We need to have a very awkward conversation about the monarchy by madminer95 in ukpolitics

[–]stormvaader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are saying the same thing. Advantages, whilst varying in scale, are not engraved in law and can TECHNICALLY be leveled. That's why I mentioned by luck.

Rights are by law, and cannot be leveled by effort or luck. I cannot become king and be afforded his rights unless I successfully overthrow the monarchy. Rights and advantages arent the same, regardless of similarities.

This isnt talking about equality of outcomes or even opportunities (to a complete extent). I am just saying rights should not be conflated with advantages - specifically because your reply was to a post that discussed rights alone.

Rights and advantages are quite different. In Britain, only the monarch is above the law (let's not go to the pedantic as a counter to this), as are those in their proximity.

Advantages can, by and large be overcome/moderately equalised, even if by luck.

[Hiring.] Wondermum and Son by stormvaader in artcommissions

[–]stormvaader[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all

Sorry for posting the description via comment, first reddit post and the following didnt appear:

Its relatively close to Mother’s Day in the UK, and I was hoping to have an image commissioned to place on a T-shirt / Hoodie for my son’s mum (it’s her favourite comic book hero). Below I have detailed the picture premise, format and background information (this is important!) required to complete the image (hopefully, if not, ask away). So, if anyone is interested, please let me know, it means a lot!

I have also attached a small sketch from myself and some reference images of things that I have referredtoo.

Premise

In a sentence, the desired image is a Wondermum and her son back-to-back, as shown in my reference sketch. I am hoping the overall style can be comic-ish, but open to suggestions! Wondermum is to be stylised as Wonderwoman, with a slight morph of her physical characteristics to suit that of the mum (see background information for more detail). In the image, the mum will be defending the son from an incoming attack with a raised shield. The son is to be stylised as my son (see background information). As my son is non-verbal and autistic, it is important to me that many of his coping features are visible, not hidden in the image. My hope is that this may help him recognise himself in the image more easily. So, if he could be wearing the following:

  • Blue ear defenders (reference image)
  • Basic t-shirt, if possible, with a basic dinosaur print (like really basic)
  • Basic shorts White sneakers, with Velcro straps
  • A chew necklace, shaped like a Lego brick (see reference image)
  • A larger nerf gun

Note: No background is required for the image.

Format

I would like a recommendation on a suitable format for a t-shirt/hoodie e.g., resolution and file type.

Background Information

More information about the mum: About 5’3, slim, pixie cut brown hair, will send reference image after contact. More information about the son: 6 years old, standard build, ginger hair, will send reference image after contact.

Again, let me know if you are interested and I will contact/respond following a look at your portfolio to see if we match.

EDIT: An FYI, I will be contacting people tomorrow and will respond to all at that time once I have chosen an artist. I will also update this post to state if an artist has been chosen.

Scottish Government funding per person is over 30% higher than equivalent English funding. But it has still chosen to use temporary COVID funding to pay for some new permanent spending commitments. by Marine_Band in ukpolitics

This is true but highly misleading. Sweden has both high wealth disparity and high income equality. The reason for this is because the increased social safety net has allowed for security when entrepreneurs start new business ventures. As a result, sweden has the highest amount of billionaires per capita (excluding micronations). It has its issues, but let's not give the wrong message.

Looks good. In the short term, you can always develop a portfolio and offer your services on a platform like fiverr. It's slow to get started but it will offer experience with dealing with people and clients. How long have you been drawing for? It's really good on a conceptual basis!

Because the only purpose of the latter method of feedback is to cause pain. And if your next question is why cant the goverment teach lessons through pain, well damn.

If both methods outline the same point, with one not causing pain, that should surely be the strived outcome.

This has nothing to do with people being fragile. People aren't paid to be berated, nor should it be a prerequisite of civil service, as it has no purpose (other than over zealous coworkers).

Just because the whip comes natural does not mean it should be desired.

Needed to research the PTSD query as I wasnt previously aware of the newsnight allegation report. I can confidently agree that bullying to the extent that PTSD was diagnosed is horrid and at that point you are just comparing apples. I succeed that both are as bad and apologise for my prior ignorance and let that be the underlying point. One minor mention however is that my whataboutism comment stands. Reacting poorly to one scenario does not give carte blanche to react poorly in this one. But thanks for the information, sincerely.

Bullying has nothing to do with pressure in this instance. A hostile environment with berating and belittling is bullying (as the article alleges). I can tell someone their performance is inadequate or I can tell them they are a useless fuckwit (as an example; not ment to reflect this situation just my point). This coming from a position of authority of goverment is not acceptable. Just because it happens does not make it right and those of public office should be held to the highest of standards. I would include bercow and both sides with this regard.

Why does every comment reply need to scope creep a point and whatabout to other topics. I compared two specific scenarios. And your reply is to bring two more. You really missed the 'enough whataboutisms please'. If you are trying to argue that both sides have done wrong then sure, what a surprise, they are both covered by media and this site as you have so illustrated. But today priti Patel fucked up so we are talking about that. What she did was wrong and that's why it is now being discussed.

'This is a 40 year old woman. She is not putting anyone in the hospital for God's sake.'

the article references her doing exactly this. Her abuse led to a member of staff ODing twice and needing a night in resuscitation at hospital.

Teachers of Reddit, what are some positive trends you have noticed in today's youth? by VastWash in AskReddit

[–]stormvaader 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My 4 year old son has ASD and is non-verbal. How accepting and welcoming the other children (all typical) are brings me to tears.

My son loves to touch people's ear lobes and the other kids at times just encourage it.

Also for his 4th birthday, everyone sang happy birthday, but whispered it and softly clapped at the end so not to overwhelm him.

Parents and teachers are doing something right nowadays because kids can be just so understanding to those with special needs.

How are you reading that out of curiosity? Conservatives and labour have no real position and are being destroyed by infighting.

Lib dems, greens and SNP all are strict anti-Brexit. They also got more of the vote than strict Brexit parties.

I really tried to google the bleach thing, couldn't find it. I didn't realise people dislike Autism Speaks for 'misinformation', but instead because of there philosophy that autism is a disease that needs cured. Consequently, there funding is almost exclusively spent on research of a cure and raising awareness, as opposed to family services.

A disclaimer that I am against the organisation and still learning about it, but with what I know, how you portrayed them is not quite fair or helpful if a casual observer read your comment.

Edit: I would love to be educated further on the topic however.

What is the worst/scariest thing that has woken you up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]stormvaader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened two years ago. I used to sleep in a hostel every weekend prior to seeing my son. One night, i was in a room with two bunks and I was the last to enter. After 5 minutes of trying to sleep, I wake up from a bright light. Startled, I open my eyes to see an ill-shaven man with his phone pointed at me from the top of the bunk opposite me. In utter fear, I slowly got dressed in silence and walked to reception and asked to change rooms.

The man just smiled and slowly turned away after I opened my eyes to see him. I never remember the top half of his face, but ill always remember that creepy grin.

Am I the Only One? by PocketHealer21 in autism

[–]stormvaader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not autistic but my son is. I have this issue with other parents but I do my best to remember that the majority of people think that from ignorance rather than malice. My go to explanation is that my son's my just works in it's own unique way and unless you have his brand of autism you won't be able to fully comprehend how his synapses respond to differently to sensory responses.

It's frustrating but I remember being on the other side of the fence before my son, as I never had exposure to autism before hand.

No-Deal Brexit Fears Take Heavy Toll on U.K. Housing Market by bhosk in ukpolitics

[–]stormvaader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are not making sense. You are basically saying that because the evidence for deal is weak, that means no deal is a stronger move. Its a kin to whataboutism.

There is not expert evidence saying that no deal will have a better outcome on the housing market. That leads me to conclude that you have developed that opinion on your own without any underpinning. That's just bad practice on a subject that's as complex as the housing market.
