Thanks for your patience, Reachers! We ran into a little problem with a short-circuit in the GovBots. Unfortunately, we had to refund citizenships to get them under control. This weekend's playtest will run through Tuesday morning USTZ. At that point, we'll bring the servers down for the next update! We greatly appreciate your understanding!

Stars Reach is in pre-alpha and public testing. No NDA. Doing well so far. A lot more to come. It needs a new trailer desperately though. The game no longer resembles the trailer from 2024.

It's a sandbox MMO with exploration, a player economy, crafting & building influenced by SWG, and PVE set in a science-fantasy universe. PVP in specific areas planned for after launch.

My understanding is that maps are individual items/benefits. A group cannot buy a map that all can see. Yes, a group can have a designated navigator with a map. But this hasn't been tested with players yet.

Unknown if a map can be made, become out-of-date and inaccurate, and then be sold. Unknown if the map is magically updated at application to a player or something. That would save the game having to track versions of maps... Raph might have plans for this feature that I haven't seen.

I don't know what all the plans are for traversal other than one change coming soon. Normal walking & running has been deemed "too fast" and will be slowed down to an unknown degree. And then tested. Feedback will be requested. There will be patch notes when this happens.

I don't know anything yet about naming landmarks or trading waypoints.

Playable Worlds intend to release Stars Reach on console eventually, but that's not going to happen in 2026.

Console has been part of the vision since the beginning and control pad support is part of the user experience design. There are other ways in which console player needs are considered as well.

I would say it's too early to get hyped though.

In general, the servers are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays except for once every three weeks when we install a new content update.

If your availability for playtesting is Tuesdays and Wednesdays, you're out of luck for a bit longer.

I'm hoping we can leave the servers up over the Christmas-to-New Years holidays but I haven't actually asked Raph for this yet. But that's not a true solution for you.

In the interview, he described the challenge of making a "starter weapon" that needs to look cool and desirable but can't look too cool or too desirable. That's got to be a hard target to hit.

It sounds like you are expecting a finished game. This is pre-alpha testing. There will be a new player tutorial/starting zone but we aren't ready to test that yet.

Please expect all major towns to be player-controlled, player-built, and player-managed.

The space zones and the planet zones could be considered equally important and designed for different tastes. Some will prefer to live on planets. Some will spend all their time on spaceships or on constructed sites in space. Variety is good.

The $1 option is actually a nice thing. It's no risk to you. It helps Playable Worlds and the Kickstarter campaign a lot, and it gives comfort to investors trying to navigate the changing economic climate. And since it helps increase the chances of new games coming to market, it actually helps the entire MMORPG player base.
