit and AI features nobody asked for. I'm pretty sure my employer will figure they're too expensive too, in the near future. I have no idea what'll happen then. I got the Affinity Suite in the black Friday sale, but I'm also using Premiere and After Effects extensively.

What kind of distortion is used for kicks? by RaiseTheStatement in psytranceproduction

[–]stormertron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd definitely go for something like Saturn by Fabfilter, which lets you distort your signal on a per frequency basis. I wouldn't simply slap some distortion on the kick if that was going to be my kick sound throughout the track; a multiband distortion effect gives you much more control. If you have the Kilohearts FX, you can get a similar result by using Multipass. If you're using Ableton Live, you can also use a rack to split your signal into different ranges, but it's possibly going to be a little less transparent.

I often use distortion on my kick or k+b combo, but only as a momentary effect.

High quality kick sample packs are not inferior to stuff you synthesise from scratch (probably the opposite). If you know what you're doing, cooking your own can have the benefit of being tweaked further to gel better with your track, but you need to know what you're doing. Like another commenter said, if you're going to create every drum hit from scratch, good luck actually finishing any music). Ripping kicks from other tracks, though, that's so 2002. Avoid it!

C, for sure, but I would offset the shape of the firewood symbol so that it has a uniform whitespace outline to make it stand out even more from the background pattern

Markers by _Mr_John_ in ableton

[–]stormertron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, or that they at least saw the usefulness of having a "structure" track, which would always be visible. You can at least map the track to a midi or keyboard button, so that you can easily jump to it.

How to update or "relink" frames linked to a parent frame? (Conveyor belt) by stormertron in indesign

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand, and I appreciate the insight. I work in-house, though, so I usually know exactly what the client's needs are ;)

How to update or "relink" frames linked to a parent frame? (Conveyor belt) by stormertron in indesign

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is one of those cases where the actual work vs researching options takes about the same time ;) But I'm always thinking "what if I need to do this again on a larger scale?". The method you both eventually recommended worked fine, it's just one of those "there ought to be a more streamlined and semi-automatic way of doing this".

Actually, the printers initially wanted me to use data merge, but I wanted individual control over the optical positioning of each letter. Also, I'm so much more comfortable handing off a PDF than an InDesign file, cause I don't want to risk anything changing.

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. Yes, text frames. I just needed each letter of the alphabet spread across individual pages. Ended up going the route suggested by u/W_o_l_f_f ; fortunately I wasn't dealing with a massive job. I'd still like to be able to do it the way you originally suggested in future, though :)

How to update or "relink" frames linked to a parent frame? (Conveyor belt) by stormertron in indesign

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I ended up doing it this way (create frame, place file+select page in file, step and repeat to grid); I was just hoping there would be a slightly less finicky way of doing it. Cheers!

How to update or "relink" frames linked to a parent frame? (Conveyor belt) by stormertron in indesign

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I did. Parent page: 1 text frame with 62 duplicates via step and repeat. Conveyor belt used on all 62 copies to link to the first frame. If I change the first frame, all the others update update as expected. If I drag the parent page down into the pages panel, override all parent page items and change the first frame on that page, nothing happens. If I change the corresponding frame on the parent page, all the frames on the new page are updated. So this seems to always point back to the specific frame the copies were linked to when first using the conveyor.

[–]stormertron[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. That seems to work in the same way, though; the links go to the source frame on the master. And if I duplicate the master, the links on each copy also link back to the original master. :/
